Bloody milestone charts! [cross]

Just made the mistake of looking at one of thos milestone charts when will I learn... DS (1 on Sunday!) is very physical, runs around, lifts heavy objects, plays peekaboo etc... but he doesn't "say" anything - at least not in recognisable words. A lot of "dada" and quite a few "yeah"s but not in a targeted way - just sounds I think. He babbles away happily most of the time.

I talk to him constantly, but haven't really done the "Cuh - cat" thing - when I try it, he goes off into peals of giggles!

So - I don;t think I should be worried, do you agree? and should I be doing anything else/differently?

Thanks in advance

you mad woman...your ds sounds like a happy fun lovely little boy. he's walking very early too.you're doing a great job.

PinkTulips · 06/04/2007 12:09

as long as he can understand you 1 is far too young to worry.

hate those charts, both mine have always been well ahead on some stuff and months behind on other things!

LittleEasterLapin · 06/04/2007 12:12

Thanks ladies

He can definitely understand me... he knows "no" when he hears it, and he knows how to ignore it too!

nappyaddict · 06/04/2007 14:51

LittleEasterLapin · 06/04/2007 14:54

Hi LL, my DS is a bit older (13 months) and doesn't say anything recognisable either. Pretty much everything is dada at the moment (especially aeroplanes ). Sometimes he says things that I think I recognise as words, but he never repeats them so it must be fluke. He talks all the time, but in German, or Swedish or some other language that is not the same as mine. Definitely like yours in that he understands a lot, ie can go and find his milk / ball / Maisy book etc when I ask him.

I read yesterday that it is six recognisable words by 18 months...

Happy birthday Mini Lapin for Sunday too .

LittleEasterLapin · 06/04/2007 15:00

Thank you .

Have just figured out that he is talking - but in Norweigan.

I knew he was G&T!

We don't do the cuh cat thing (not actually heard of that either...), but I always point out cats / dogs / aeroplanes etc to him as he gets very excited!! I usually say "look DS, cat, mieow" which has him in hysterics .

My DS also likes lifting heavy objects (and running off with them). he tried to lift a cast iron wine rack with five bottles of wine in the other day, it has since been moved out of reach. His favourite thing to move at the moment is the hoover. Strange lad.

nappyaddict · 06/04/2007 15:01

ok so i am reading a book with ds that has a picture of a cat in it. should i start saying to him look .. cuh .. cat!

seems weird to me!

LittleEasterLapin · 06/04/2007 15:02

DS got a wheelybug and keeps trying to stuff it into the washing machine!

Hehe, just saw the Norwegian thing... I am sure my DS is fluent in at least five languages, and he can interchange between them. These boys are definitely geniuses .

Mine has just woken and is SINGING in Welsh!

LittleEasterLapin · 06/04/2007 15:03

nappyaddict - that is v reassuring, I thought I had missed the memo on some special technique! My friends are clearly loons.

I found the colander in the washing machine earlier!!!

LittleEasterLapin · 06/04/2007 15:04

BigEgg - DS says "Bore da" to your DS

OP posts:
nappyaddict · 06/04/2007 15:06

well ds has just started saying dada and he is 9 months. i am not amused as his "dada" has never even met him. i know it is just a sound but still.

quite funny really as a few mums i know are like omg can you believe how advanced little johnny is. he said his first word - dada. i love saying oh, are you sure its actually a word cos ds says it all the time. its probably just a sound unless they actually say with meaning to your dp!

ha ha that gets them reaaaaaaly riled!

LittleEasterLapin · 06/04/2007 15:07

My DH LOVES it (of course) but he calls everything dada!

OP posts:
nappyaddict · 06/04/2007 15:10

ha ha you tell him its not a word if he calls it everything!! i hate smug fathers who always get dada first.

nappyaddict · 06/04/2007 15:12

p b t d k g and q are all plosives. that's why babies say this sounds first cos they are easier to say.

annoying how papa is also daddy in other languages. they always get it the best! you'd think with having to carry them for 9 months, deliver them, have flabby tummys and saggy norks that the english language could give mums a break!

PinkTulips · 06/04/2007 17:06

both mine said mama first [smug]

BigEggLittleEgg · 06/04/2007 19:48

Ds did say mama first too [smug emoticon as well], but has now dropped it in favour of dada . Little monkey.
