good luck xxx

twogorgeousboys · 19/09/2004 20:31

Twiglett, good luck!

Am currently considering whether to take the plunge with ds1 (3.3) re no nappy at night, but my gut instinct says wait a few more months - maybe he'll do the same and suddenly refuse a night time nappy.

Sending vast quantities of "dry night vibes"

Thunderbird1 · 19/09/2004 20:32

I'm thinking - dry desert thoughts......
camels, sand......

mckenzie · 19/09/2004 20:35

I'm sending you all my driest thoughts Twiglett. Lets hope as it was his decision you'll be okay. Fingers and toes crossed.

Chinchilla · 19/09/2004 20:46

Just to hijack your thread for a mo, can I praise to the skies my ds please. He has only been dry during the day for 3 weeks, and has had 7 dry nights in a row! He is 3y 2m. I am so pleased because he was so late to be ready for potty training that I thought he would be in a night nappy for years! He is still wearing a nappy at night, just in case though!

Good luck Twiglett! Sahara...Saraha...Sahara

unicorn · 19/09/2004 20:47

Positive (dry as toast)vibes being whizzed to your ds..!!
At least he is taking the initiative so worth some praise for that?
He will get the hang of it (when his body is sufficiently ready)... and tonight just could me the night...!!!

Angeliz · 19/09/2004 20:49

He'll be FINE!!

He'll totally suprize you and probably laigh his little head off that you doubted him!

Fingers and legs crossed!!!

Angeliz · 19/09/2004 20:49

LAUGH!!!! Why can't i spell anymore???

coppertop · 19/09/2004 21:14

Sending very dry thoughts your way, Twiglett.

That's brilliant, Chinchilla! Well done to little ds.

Dry....dry....dry...

CheekyGirl · 19/09/2004 21:26

Good luck!

This is exactly what happened with my dd age 3yrs 3mths.
The first night she did have two accidents, but it improved from there, and 3wks on she is dry 90% of the time!

poppyseed · 19/09/2004 21:55

keep him in pants.. (particularly since he requested them).. if you do put a nappy back on it will lead to more confusion I think.

collision · 19/09/2004 23:50

TBH if he hasnt ever had a dry night then I would be tempted to go and stick a nappy on him now so that he doesnt disturb everyone in the night! Sorry to be a wet blanket!!!

just give him some time to get used to it. Make sure he has access to the loo or a porry in the night. Or try waking him up for a pee when you go to bed (didn't work for us by the way - just got a very grumpy son ).

I don't find changing a wet bed too big a deal as long as there is a waterproof matress cover.

clary · 20/09/2004 09:34

yeah, i'm with throckenholt, quite relaxed abotu wet beds, both my older 2 have them now and then. In fact DD (3) has had three in the last 2 weeks but that's quite a lot for her. It's OK tho. DS was wet yesterday mornign (he's 5) so I was a bit disappointed but glad I still have the undersheet on!

Can you leave the bathroom light on so he can easily find it in the night? Also try no juice (esp Ribena) after 4pm, lots of other drinks tho; sorry if you have read that thought from me elsewhere.

Am sending you thoughts of the Gobi desert, Saudi Arabia (no rivers there IIRC) etc

MeanBean · 20/09/2004 09:41

Twiglett, I've got 4 mattress protectors, so I don't care if he wets the bed because there's always a spare one ready!

Also, I carry him out of bed just before I go, so that he can do a last night time wee wee.

If he's not ready to go without a nappy yet, is he a heavy enough sleeper to just put the nappy on once he's gone to sleep? I did that with mine all the time.

geogteach · 20/09/2004 11:50

We're going through this DS 3.5 refuses to wear a night nappy (been dry in day over a year). He is not ready but lifting him as we go to bed works about 75% of time for us. Put 2 lots of undersheets and sheet on (like a sandwich) that way if he wets in the night just wip off shhet and undersheet and there is another lot waiting underneath. DS NEVER wakes in the night to go by himself but does get up dead on 6.30 every morning and use the loo.

charliecat · 20/09/2004 12:24

Twiglett could you not lift him to the loo just the once before you go to bed? Thats what I did with my dd for the first week and then after that she just got out of bed on her own at around the same time as Id been lifting her out.

Thunderbird1 · 20/09/2004 19:20

The Pampers Bed Mats are very good on top of a matress protector as they soak up the wee & tend to keep it in one place !

Fingers crossed & more dry thoughts for tonight - go on little Twig - you can do it !!

Chinchilla · 20/09/2004 19:24

Sorry to hear it Twiglett Not nice having to get up in the middle of the night to change a bed...reminds me of the bf days!

Better luck tonight. Could you cheat and put a nappy on him whilst he's asleep, or it that not advised?

Chinchilla · 20/09/2004 19:24

Oops...meant to say 'SAHARA'

sympathies twiglett - have been through this last year with ds1. what finally clinched it was taking pj bottoms off aswell as nappies as i think in the middle of the night my ds1 just felt the elastic around his waist and relaxed and wee'd. i you think we've trained them to wee in the nappies for nearly 3 years its a tricky one for them to get there heads around. i also put nightlight and potty by the bed.
hope you get a better night tonight xx
