How old were your children when they started watching CBBC instead of Cbeebies?

DS1(5.5) has become obsessed with CBBC (mainly ClutterNutters & MI High)& I don't mind (though it's a bit sad that he's growing up!) except that I'm sure a lot of it goes over his head. Also, DS2 is only 2.7yo & I'm worried it's not very suitable for him. I mean with CBeebies I can go into the kitchen & make the supper & not worry what they're watching. Is it fairly wholesome on CBBC? (I'm saying all this & yet I let them watch Spiderman!)

What's wrong with citv? (honest question, really don't know these channels at all, dd is 14 months old and not interested in TV yet)

dh and the girls all love Basil. he wants to get some of the old days (?mr roy?) to "share" with them

puddle · 24/01/2007 16:05

What I love about Basil is he is exactly the same as I remember when I was little.

ds is 5.5 and the last few weeks has got into cbbc - absolutely loves MI High and currently glued to Tracey Beaker.

He really went off telly since last September as there wasn't alot to interest him on Cbeebies.

Although we do watch Lazy Town every morning on TMF.

I could have written the OP - was thinking of posting the same myself! Ds1 is also 5.5 and has started watching it recently (and become a bit obsessed to the extent he doesn't want to stop watching to come to have dinner, etc).

I hate the Tracy Beaker stuff but I think it goes over his head - he doesn't realise she lives in a children's home, etc.

Have put a PIN number on it now so we can control it a bit more but it is annoying I can't just let him get on with it like I could with CBeebies....

Eldest was 6 towards end of last year and has been watching CbbC for a couple of months now -- likes Raven , Clutters Nutters , Mi High.. some of the other stuff like someone said, Tracey beaker goes over his head. His brother is 4.5 so he watches now.

Dont particulary like CITV , too many adverts .

mummydear · 24/01/2007 16:38

Forgot to add , I think we started to watch CBBC when they put Jackanory on , thats when DS got into it.

scampadoodle · 24/01/2007 16:39

yes, exactly KTP. I have to say though, I'm not exactly heartbroken at having to see less of bloody Justin & Sarah Jane...
Luckily DS2 doesn't scare easy but I think I'm going to have to monitor it more than I have been doing. I tried to get DS1 to watch Basil Brush the other day as I think it's quite funny ( ) but he wanted to watch Blue Peter!

ds (8) and dd (5) have watched it selectively since last summer (when they discovered Raven). Prior to that it was (and still is ) mainly Nick JR and maybe a year or more since CBeebies

DD was 6 when she became far too mature to watch cbeebies - its for babies! Obviosuly her 3yr brother doesn't agree.

Her favourite progs at moment are ROAR, Jungle Run (CITV 4pm - I also love it as brings back memories of Christopher Biggins from my youth!!) and Lazy Town (FTN 7am).

Have to say not too upset at no longer having to suffer big cook, little cook or Tweenies.
