A question for people with boy babies - probably been asked before, but....

.... if a 6 month old baby is constantly fiddling with his willy when you take his nappy off, does this mean that it is irritated or itchy in some way (it looks fine) or is it just because it's there?

TIA.

The first time ds1 saw his willy, it was the first time he had ever sat up naked, and his eyes nearly bugged out of his head. He grabbed it so hard he toppled backwards.

This thread is bringing back so many memories. Love it.

Threadlice · 29/01/2008 23:33

This thread has made me remember that the hand-in-nappy fiddling always resulted in a willy positioned in such a way that the wee came flooding out of the top of the nappy.

edam · 29/01/2008 23:34

Oh, I'd forgotten all about baby boys pulling their willies. Ds used to stretch his to such ridiculous lengths it used to make my eyes water. And then twang it!

Beaus, your SIL is correct, leave well alone.

seeker · 29/01/2008 23:36

No, don't pull his foreskin back - it won't go far back yet anyway. It'll retract more as he gets older - problems with this are quite rare.

shabster · 29/01/2008 23:50

I am proud mum of 4DS!! Yes I know, greedy! Today I found out that my eldest (26) and his lovely partner are 21 weeks pregnant with - guess what - a little BOY!! Yeah! All my lot have messed with their Todgers (great Lancashire word) - absolutley normal. My DH still does it and he really should know better x

BeausMamma · 06/02/2008 20:08

Thanks Edam, I'll leave DS's bits and pieces well alone in that case. Will a day ever come where I will need to pull back to clean, or will he just learn to do it himself when he's older? And if so, around what age should he be? (I think DH is worried thats all)

Thanks for all your advice ladies xxxx

the first few times DS found his dinkle he went "heeuurrghghghghggh" like a real dirty old man
the time he sat on the plughole as the bath was draining was just the same, with a "hehheh" added on the end
it's just because it's there!

Lizzylou · 06/02/2008 22:14

DS2 is a constant fiddler, as soon as the nappy is off, his hand is there and he is smiling and saying "Aaah willy"

It's because it's there...God, if I had one I'd explore too!

Olihan · 06/02/2008 22:19

Ds1's foreskin retracted properly at about 3yo. He took great delight in getting his 'purple bit' out for a while [cringe].

I make him pull it back and swill it around in the bath but I don't go near it!

purpleturtle · 06/02/2008 22:25

I've forgotten who it was that was beginning to be worried about an 11month old who doesn't play with his willy, but ds1 is 5 and has never played with his very much at all. I don't think there's anything to worry about.

Ds2 on the other hand...

Exasperated · 07/02/2008 14:05

I remember my mother saying there was no point in me having bath toys as DS's willy was his favourite toy.

It's normal. My dses have never been that fussed, tug from time to time.

The first time I took ds1's nappy off to discover a boner, though, now that was distressing!!

Oh, and it's not just boys. dneice is going through a phase of always sitting with her hands in her pants, fiddling.

Peapodlovescuddles · 07/02/2008 17:01

oh god, I remember ds used to constantly fiddle with his, however his little sister alaways tried to pull it when they were in the bath (at 2 and 1 respectively) he didn't seem to mind, despite all my vaguely hysterical, no no dd, that is ds's please don't touch it... lets both keep our hands to ourselves!

Might go and remind them of this now actually...

LittleFairySmile · 07/02/2008 17:11

Mine always seems to play when he's had a really sticky, messy poo - so poo all over his hands, then clothes and whatever else he can reach. While I wipe his hands, he rolls over to smear poo all over the change mat, the rolls back in it, so all over his clothes!!

ibblewob · 07/02/2008 17:23

I have a massive fiddler! (Sounds good doesn't it.) Think it's my fault as let him run around in the summer for ages with no pants on (potty training), and he really started going for it then. Re the foreskin thing - mine (2.3) has played with his so much that the skin is now back by itself - he says "it's in its blanket now, and it's getting up now!"
