What time does your 6/7 month old wake from their last nap before bedtime?

ds seems to wake around 2:30pm and that is it until bed at around 6:45pm. He gets tired but there is no opportunity fo rhim to nap again before bed and as he rises early some days his early nap is early, later nap is early etc..... Wondering what yours are doing. He averages around 3hrs per day. Does that sound average?
Try to get his morning nap later so this has knock on effect of making afternoon nap later but as we have school run he invariably nods off in car....

DS (6.5m) wakes at 4.45-5pm, for bed at 8pm. If he goes to bed earlier than this he wakes up too early for us, and if he wakes from his nap before 4.45pm he is hysterical with tiredness by 8pm. If he goes to bed before 8pm, even if tired, he doesn't settle well.

cruisemum1 · 30/03/2007 17:29

that sounds about right. i just can't seem to get ds to get up later, which would make his morning nap later and so on. he really struggles for the last bit of the day but as it is dinner time, dd is in from school etc. it is a frantic time and he won't nap. hmmm - wonder what i can do?

how many naps and how long for?

OP posts:
hana · 30/03/2007 17:48

dd3 is still sleeping a lot
up at about 630
first nap is during the school run from about 830 til 930ish
second nap is about 11- 2 ish
third nap sometimes during school run again, but usually short

fourth nap is during girls tea , around 430 til about 6

bedtime is 730 ( but she is still waking up a few times during the night, she is almost 7 months old)

I love that she still sleeps so much, poor thing

cruisemum1 · 30/03/2007 19:23

hana - hi! ;how/when do you fit in feeds. Is your lunchtime nap 3 hours!!! . You lucky thing !

cruisemum1 · 30/03/2007 19:23

how od is your dd hana? My ds wakes twice nightly at least

OP posts:
hana · 30/03/2007 19:26

shes 6.5 months this week
she is sleeping now , jsut had her bath with her sisters and will sleep til about 11 -0 this is the longest stretch she usually does

I've only just started her on solids, so far it's a lunchtime 'meal'...either before or after her nap depending on where we are or where we've been. I still pretty much feed her on demand every 3 hours I suppose

hana · 30/03/2007 19:27

yes - but I have dd2 who is 2, wish she would nap at the same time in the afternoon!! haha

cruisemum1 · 30/03/2007 21:20

i have a dd too but she is 9 so at school during the day. Of course they are on Easter hols now so no peace for me either . But, I do love having her around, she is like a mini -mum! Think over the next couple of weeks I may address the nap issue. Where does your lo nap? ds never ever naps in his cot. Goes ballistic and it is not worth the heartache for him or me to get him to nap there. I put him in the buggy instead though I REAALLLY would love him to be tucked upin his cot...Oh well, another bridge to cross! n'nite

Cruise, my DD has changed her mind about napping again this week. The last couple of days she's woken at about 6.30 - 7 first nap about 10.30 for 30 mins second nap at about 2.30 for 2.5 hours (now when I say 2.5 hours, she wakes after 30 mins and will only go back to sleep if I lay with her on the spare bed. When she's asleep I'll creep away and she wakes up within 10 minutes which I keep having to repeat so she probably actually only gets about 1.5 hours really. She's also been going to bed at about 7.30 but I don't think she's tired enough because it's taken ages to settle her.

Until then she'd do an early nap at 9.30 ish for 30 mins, one at 11.30 for 30 mins and then another at about 2.30 for an hour. That would just about get her through to 7 but mostly 6.30.

Hi Cruise.

My DS2 is nearly 7.5 months. We got to a stage where he wasn't napping at all in the day, which I realised was really really bad for him and my sanity!

So I started putting him down in his cot as soon as i saw sleep signs (particular shouty sort of cry, refusal to play with any of fave toys, rubbing of eyes, yawns, that 2000 mile stare they do, you know the drill).

he now wakes at about 6.30am, goes back to bed at 9am for an hour (Shrek goes on for his 2.6 year old brother, time for my shower!), then sleeps for about 40 minutes at about 1 (the same time as his brother, bliss, my favourite time of the day ) and then again at about 4 for 30 minutes, but this nap is usually in the car. He goes to bed at 6.15pm.

We have recently done controlling crying on him to stop his 4.30am milk, which only took two mornings.

I do have to say though, that so far, he is the most malleable child...I wonder if that bodes ill for the toddler years.....

Bloss

xx

all really useful info. ds;s naps all hinge on his waking time in the morning and how many wakes durint the night. I have tried him in his cot thsi morning (first time in ages) as I would love him to sleep there in the day. I am sure it would improve the quality of his sleeps (though he does do well in his buggy) but I am concerned that the bigger he gets the less comfy it will be. I think his last nap should be later but I can't seem to crack it just yet. Mind you last night he was asleep by 7pm woke at 11 and 4 u;ntil 7 which is good for him. He is screaming now - oh well, back to the buggy I guess???
Ginger - me? obsessed with sleep??? never!!

blossom - does your lo always nap in his cot (when he naps?!). Struggling with that one here.....

my 6 month DS has a mini nap in the afternoon, usually about 4, where he drops off in his pushchair on his walk, or if we're in a cafe and I give him a blanket, kind of tuck his feet up and he'll chew it and snuggle it and drop off. I wake him after 20 mins and he's not in a bad mood, just refreshed, then he makes it through to bedtime at 7. days when he doesn't fall asleep he gets quite grouchy around teatime... so might be good to have a signal like the blanket so DC might drop off even if you're out and about. ..

IamBlossom · 31/03/2007 20:45

yes he naps in his cot during the day, unless we are out. I find that the ritual (I put him in his gro bag etc) helps him understand what I want him to do......

kbaby · 01/04/2007 11:37

Hi Cruisemum fancy meeting you again

DS is 8 months old and generally has 2 naps a day.

He wakes at 7am and naps around 9.30am for 45 mins
Then has another nap at about 3pm for another 45 mins.
He goes to bed at 8pm and is generally grumpy from around 6pm ish but a yougurt and a bath plus carrying him around keep him preoccupied until bedtime. Cant put him down and leave him during the witching hour though as he kicks off.

If hes home with me I wait for the sleepy signs and then put him in his cot and hell complain for a few minutes before dropping off. If hes with MIL she cuddles him until hes drowsy and then put him down and pat him to sleep.

If we go to playgroup he wont sleep until 11ish which at this point hes so tired hell fall asleep anywhere all on his own, this was almost unheard of a month ago.

kbaby · 01/04/2007 11:39

Forgot to tell you he still wakes at once every night and sometimes 3 times a night at least twice a week.

hana · 01/04/2007 14:59

dds always sleeps in her cot, unless it's in the buggy when we're doing the school run. She's been a great sleeper from day 1 though ( or maybe it was at about 3 months!?!) She's happy to settle herself. I've had the opposite though, and I did a form of cc when they were older. All fine sleepers now

cruisemum1 · 02/04/2007 09:05

We're a bit all over the place atm but ds normally has a nap around 3pm ish and will have a good hour and a bit.

Sometimes he has it a bit earlier and by 6pm he's really ready for bed.

my dd is 8.5 mths and she wakes up at about 7am
first nap 9-10am
2nd nap 11.45-2pm
3rd nap 4-5pm
bed 6.30/7pm

She sometimes doesn't have the 3rd nap but she is usually either really grumpy or has to go to bed at 6pm.
