Almost 15 mo not walking

Hey lovely parents, sorry if this comes across as FTM neurosis (which I hope is all it is!) but my DD who’s almost 15mo still isn’t standing independently or close to walking.

Shes always been at the later end of the average scale for gross motor but she seems to be pretty behind now. She cruises and can pull to stand but just doesn’t seem bothered about progressing from there - she’s been doing these for a few months now! She can walk (albeit wobbly!) with a Walker but if we ever try to walk her with support she just lifts her legs up straight away.

Shall I be concerned or do we think this is normal?

Why is this in the parents of adult children board?!

Mummyboy1 · 18/02/2023 23:04

Definitely normal, they'll get there, some of it is just confidence. Put it this way, my nearly 14 month old won't stand at all. He doesn't weight bare on his feet and the health visitor isn't worried. If he's still the same at 18 months then she'll refer.

DS1 was 28 months when he walked properly. He'd done a few steps at 24 months and decided it wasn't for him. When he finally started walking, he never bumped into anything and was confident like he'd just been watching how to do it and waited until he knew he'd be able to do it without falling over.

One of mine didn't walk until 18 months , didn't need to as had 2 older siblings who would constantly hand him toys etc. I got them to walk by holding some chocolate buttons out of his reach and he got up and walked. True story

Hi OP,

Just to let you know we have moved this over as we thought this topic would be a better fit.

Sending you our best wishes!

DS didn't walk until 18 months and there were absolutely no concerns about him. He was an absolutely mahoosive baby, though, on 99th centile and several medical people told me larger babies often walk later as it is so much more effort to get their larger weight up on their legs. Is your DD higher up in the centiles?

DS is now a perfectly normal, VERY tall but well proportioned 21 year old lovely young man now Smile

My DS only took his first independent steps this week at the grand age of 23 months old! He was born 7 weeks early and later with all of his gross milestones as he turned into a chubster (>99th centile after starting on the 7th). It took 4 months from pulling to stand/cruising to walking on his own. We had been going to physio who said once they are cruising and walking with support it’s just a matter of time. We also got very supportive boots which helped. You’ve plenty of time OP, not all babies are walking by 1!
