i dont think mademez thought you were being offensive, it is a term everyone uses but she does have a point re the gender thing. Generally though.

It sounds like you are actively involved with trying to amuse DD, its bound to be good for the waistline chasing after her so I do think a trip out, every day, if poss is a good energy burner. playdough, my dd loves playdough.

Beauregard · 06/07/2007 21:28

Had considered the playdough but how much would a child have to eat for me to have to call for help?

mine at 23 months stills tries to eat crayons/playdough/cat biscuits etc she also tries to use scissors, sucks felt tips etc she is also happy racing around after her big sisters and generally just seems to think she is at least 3 quite possible 4 already. Borrow some older children for her to play with?

Beauregard · 06/07/2007 21:33

She likes to play with dd1 but she is now at school so isn't here much.

Agree madamez and the obvious reason that it's "more OK" for girls to act like boys than vice versa is because stereotypically male values and traits pervade society. A tomboy is therefore perceived as aspirational where a boy with apparently feminine characteristics or interests is degrading himself. Sigh. Grr. Sigh.

Oh, and get climbing!

Beauregard · 06/07/2007 22:47

Was thinking that she may enjoy a 'wankey' basket as she likes to mess with bits and bobs.
Trouble is i only know them as 'wankey 'baskets

your dd sounds just like mine who is also 18months, all she wants to do is run, climb and climb and run again. I can not play with her at all, and it makes me really sad, I have tried sitting down and trying crayons, books, building towers etc and she only lasts about 30 seconds.
All she wants to do is go out in the garden and play with mud. Whilst I think this is great I can not do that 24/7, today I ended up going to mates house as I was demented. Me too would love some advice on things to do.

TippiHedren · 06/07/2007 22:58

LoL, i read that as "TOYboy!!

Walnutshell · 06/07/2007 23:01

I have a tomboy. She's lovely.

1st birthday gift~bob the builder hat
2nd birthday gift~toy chain saw
3rd birthday gift~action man.

She could climb the biggest climbing frame at 13 months, and often did.

At 5 she discovered her amazing talent for rock climbing. She puts the adults to shame.

Just let her be what she wants to be. I'm a tomboy too. Tree climbing was my first love. I can be ladylike if I have to, but who cares, let her have fun.

Walnutshell · 07/07/2007 20:40

"I can be ladylike if I have to, but who cares, let her have fun."

Rather says it all: boy stuff = fun; lady stuff = duty.

Spare her the crap reality of being female for a few more years and indulge her. Hope it lasts...

Walnutshell · 07/07/2007 20:40

amateurarsedoctor - umm, you're not employed by the NHS one hopes.

Idreamofdaleks · 07/07/2007 20:41

go out and make a den and heat marshmallows on a campfire

play ball

Wheelybug · 07/07/2007 20:45

my dd was/is a climber - has climbed since physically able to (witnessed by her having a black eye in her christening photos where she climbed and fell), but at 2.5 she loves pink, fairies, ballet dancing, will only wear dresses (sometimes a skirt providing its floaty enough) but still loves climbing, running, slides and jumping.

Basically, I don't think it means she will be 'boy-ish' for ever and in everything just that she is probably quite physical which isn't a bad thing in my book.

ruddynorah · 07/07/2007 20:53

i've just signed mine up for gyminis and socatots to give her a bit of something else.

katelyle · 07/07/2007 21:05

Do make her a treasure asket - all babies should have on. Such fun to make as well - as I said on another thread, you'll never look at a bath plug the same way again!

Beauregard · 07/07/2007 21:07

Have started to collect a few things for the treasure basket but need to get lots more.

OP posts:
lilymolly · 07/07/2007 21:12

ok so what do we put in a wanky /treasure basket?

Beauregard · 07/07/2007 21:31

Thats what i am asking Franny on another thread.
All i know is it is things like pebbles, fir cones, cotton reels, fabric, beads etc.
