I can't word it much more PC, not good at it, but don't mean to offend! Just had 2 men here, who were black, one admittidly was VERY big and DS just screamed and screamed, and when put down he ran and cuddled into me. He has never acted like that with anyone, and loves showing off with new people so much... Will he do this all the time? I don't know why he acted like that, but, we have no black friend so I guess it is the first time he has seen someone who isn't white.

Buy him a dvd of the Storymakers? All the presenters are black. It's a lovely gentle children's programme IMO, much better than most of the trash that's on offer for children.

I read a letter written to a magazine years ago about two primary school children waiting to be collected at home time as one was going with the other for tea.The fisrt boy was asking "where is your mum, is she not here yet?" The second boy said" yeah she is there, look" the first boy said" but she is brown " the second boy replied " well so am i." To which the first huffily said ," well you didn`t tell me!" I think we notice more than the kids and it was probably a large chap who is not his dad ,uncle, grandad, etc .that was scary

You've got a point claire. DS1 is Aspergers, but in the main that emphasizes a lot of things other kids just dont show. he doesn't know about skin colour at all..... for him black person means someone with balck hair, and a yellow person ahs blonde. (this has huge downsides in that he thinks any girl, for example, with long dark hair aged between 8a nd 20 is a friend of ours....). Perhaps we put too much of an adult interpretation on things?
