ds playing with his willy all the time!

ds, 6, doesn't do it at school at least (hand down trouser style) but at home he makes free with himself.
We don't want to give him a complex but he does need to learn appropriate behaviour.
I think I made a rod for my own back by saying in the past that home was 'private' and it not being so bad but actually I don't want to see him permanently doing that!
Any advice from anyone who's had similar behaviour?

explain that is a bit like picking your nose. Not really a problem but something that other people don't necesarriy want to see.

ipanemagirl · 11/10/2007 16:24

Thanks, I'll try that!

my DS 7 is just the same. I'll be interested with the suggestions!!

ipanemagirl · 11/10/2007 16:36

My dh can be a bit heavy and have withdrawal of treats. I don't want to give him a complex! I want him to be comfortable with his body an' all. But we all have to learn don't we?
I'd like to do it warmly somehow.

We tend to ignore it as much as we can. We are very open with our bodies, but if people come round we want him to put it away!

phdlife · 11/10/2007 16:38

could you suggest it is private even within the home, eg bathroom/bedroom?

(trying hard to imagine how I will handle this myself in 5.5yrs' time - without lol at my ds!)

MorticiasMother · 11/10/2007 16:39

Good idea the picking nose one!

My ds is nearly 4 and has absolutely no interest in his willy!

3sEnough · 11/10/2007 16:39

Gently but fairly firmly (he is old enough after all) say - fine in your own room but we don't want to see it thanks.....make example of dh who I'm sure must do it too (or perhaps that's just mine!!

HappyDaddy · 11/10/2007 16:40

He's just practicing to be a PE teacher. At least he has a future career in mind.

EricL · 11/10/2007 16:41

He's just getting some practise in. He has his whole adult life of fiddling ahead of him - it's quite a challenge to get it just right and sneak a grope in when no-one is looking.

MorticiasMother · 11/10/2007 16:42

Do men bother to see if anyone's looking first? I've seen loads of men fiddling with theirs quite openly. Some are even proud to be caught having a quick fiddle!

jhyesmum · 11/10/2007 16:43

LOL eric

Mine even goes to the point of making it stand up saying 'mummy, look, he's going shopping'

MrsWeasley · 11/10/2007 16:43

I've been told it is what 6 years olds do and only to worry if they are still doing it at 16!!!!!!!!!

As you can tell we had the same situation as you. I made DS go and wash his hands everytime I caught him. He soon stopped. He is still obsessed with his willy though.

I help read in school and often whilst reading a lad will put his hands down his trousers! I have to remain ultra calm and suggest they pop to the toilet to wash their hands but most dont even do that after using he loo!!

EricL · 11/10/2007 16:46

It's the way our bodies are designed - think about it.

There is this lovely soft sack of goodies EXACTLY at the point our arms end, and on the end of the arms are some fingers that are just perfect for cupping and moving things around.

We just can't deny the perfect design. It would be a waste of the human technology we have at our disposal.

HappyDaddy · 11/10/2007 16:47

Wash his hands? Blimey, that explains all of the OCD cases in men then!

If blokes washed their hands everytime they had a fiddle or a reshuffle, we'd have to move our desks to the loos!

MorticiasMother · 11/10/2007 16:47

Give him a stress ball instead - same thing.

HappyDaddy · 11/10/2007 16:48

Exactly EricL. God made our arms that length for a purpose. He moves in mysterious ways.

Also, you ladies don't appreciate how much said appendage moves about. It's not like your boobs, happily sitting in a bra all day. Our chappies move about all the time.

MorticiasMother · 11/10/2007 16:49

cheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeese

EricL · 11/10/2007 16:50

Yes - and there is some hair and sweaty crevices to throw into the equation too don't forget.

EricL · 11/10/2007 16:50

You ladies love a bit of bell-end brie dontcha?

Admit it.

Men = cheese.

Women = Fish.

Hmmm what an odour dilemma (wink)

OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

PMSL

PeachesMcLean · 11/10/2007 16:53

So, ipanemagirl.

Inappropriate behaviour in a 6 year old is the least of your worries.

Look at what they turn into as adults!!!
