My second daughter is 14 weeks old and doesn't 'coo' or babble. I think I've heard her coo about twice (around 10 weeks old) but she hasn't done it since. She makes an 'ah' noise but only when shes getting hungry or tired and usually she ends up crying soon after if I dont get to her quick enough.

She smiles and makes eye contact. She hasn't laughed yet. She's a very quiet baby. She has had a second hearing test (they couldnt get a reading from 1 ear after birth) so I know she hasn't got a hearing problem.

I know she's still young but when I read about milestones they all say she should be cooing or babbling.

Has anyone else had a child who didnt coo/babble at this age? And if so, when did they start?

My DS has never cood, he's 8 months old. He did shout at us in an ahhh type way when he was unhappy, made a few random noises but nothing special. At about 18 weeks he started laughing in his sleep. I so wanted ro see his eyes light up laughing awake but it took ages. Some babies are different. Now he babbles dadadabababGaga lots of different variations but thats new. My HV done her 8 month check lately and said it was normal for him to start making dofferent sounds about this age, so dont worry. Your LO will do it in her own time.

Hello, id forgotten about this post and looking back now I can see that I was worrying for no reason. She's nearly 3 years old now and is still a shy and quiet child when she's with new people but I have no worries what so ever 😊 She talks lots when she's comfortable with the people around her.
