Almost 15 mo not walking

Ivfgottahope · 18/02/2023 20:42

Hey lovely parents, sorry if this comes across as FTM neurosis (which I hope is all it is!) but my DD who’s almost 15mo still isn’t standing independently or close to walking.

Shes always been at the later end of the average scale for gross motor but she seems to be pretty behind now. She cruises and can pull to stand but just doesn’t seem bothered about progressing from there - she’s been doing these for a few months now! She can walk (albeit wobbly!) with a Walker but if we ever try to walk her with support she just lifts her legs up straight away.

Shall I be concerned or do we think this is normal?

Have you spoke to your HV?

DS was prem and didn’t walk until he was 18 months old. Was late sitting etc too.
(He is 7 now and you wouldn’t know it!)

SaltnPeppaPig · 18/02/2023 20:46

Totally normal. My DCs were about 19/20 months when they walked. I think it's a concern if they're not doing it by 2 so you've got plenty of time.

SaltnPeppaPig · 18/02/2023 20:47

Mine weren't prem or anything either, just lazy maybe. Totally physically normal though and very active now!

TeddyBeans · 18/02/2023 20:47

Normal. DS did the same and then suddenly got up and walked one day in the garden, no wobbling or anything. He was just over 15 months when he went and he's never looked back 😊

My nephew didn't walk til 18 months. He was an excellent talker though. They just bob along at their own pace. I wouldn't be too concerned at this stage, especially as she is weight bearing on her legs

DontMakeMeShushYou · 18/02/2023 20:50

Mine both crawled (eventually) at 12 months and walked at 16 months and 18 months respectively. I also walked at 18 months.

They're grown up now and both enjoy walking (as in hiking).

Does your DD bum-shuffle?

JJJSchmidt · 18/02/2023 20:50

I apome to my health visitor with simillar concerns. She said as long as they are able to weight bear, they are not too worried until at least 18 months. She said that either cruising, or bum shuffling are signs that they have well developed muscles and it is just that they need to learn to co-ordinate everything. It's only signs of not having the muscle tone that is worrying at this age

Mabelface · 18/02/2023 20:51

Extremely normal.

I also didn’t walk until 18 months but talked a lot. I used to tell my mum ‘why’ I wasn’t walking Confused

Is she particularly heavy or big OP? Big chunky babies walk later as more weight to move. DD was about 14mo before she walked confidently and independently, before that she cruised for over 4 months (she’s fine no conditions or anything)

RomeoOscarXrayIndigoEcho · 18/02/2023 20:54

Neither of my DC walked till then were 16 months. The day they walked was the day they slept all night for the first time.

Helenloveslee4eva · 18/02/2023 20:56

speak to HV but I had one bum shuffler walk at 15 months. One early crawler walk at 15 mo and one crawler who then ran in a high kneeling position til flippin 22mo!

all normal and the last is the most coordinated as adult

Fleur405 · 18/02/2023 20:56

This sounds totally normal. My daughter has been cruising around since November and only just started to walk a few steps with her push along walker. I think it usually takes at least 4 months from starting to cruise to waking independently.

Flittingaboutagain · 18/02/2023 20:56

Have you looked up the range for milestones? This is well within normal limits.

newforest1 · 18/02/2023 21:02

My son only walked at 15 months now he doesn't stop walking

JoeMaplin · 18/02/2023 21:15

My dd2 didn’t walk till 22 months, she was a very proficient bum shuffler. She is now 16, sporty and no physical issues at all and hitall the normal physical milestones once she started walking.

I remember taking DD2 to a private nursery who took children from 2 to look around and they asked me what was ‘wrong’ with her and said she couldn’t start till she was walking, they weren’t set up for it…..

DS2 didn’t walk till about 16 months either.

smileladiesplease · 18/02/2023 22:01

My 4

Ds1 walked 9 months ds2 14 months

Dd3/4 twins 18 months never crawled but bum shuffled

Completely normal op. They walk when they walk don't bother with HV complete waste of time

Tempone · 18/02/2023 22:04

23 months for ds2. He is now 13 and does 5 team sports!
I remember saying if he is 2 and not walking I'm going to and e and not leaving until they see him!

cestlavielife · 18/02/2023 22:04

She is not behind
She can weight bear andd cruise
She is fine
If not taken off byv24 months have community physio review her

sarahc336 · 18/02/2023 22:32

Totally fine. My dd1 was 17 months and dd2 was 14 months I think. Inwas told they do like them to walk by 18 months and if they're not they might just send them for their hips/legs to get checked but I think it's actually quite common. Dd1 literally one day just stood up and started to walk.

gogohmm · 18/02/2023 22:40

18 months is considered completely normal, nothing to be concerned about at the moment

Diversion · 18/02/2023 22:47

My son commando crawled really fast so did not bother walking till he was 15 months. 3 of my 4 children walked late, the 4th walked the day before her 1st birthday. I would not worry too much.

LifeIsHardAlways · 18/02/2023 22:53

My son stood early, but didn’t crawl till 10 months and walked at 15 months. There’s still time 😊

blebbleb · 18/02/2023 22:56

My son was 16 months when we learned to walk. He's always been a bit late on the physical milestones but very bright. No one was concerned about it though.

Louisepool · 18/02/2023 22:59

My DD didn’t start walking til she was 18 months but she made up for it with the talking 😄 my DS was 13 months so it can range massively

Cleebope2 · 18/02/2023 22:59

Normal. DS was doing a half crawl till 18 months then started walking. He isnow 24 and has a lazy and cautious nature so I reckon it was just his personality holding him back a bit.
