lol at barnaby

What makes you uncomfortable? The shouting or the subject matter? I cheer my son's team on the same way as I'd cheer on a Premier League team IYKWIM. Also I say "Go on a lot too. Is that bad?

PoshCod · 09/10/2007 18:34

No, but I wound up ds1 after the last sports day by telling him I'd been shouting "Come on, darling! You can do it! You're the best!'" He was mortified.

PoshCod · 09/10/2007 18:35

dh took ds1 to a rugby match this sunday. He was appalled at all the shouty parents. He said they were really agressive. One man get shouting 'get angry, get angry.'

AND they didn't just shout at their own kids. One man kept shouting at ds1 'get stuck in, come on, what are you doing?'

DS1 didn't care for it at all, but he didn't have his glasses on so he just looked about and carried on arsing around.

Anyway, dh horrified by the whole ordeal. DS1 has only been doing rugby for a couple of weeks - I can see them both fast running out of steam.

I would be too embrassed, although I have got carried away at "real" football/rugby matches.

ahundredtimes · 09/10/2007 18:41

Oh but Cali you have a banner.

I think it might be okay to shout encouraging things - but not 'get angry, get angry andrew'. That's not encouraging, that's horrid.

PoshCod · 09/10/2007 18:41

dd had her sports day last week. She said 'you musn't shout out mummy, it's not about the winning you know, we're not allowed to win.'

Also dh said ds1 was by far the worst most inexperienced player. He said he wouldn't have dared shout anything out.

ahundredtimes · 09/10/2007 18:48

But I thought your team had little pegs with dolphins on and their names. They do. You made them.

Who needs a flag when you've got your own personalised dolphin clothes peg?

PoshCod · 09/10/2007 18:49

ii know ds1 was poor too

sports day last WEEK?

OP posts:
ahundredtimes · 09/10/2007 18:51

Yes it was rained off in the summer term. Was very boring Y1 and Y2, hopping about with hoops and running races. I regretted going. Wasn't the same in October somehow.

willow · 09/10/2007 18:52

I once shouted out, "Come on Bunny!". Shortly afterwards, DS announced he didn't want to do Saturday morning football anymore. In a way I was quite relieved, as the standard fell far short of the football I pay to see on a Saturday afternoon - plus it meant we could have a lie in.

Twitsthatgobumpinthenight · 09/10/2007 18:57

don't you mean one of thise shooting sticks that you stick in the ground, and unfold the little seat?
I don't believe shouting is the done thing anymore, mine would just do the opposite anyway just like at home.

I remember my dad [head teacher of my primary school] shouting at me inorder that I would win a race so I slowed down. We didn't get the cup and he didn't speak to me for weeks.
So you see what effect shouting at your kids from the sidelines can do.
YOU MAY COST YOUR SCHOOL THE CUP.
lol

mustsleep · 09/10/2007 18:57

my son does football and one of the mums shouts in a loud shrieky voice all the way through it really gets on my nerves ecpecially when they are just at practice

and as for one of the dads they are five and the other week he ws shouting mow him down, cop him down etc inappropriate i think and trhe mum was like when her kid did something wrong like letting someone tackle him - she was tutting and going for f**ks sake and getting narky with him about it - i'm sorry they are only little isn;t it supposed to be fun?

ahundredtimes · 09/10/2007 19:02

Quite mustsleep. dh said this dad from the other rugby team came up to him and asked how they were doing, and dh said 'we're losing' and he said 'you need to win this one to stay in the festival' and dh said 'We don't need to win at all. We might just want to mess about and have some fun.'

I lolol @ cost your school the cup.
