Has anyone else's child cruised for MONTHS before they could walk?

Okay, 4 months to be precise.

Crawling at 9 months, cruising at 11 and at 15 months still not walking.

I'm so bored of people asking about her walking...should I be getting concerned that she has been cruising for so long but hasn't walked yet (aside from taking 2 or 3 steps ONCE about 3 weeks ago)?

DD started to cruise holding hands and then furniture at 5 months. She walked on her own 5 months later at 10 months.

Feenie · 16/10/2007 20:49

Ds started cruising at 18months, and now at 22 months is STILL not walking!
GP says they don't worry till 2 years. As a previous poster said, think my ds knows this!

fibernie · 16/10/2007 20:49

DD just started walking last Friday at 21 months. She was cruising and knee walking for months and months and months before that.

IntergalacticWarlock · 16/10/2007 20:51

Both of my DSs could cruise quite efficiantly at 6 months.

DFS1 was walking at 9 months

DS2 still not walking at 13 months

boo64 · 16/10/2007 20:53

Yep and another. Ds cruised from 9 months and I kept thinking wow he'll be walking so soon but it was the day before his first birthday before he was.

He is very cautious and I guess he just wanted to feel sure he could do it without holding on!

pipsi100 · 16/10/2007 20:53

My DS1 started cruising at about 10 months and like you everyone was all like 'oh he'll be walking soo' and then 'when?' - he finally started walking at on the cusp of 16 months. Almost overnight, like he had been practicing it in his mind he went from walking about 30% of the time on a monday to nearly all the time by friday.

I like to think that they are better equiped if they walk later, not so blundering, slightly more walking with a purpose!

dd was cruising well at 7 months and has been walking and holding just my finger from 9.5 months, she is 11 months now though and still cant let go of my finger!

jackskeleton · 16/10/2007 20:59

I so know how you are feeling DS did not walk full time untill 17 months . I was sick off people looking at him like he was abnormal. Worse was he was tall and big and said his first words as a 1 year old so by the time he walked he could hold a full conversation which made the walking thing worse as people thought he was so much older. Dont be worried about it though my HV told me the most intelligent kids walk late as they are more interested in other stuff. so tell people to stick that in there pipe and smoke it (wink)

jackskeleton · 16/10/2007 21:00

i mean

CantSleepWontSleep · 16/10/2007 21:00

Yes - don't they all?! Dd crawling just before 7 months, cruising at 7.5 months, and walking just before 11 months.

boo64 · 16/10/2007 21:48

Jack - me thinks your HV was trying to make you feel better! Truth is it really isn't a reflection on intelligence either way (not that some mums of early walkers wouldn't have you think that!) I know you were joking though!

jackskeleton · 16/10/2007 21:55

Yes I know she was humouring me, but it would have been nice for the earlier poster whos friend called her non walker a Dunce to have thrown that one back in her face. Why is parenthood such a competition for some people??

artichokes · 16/10/2007 21:56

DD crawled at 7 months. Cruised at 9 months. She is now 14 months and showing no signs of walking without furniture.

hellnats · 16/10/2007 22:00

dd1 cruised from about 7- 7 1/2 months but didnt walk til 13 and a half months. Didnt crawl - just kinda shuffled along with one leg under her bum in a funny sort of way. Never pulled to standing till just before she started walking.

dd2 8 months and starting to attempt to crawl - well going backwards actually and pulling to standing but no cruising just falling back to her bum!

boo64 · 16/10/2007 22:24

Jack - I think the person making the dunce comment deserved a punch in the face! How incredibly rude for someone to say that (sorry I missed that post on here).
Yep totally agree - not sure why it is all so competitive. Reckon there are a lot of people out there with insecurities who project them onto their kids though and then become all boastful?!

omeN666 · 16/10/2007 22:30

yep
DS crawled 5mths cruised 6.5mths and walked at near 9mths
DD1 crawled 6mths, cruised 6mths walked near 13mths
DD2 crawled 5mths cruised 6.5mths and still is cruising at 9mths, will walk holding one hand and in the past week has semi attempted to step but not confident enough

edam · 16/10/2007 22:35

BB, sounds like my ds - crawling at nine or ten months, cruising by 11, then spent aaaaaages pottering about - started walking on his knees, v. odd. FINALLY walked properly at 17 months.

blazingsandals · 16/10/2007 22:39

Oh thank goodness, it's not just DD then. One year old, has been cruising since 8 months, frequently pulls my trousers down using me as ballast

babybore · 17/10/2007 08:58

Update:

Last night like Valnben suggested earlier in this thread, I tried walking behind her holding her by the waist. it worked really well and she did actually take a couple of steps. Am going to try again after work tonight.

Even if she doesn't take anymore steps, am so glad i started this thread, totally reassuring.

Ds started commando crawling (pulling him self along on his tummy) at 8 months old. He couldn't sit up propertly at this time. By 9 months he could sit up by himslef and was crawling on all fours and cruising normally. By 10 months he moved on to moving around upright but on his knees. He would just walk around but on his knees. He did this until he was 16 months old (so 8 months). Then he started to walk but would still sometimes knee walk even after that.

Lazycow · 17/10/2007 11:58

edam - finally someone else who's child knee walked for ages!!

I rememeber I was going to take ds on holiday to Italy in a mountainous area with loads of rocks and stuff outside the house in the summer. I was worried about how he would get around as walking on his knees on rocky ground while wearing shorts didn't seem a very practical option !!

Anyway he solved the problem by walking for the first time just 2 weeks before we went.

nappyaddict · 18/10/2007 09:00

we've tried the waist thing before but it didn't work for us.

mufti · 18/10/2007 09:12

same here - put my hands on his waist , he just slumps to the floor and crawls off

nappyaddict · 18/10/2007 09:29

ds does that too. he will walk but gradually each leg goes a bit further out until he's on the floor!
