Garden nudity!

SpawnHorcrux · 03/08/2007 10:46

DD (2.6) is currently going through a phase of wanting to be nude all the time. She's just stripped off (again) and is playing in the garden.

It would be ridiculous to insist on her getting dressed again (wouldn't it?).

As a side issue, she has also taken to prodding her fanjo. It's a bit disconcerting, but should I just let her get on with it?

Yes, and yes. All absolutely fine and lovely.

If she's prodding inside, or prodding with anything other than a finger, then I would stop it gently, explaining that she could hurt herself. Fanjos are delicate, and like to be treated gently.

witchandchips · 03/08/2007 10:52

think i spent whole summers wearing nothing but a hat when i was little. let her enjoy it.

SpawnHorcrux · 03/08/2007 10:53

lol - it does look fun.

Let her go naked.

My daughter (2.9) ran around the hotel naked on holiday - admittedly a very small, family-run hotel. No-one complained at all and she was delighted.

LizaRose · 03/08/2007 11:02

Naked trampolining is in vogue in our garden! (DS nearly 4).

witchandchips · 03/08/2007 11:05

My ds is about the same age and we had a picnic lunch at the campus of the university i work out. Took trolleys off to have wee (ds not me of course) and then got peach juice over his top. Naked toddler. He had a great time running around but i was amazed at the different responses we got. Most people laughed as they passed and said things on the lines of "wish i could do that" but quite a few were shaking their heads with shock and disapproval. - really could not see what the problem was

TheLadyEvenstar · 04/08/2007 23:34

WaC, I think the problem is we live in such a world now that people are scared to allow their dc to be nude, due to peadophiles lurking round every corner. It is just a fear so many have that anyone could be watching their child.

While I agree in the garden is ok, I wouldn't encourage nudity outside for this very reason.....but we are all different and that is what makes life so interesting.

When DS was 3 I left him running round the garden nakid with the sprinkler on.
Thought it went quiet looked out and he was gone.
He had climbed over the stairgate I had put across the back door to the garage

Climbed up onto DDs pushchair at the front of the garage
Pulled the string to the up and over door and was outside running outside starkers where all the other children were playing out!
The old bat who lives down the road came up to me a few days later and asked what DS was doing running around nakid outside.Just explained I have a houdini for a son.

macmama73 · 05/08/2007 20:05

My DCs often play in our garden in the nude, but I don't really like them running around in public places without clothes on.

It is a shame really, I wish I could be more laid back about it.

DS often escapes through the garage into our shared courtyard, just in nappy or completly nude. He was cycling around recently, only wearing his sunhat.

Lorayn · 05/08/2007 20:15

My DH is often trying to get my DS (2.9) to get dressed, but I cant see it harming anyone, so I just let it be, he also plays with his winky quite alot, and then tells me 'mummy, winky wont go down, standing up' with a confused look on his face, I try to explain, its dirty where his wee comes out and then leave it at that, and have a snigger to myself about when the time comes for me to embarrass him in front of his girlfriends what a great story it will be haha

moondog · 05/08/2007 20:17

Dunno if i would be telling my son that it is 'dirty' to handle his penis.

That isn't really the best of beginnings.

Carbonel · 05/08/2007 20:20

My two's favourite phrase at the moment is 'Let's get naked', and they spend ages running around the house and garden with little or nothing on.

I do not intend to stop them - my mother was a real prude and never let us so I have an irrational fear of being naked, wheras dh wanders around with very little on in this weather!

I would like my dc's to be as free so do not intend to tell them to stop yet

moljam · 05/08/2007 20:20

christywhisty blimey!thats amazingly clever escape!

SpawnHorcrux its fine!why do you ask?do you mind?or worried what people may think?
as for fanjo i agree with prettycandles

moljam · 05/08/2007 20:21

no dont think dirty is right word

Lorayn · 05/08/2007 20:23

I dont tell him its 'dirty' i tell him that wee is dirty and he doesnt want it on his hands.
I'm not about to give him a complex over touching himself, I was very careful over what I chose to say to him.

moondog · 05/08/2007 20:33

Well he will equate the word 'dirty' with penis handling.
Do you really think a penis is dirty?
How did you manage to conceive than???

Lorayn · 05/08/2007 20:35

No, he will equate wee with dirty, germs, in wee, being dirty. Why dont you read what I typed.

moondog · 05/08/2007 20:36

So..should grown men not handle their penises because of wee issue?
Should women not handle penises for same isuue?
I am really interested in your logic.

moondog · 05/08/2007 20:37

Wee is sterile when it comes out btw.

Marne · 05/08/2007 20:39

Dd1 went through the naked stage last summer and still preferes to be naked now.

Her fanjo is her fav toy, i do have to tell her to leeve it alone ,if i dont she will make herself sore.

Lorayn · 05/08/2007 20:40

I think that if the penis is clean, then fine, handle it! But a two year old, just toilet trained, does not have a constantly clean willy, and is alot more likely to put their fingers in their mouth after handling than a grown man!

Lorayn · 05/08/2007 20:41

wee may be sterile when it comes out, but do you want your child to put urine covered fingers in their mouth?

moondog · 05/08/2007 20:44

I've got more important things to worry about frankly.

Lostmykeys · 05/08/2007 20:45

Marne how old is your DD? Mine is 3.5 and wont leave her fanjo alone. Reassured to know that she is not the only one and hope she grows out of it before long!
