Hi there ,
Please help me with your advice. My ds has been sleeping properly for the last 2 years with his grobags in his cotbed. This week I moved him to a toddler bed and keeps on waking up, ussualy around 3:30 and can't go back to sleep.
I have tried the alarm clock that looks like a bunny, using a single duvet and tuck it under the bed and using the duvet clips.
Any more ideas?
Thanks

Go back to grobags? Or will he try and get out of bed in them? Dd has been fine in grobags and a toddler bed.

potxola · 24/11/2007 17:10

Hi, thanks liath.
My 3 yr old son was using the grobag size for 6 to 10 yr old and was getting uncomfortable, because he could not move much. That is why I put him in a toddler bed.

We use a thin blanket all tucked in over the top of the duvet with our 20mth old DD#2 and she seems great with that.

liath · 24/11/2007 17:14

We've recently had terrible problems with dd refusing to sleep in her bed and waking in the night so I wrapped a present, showed it to her and said she'd get it in the morning if she slept all night. It did work though there have been a few requests for presents since LOL!

potxola · 24/11/2007 17:15

That is what I am doing tonight . He will have a single duvet and a big sheet on top. All tucked in. Wish me luck.
The duvet is 4 TOG. Is it enough? Which one do you use ?

Liath that is very clever. I might try it if this carries on for long

Maybe you could try to buy some of the fleecy over-pyjamas to wear as well as some thinner ones underneath if you think that it is cold that's waking your ds up?

isaidhohoho · 24/11/2007 17:23

4 tog is a very low duvet. My nearly 3 year old has a 9 tog, pjs and a vest.

nobodysfool · 24/11/2007 17:25

have you tried the walk in sleep suits from places like mothercare. My son always had grow bags but went over to sleepsuits as he doesnt like covers over him and wanted to walk around his cotbed.

potxola · 24/11/2007 17:30

I have been using a 10.5 tog and pjs top and he has been sweating a lot during the night.I thought maybe that was why he was waking up. I will buy a 9 tog if I don't get it right with the duvet, sheet and blanket. Thanks

Do you all use a 9 tog duvet?

Do you all use a 9 tog duvet for your toddlers?
I need to buy one tomorrow. Is it the right one?.
I have a 4.5 a 10.5 and a 13.5.. but these are not suitable for this weather.
My ds has been in grobags until now, so now I am learning about togs

TBH I would try the 4.5 tog with a fleecy all inone over his pyjamas. Both my girls are cover kickers and hated grobags. I increase the layers under the fleece suit*(with feet v important )depending on how cold it is.

potxola · 24/11/2007 18:29

Bump. Just trying to get more answers

When I changed ds over from grobags to duvet I just assumed that as the grobag recommended clothing for his room temp with a 2.5tog duvet is vest and pyjamas it would then follow that vest and pyjamas with a 4.5tog duvet would be more than warm enough allowing for the fact that he probably wouldn't be as thoroughly covered. He has been fine - we moved him from cotbed and grobag to bed and duvet about 6 weeks ago. HTH.

Seona1973 · 24/11/2007 19:18

my dd (now 4) has a 10.5tog duvet in the colder weather and a 4.5tog in the warm weather. We never actually changed to the 4.5tog this year as the weather was not warm enough for long (Scotland ). She started in a 4.5tog one when she first went into a big bed at just under 2 but it was so light it kept getting kicked off and she got cold. The heavier one stays on better and she woke less in the night with it.

fizzbuzz · 24/11/2007 19:27

But a grobag has warmth underneath which is why they are a lower tog than duvets.

The layer underneath is as important as the layer on top when it comes to bedding, as you are insulated all the way round.

I would use a 10.5 which is what adults have.

TheBlonde · 24/11/2007 19:45

Mine has a 10.5 tog duvet

potxola · 24/11/2007 20:10

I can't help you enough for your comments.
Yesterday he was too hot in his room with a 10.5 duvet. He woke up covered in those tiny red spots you get when it is very hot (I have forgotten the name).
So, I have just put him to bed with a vest, pjs, his 4.5 duvet and a blanket. We will see how it goes. If it does not work I will have to buy tomorrow one duvet between 4.5 and 10.5 tog.because I need to sleep.

Seona1973 · 24/11/2007 20:16

my dd has the 10.5tog duvet but doesnt wear a vest under her pj's/nighty so doesnt get quite so hot

TheBlonde · 24/11/2007 20:39

mine just wears pjs with the 10.5 tog which he generally kicks off

potxola · 24/11/2007 22:07

Thanks girls.
This is for theblond: do you know about the duvet clips that keep the duvet in place?. They cost 7 pounds and they do work. I have tried them on my bed ad I will use them on my son's when I have the other issue sorted.

TheBlonde · 24/11/2007 22:13

Thanks for the tip
He won't even stay under the duvet when he's in bed with us so I suspect it's a lost cause
