I never lifted any of my three during the night (the mere thought of it exhausted me!) But once they had had a few dry nights they went to bed without a nappy and I put one on just before I went to bed (they never woke up). It wasn't that they refused to go to bed with a nappy on it was more that I though they might get mixed messages and maybe confused about when it was and wasn't ok to wee. In the morning I just used to whip the nappy off before it even occurred to them that they hadn't had one on at bedtime.

If he was wet before you lifted him id try it earlier, double sheet the bed, just in case, so you can whip one set off but be left with a dry one...and reward him in the morning for his efforts, say nearly there good boy for trying.
Oh and tell him , you must wake up for a wee wee when you need one.
I lift right to loo and plonk, they were often still asleep but id say wee wee and they would!

The bed mats are much bigger than the caremats & wrap around the matress. They also seem to be a bit thicker & absorb more !
It takes time !

After all my bragging, ds woke up twice last night, asking to go to the loo. Both times he really did need to go. I suppose that it is better that he wakes up and asks to go than doing it in his nappy, but it does seem cheating. Is he really 'dry at night' if he goes to the loo during the night?

Thanks Twig...I AM proud of him, because he was late to be dry during the day, and I was getting a bit defensive, especially as he looks older than he actually is.

Hope your ds' night is a bit less 'productive' IYKWIM!

Can I sneak a link to my thread here, cos we're having probs too.

should we give up?

motherinferior · 21/09/2004 20:45

Twiggy, my dd1 whom I so proudly said was effortlessly dry for months wet the bed last night.

bundle · 22/09/2004 14:45

mi - so did our dd1, even though i asked dh to lift her he forgot (and said oh she did a big wee at about 8.30pm - to which I said that's not enough, and trotted off to bed early, leaving up to him..grr)
