At what age did your child know their full name?

Just wondering!

DD knows her first name, but refuses to recognise that she has two others (middle and last) - when I say to her 'your name is xxx xxx lovecat', she gives me this look like we're quite insane and says 'no mummy, I'm xxx'.

She's 2.8 Not in any way concerned about it, just wondering when they start taking that sort of info on board?

DS is 2.9 and has known it for two or three months, I think. He doesn't really grasp that he can be Firstname Lastname, though -- in his eyes he is either Firstname or Firstname Middlenames Lastname. Try to refer to him as Firstname Lastname and he corrects you and adds in the other names.

Before that, if we tried to tell him what his full name was he would laugh at us and say "no, Mummy, that's what Gran says" (MIL having already attempted to teach him).

We did used to refer to him as Firstname Middlenames Stinkybottom Lastname on occasion, though, so maybe that worked as reinforcement?

DS1 knows his and has done for about 6 months (from about the age of 3) but if asked he will say sporticus - bob the builder - Tommy Zoom - Mr Incredible - Buzz lightyear

ds is 2.7 and has started using his full name, dont think if he fully understands thou, he just likes saying it

lemonaid · 16/11/2007 16:18

DS is generally Bob the Builder if he isn't DS. At these times I am "Mummy Wendy", apparently .

My son has been going around telling people his full name since he was two. Genius child? Or bloody weirdo? You decide!

DD was 23 months when her brother was born, she learnt his full name and then hers although only to recite - don't think she fully got it..

Has just worked out mummy and daddy have full real names too, she's 3.3 now.

Atm we're working on her learning to recite her phone number and address incase she gets lost - could take some while..

I have no idea when my dd2 knew what her full name was, as she insisted on being called 'Tigger Elizabeth Star' for years!!

bigmouthstrikesagain · 16/11/2007 22:24

Ds (3.3 yrs) knows his first and last name but can't recall exactly when they clicked shortly before he turned 3 I think. He can recognise his name written down (I think) - he appears to anyway.

He will need to learn his middle name(in next 12 months)before he starts school (next year). DD is familiar with her first name as she is attempting to pronounce it now at 19m though I am a bit concerned that she thinks her name is 'NO!' as that is what I have been saying mostly in last few weeks. She has decided to be more adventurous when exploring her home environment (eating raw potatoes, sticking fingers in sockets, trying to push tv over etc.).

ChippyMinton · 16/11/2007 22:28

about 3yo, but not really understanding why IYSWIM. DD asks people what their 'Minton' name is, LOL

Nemo2007 · 16/11/2007 22:28

DS is 4.1 and has known his names for around year or so.
DD1 is 23m and knows her name and often points to pictures of herself saying her name, ds calls her dd1 xxxx so she will probably know her surname quicker than ds did.

boo64 · 17/11/2007 21:05

My friend's ds knew his entire name before 2 and it is very long - the full version of his first name has 5 syllables, his middle name at least a couple (I can't remember it) and his surname 3 so I was very impressed!!

eandh · 17/11/2007 21:10

DD1 knew her 1st name early on she has just started going on about her whole name recently (shes 3.3) probably since she started preschool and they do register and have to find their names on their chair when they go in (and her little bf winds her up a treat calling her Ellie Pippa Pippa bf finds it very amusing dd huffs about it and says my name is only Ellie (btw she only has Pippa once in her middle name her friend finds the repetition funny - bless her)

If grilled she will say my name is Ellie Pippa surname and I am 3 (apparently everyone needs to know that!)
