DS1 is 5.5 & the past couple of times we've been out he's insisted on going to pee in the men's room, rather than my accompanying him in the ladies. The first time was a family party & the second was at a soft play centre. I mentioned it to DH last night & he thought DS1 too young. I'm going to make him use the ladies now, for a while longer, even if only to make sure he washes his hands , but what do other MNers think?

"supermarkets with the special blue lighting"

????????????????? u lost me there!

"Special blue lighting": we came across this at the Morrisons in Greenock and dh was so taken aback he asked one of the staff. it is apparently to stop people shooting up - the UV light makes it difficult for them to see veins!

ohhhhhh..thanks for the enlightenment....

Yup took me a while to figure it out but yes it is to hinder junkies finding a vain, makes pee look a weird colour too and makes your head hurt if you stay to long .

In some of the toilets in Amsterdam they have HUUUUGE fans on the ceiling - it's like a wind tunnel going in & that's to stop people trying to use the toilets for drugs.

You couldn't go in and touch up your hair and make up.

I was in a club in Dublin and one in Glasgow where there is a big scary woman who squirts hand soap at you, gives you a paper towel and have a supply of deoderants. They don't like it if you don't tip and I am sure they wouldn't tolerate drugtaking.

Truth is if all toilets still had attendents there would be less vandilism, drug taking and other shinanigans going on in loos.

Dads out with daughters ?

No way would dh take dd (8) into the men's loo. Recently she was with him at a motorway service station. He asked the cleaner who was about to go in, to make sure dd came out again . Cleaner was happy to do this; dd is sensible and remembers to wash her hands.

Also at our local cinema; dh was with ds1 and 2, and dd. He asked a mother with her own children simply to watch her exiting safely from the loos.

I would do the same for a dad out alone; watch out for the child that is. Certainly if they can't wipe their own bottoms they should be with a parent.
