My ds loves his breakfast and night time milk in a bottle, he's 2 in feb.

When did you stop giving them their milk bottles?

ds weaned himself off the boob at 11 months so I gave him a bottle only at night. Gave it up for a cup around 13 months.

MrsBoo · 21/11/2007 13:22

DS gave up around 2yrs i recall, DD age 4 still loves milk in her 'bobo'.
Its her comfort thing i guess - but not doing her any harm.

iwouldgoouttonight · 21/11/2007 13:22

My DS has a cup in the morning and for afternoon milk but still has a bottle at bedtime. We decided we'd wean him off when he has teeth (not sure why!) but he still hasn't got any! He's 15 months. To be honest I think we could stop the bottle but it makes him sleepy before bedtime so I like it!

CaptainUnderpants · 21/11/2007 13:23

At about a year old or may have been earlier, they still had a bottle but it was an Advent bottle which could be used with one of their spouts.

IdrisTheDragon · 21/11/2007 13:25

With DS it was definitely before 22 months as that is when DD was born and I know it was a few months before that. Maybe about 18 months?

With DD it was at nearly 2 - for some reason I felt that I wanted her to have stopped bottles by then (and also she was waking up a lot in the night, wanting to drink bottle(s) of milk) and so we went and chose some special beakers and got rid of the bottles. It was less painful than I had anticpiated, which was good.

Ds is 2 and still loves his choccy bop (cocoa & milk) before bed but won't have a bottle at any other time cos "I big boy"

MuffinMclay · 21/11/2007 13:26

12 months

Nip · 21/11/2007 13:26

i am also interested in this.... what 'cups' do you give to your lo's to drink out of?

I have no idea and no-one seems to be able to tell me.. links to a website would be good please?

TIA

CaptainUnderpants · 21/11/2007 13:32

something like this here

yogimum · 21/11/2007 13:33

Nip I just use several cups as long as they have lids. DS will drink out of anything.

Nip · 21/11/2007 13:36

oh brilliant thank you!

MuffinMclay · 21/11/2007 13:38

After much experimentation, and wasting a fortune on different types, the one ds likes best is the really cheap Tommee Tippee [sp?] ones that you get in Boots.

dd666 · 21/11/2007 13:41

dd is 18 mo and still has at least pint of milk a day she hasnt had a bottle since 6mo ish she has avent magic cup it has spout with valve on would also like her to start with proper cup (doidy) but with her having one milk at bedtime and one as soon as she wakes up bit concerned it will be a struggle as these times she will be tired

dd666 · 21/11/2007 13:43

i have used the tommee tippee cups for juice but the lid not suitable to milk as cant clean spout properly

tori32 · 21/11/2007 13:45

My dd was 12 mths for breakfast milk and 15mths for evening one. She still doesn't like milk from a cup though, so we give her weak milky decaf tea instead and yoghurt to replace milk. She is now 22mths.

She drank better from the tescos own cup without handles probably because it looks more bottle like and she had to hold it the same way iyswim.

Buda · 21/11/2007 13:47

DS had a bottle till he was over 4 then gave them to Santa. It was an Avent one and we used the green spouts by then.

bozza · 21/11/2007 13:50

12 months for both DC. Onto Avent magic cup initially with valve and then without. Were already on avent cup for meals, swapped this to ordinary spouted cups. All spouted cups ditched shortly after 2nd birthdays. If worried about spills (eg in car) used sports bottles.

stealthsquiggle · 21/11/2007 14:02

DS had bedtime milk in a bottle until he gave up having bedtime milk (2.5ish?)

I have thought about trying to get DD off hers earlier, but on reflection have decided that milk out of a bottle and water out of cups makes it easy for them to differentiate IYSWIM.

3missyshohoho · 21/11/2007 14:06

Hi,

Like many others I tried to give DD1 her milk in a beaker from age 1 and onwards but she just wasn't having it so i came to the conclusion that as long as she is having some milk it doesn't really matter what she has it it in as long as she is happy.

She is 2 now and only has her first-thing-in the-morning one.

So to try and answer your question is when you feel your ds is ready.

hayCHingleBells · 21/11/2007 14:09

I started my 2dds on the avent spouts that fit on the avent bottles. The non-spill ones instead of a teat at 4months.

They both took to these very well (after initial unsureness) and then moved from those to the toddler non spill cups from there at about 1yr.

I highly recommend those avent spouts, to be started on them too as soon as possible, as early as possible.

ScruffyTeddy · 21/11/2007 14:21

Both at about 12 months, tried earlier with dd but she was having none of it.

hayCHingleBells · 21/11/2007 14:26

this one at age 1 and a bit

this onr from age 6 months

the white ones from age 3months

Leoladyofleisure · 21/11/2007 14:32

ds1 is 2.9 and still has a (baby) bottle at bed time and in the morning. When he is tired or upset during hte day he will also ask for milk as a comforter (but unless I'm feeling really weak he doesn't get it). If we give him milk any other way he says he doesn't like milk (although does try it first).
I can't see him stopping the milk anytime soon and it doesn't bother me that much at the moment except that he drinks so much I its not good for him and I worry when and how it will end, hoping that one day he will just want to stop it himself but I'm worried he will still want a bottle of milk when he goes to school and wants to go on sleep-overs!

9mnth dts still breastfed and don't have milk in a bottle and I am absolutely not going to start it!

bigboydiditandranaway · 22/11/2007 15:08

Thanks for your messages, i'll leave things as they are.

Just did it last week! (15 months) - he took to it fine.
are the advent soft spouts easy to clean?
I havent used Advent for ages, because DS had to suck really hard to get juice out the hard spout, is the soft one easier? I use Tommee Tippee sippy cups for milk too, but he now loves to turn it over and have the milk run out which is less than ideal!
