oh 7swans, what did they dx him with in the end?

7swansaswimmingup · 15/12/2006 20:17

central diabetes insipidus, hormone deficiency which means his kidneys dont concentrate urine so he cant retain any water.basically what goes in comes straight back out and he is prone to dehydrate with fever or hot weather. be easier to manage when hes talking and older but a nightmare at the moment cause hes so young. waiting for a referral to london now, as local hospital paed is crap because he knows nothing about it.

that is misdee isnt it? is peter enjoying his t.v

yes its me. thats sounds really hard to deal with. so he doesnt reatin any fluids?

its really rare isnt it?

7swansaswimmingup · 15/12/2006 21:02

yes it is rare and if you imagine a hosepipe with water being poured through it,thats what hes like. colorless, odorless, copious amounts of wee!

not as bad as your hubby obviously misdee. i saw that link on the thread with the pic of peters tubes in him, not very pleasant.youre so brave.xx

I hope your little one gets seen soon what a wory for you

sorry for my post it seems really inappropriate should have realised it was for a reason

FairyTaleOfNewYork · 15/12/2006 22:28

i'm not brave, you jsut get on with it, like you do with your ds.

you ds was drinking a lot wasnt he? diodnt they try and make you cut down on his fluid intake at one point? before he was dx.

7swansaswimmingup · 15/12/2006 22:33

helenhismadwife, dont worry about it, i found it quite amusing

misdee, yes they did tell me to cut his fluid down, thank goodness i didnt! he used to drink nearon 3 litres a day and pee the same or more out! it was awful, he'd drink every hour or less 24hours a day.looking back i dont know how i kept going,no wonder ive aged over the last 2 years

FairyTaleOfNewYork · 15/12/2006 22:34

so what is his fluid intake like now? wasnt he drinking 6 pints during the night?

7swansaswimmingup · 15/12/2006 22:48

he used to drink about 2pints at night and up to 4during the day. he now drinks upto 3pints a day and unless hes feverish doesnt drink at all at night but still has a very wet nappy in the morning. and as youve seen from this thread still wees way too much so il have to keep nagging the hospital for his referral. all theyve told me is "you know how slow it is at this end (meaning my crappy local hospital)but we are on to it".

basically at the moment ds doesnt have a paediatrician.

im going to ask my gp whos brilliant to chase it up and about his echo hes meant to be having.

oh the echos were very quick and painless btw., dd3 didnt like it as the gel was cold, but overall the girls were fine with it.

FairyTaleOfNewYork · 16/12/2006 00:30

i've had an email off a cm-er, she wants to know whats happening and what info i have. i know she is probably a concerned mum, but tbh right now i am in my 'dont trust anyone mod' agan like i was after IK.

FairyTaleOfNewYork · 16/12/2006 00:30
