It's catching me unawares and I need to get myself sorted...
he is 9.5 and last night I think I may have 'interrupted' him having a special private 'moment'....wah! I want my baby back
He knows about sex and babies (i have always answered honestly when he asked specific questions) but I have been burying my head a little in the sand about puberty etc. Where do I start? Books which might help me/him? Should dad be having these convos or is it ok for me to do them?

Also, my younger ds (6) isn't ready for a lot of this stuff but ds2 delights in sharing his superior knowledge of everything. I don't want my 6-yr-old to be the one who tells them all in class about where babies come from.

All advice welcomed please.
It only seems two minutes since i was fretting over toddler tantrums

Yeat 8 is when most of the boys seem to stary to go through puberty. They smell quite a bit. And until they start to get a bit more interested in girls they resist encouragement to wash more

Then they go through the ghastly phase of 'The Great smell of Lynx'. During this phase, they use antiperspirant to cover up the pong, not to preent it. Horiid, and after an hour with them I need a show, let alone them.

By the 'Lynx' phase is an indication that the unsanitary phase is coming to an end. By the end of Y 9, they tend to be quite clean!

Bow chicka wow wow MB?

roisin · 15/05/2007 21:50

I've just looked at the Amazon reviews for the books recommended by Beety and Sugarfree, and both have reviews on by parents saying they are very graphic, explicit, go into lots of details about diseases and so on - and not suitable for younger children.

We've always been very open with ds1 and he's read all of Lets talk about sex .
Tonight - on a separate issue - dh checked whether ds1 understood the word 'rape', and he did

I want to get a book anyway - to mug up on my knowledge
Does anyone know them both and can say which is most suitable for a 9 yr-old?

filthymindedvixen · 16/05/2007 13:43

I snurked when i saw Amazon doing a 'why not buy them both' thing... 'Living with a Willy next to Let's Talk About Sex'

Frankly, It makes me want to flee screaming and make Papa have a quick man-o-mano chat with the young fellow about 'general beastliness and the beastly business..''

Think I'll have a look at the Usbourne one first, Roisin

I've ordered both the 'willy' books recommended on here, and they're arriving tomorrow from Amazon. I'm looking forward to educating myself, and then possibly passing them on to ds1!

I'll let you know how we get on.

Ds has asked me to buy him some Lnyx - yet another year 8 Surely there is something better than Lynx??
