Sadly, it may just be. Or they may just be kidding you. We went through a sticky phase, albeit a bit later, and there were some days ds napped & others where he wouldn't. He still naps on a Saturday after swimming, cos he really needs it. He's now 3 1/4.

I dreaded it happening, but ds is now generally ok, falls asleep at night in seconds and at the weekend we really enjoy family lunchtime.

JackShit · 20/10/2014 17:46

DD dropped all hers at 18 months and didn't go back. Sorry!

ClapHandsIfYouBelieveInFatties · 21/10/2014 10:48

Both mine dropped it at 18 months. They never napped again.

Grin Sorry! That has a fatal air about it doesn't it!

"AND THEY NEVER NAPPED AGAIN!!!"

The end.

Both mine dropped their naps at 18 months. I was on my knees when pregnant with DC2, begging DC1 to nap but to no avail.

If it's any consolation they were/are both good sleeper at night. Although for a while they were both early wakers - up at 5/6 with no nap, but down at 6.30/7pm

WerewolfBarMitzvah · 21/10/2014 10:54

Well shit, this can happen?! I'm currently lamenting the drop from 2 naps to 1 - if DS stops sleeping WHEN WILL I DRINK MY TEA(and do everything else)????

ClapHandsIfYouBelieveInFatties · 21/10/2014 11:00

That's when most of us start losing our sanity. You have to place them in front of the tv to drink your tea.

ClapHandsIfYouBelieveInFatties · 21/10/2014 11:02

Seriously though....I did instigate "Quiet time" which basically meant I placed DD in her cot with a few books and quiet toys and she stayed there for half an hour while I smoked - 50 fags did the housework.

ireallydontlikemonday · 21/10/2014 13:24

Mine did this, it only lasted about a week and then they went back to naps. Thank God.

Fifibluebell · 21/10/2014 13:28

Start quite time... Where they just spend some time in their room alone not sleeping wish I had done that but I fear it's too late now!

Showy · 21/10/2014 13:29

My first dropped all naps at 12 months.

Ludways · 21/10/2014 13:33

Both of mine dropped around the same age. I preferred it so I guess I may have inadvertently encouraged it.

Nocturne123 · 21/10/2014 13:36

My 17mo dd has just dropped her naps too

HappyNap · 21/10/2014 13:53

Oh no Hmm

Fifi, how do I introduce quiet time?

The problem she's dropped the nap but falling asleep at 6 at the dinner table. And was then wide awake in the middle of the night.

What do I do now?

Maybe I should just wait it till the hour changes and then put her on a stricter routine ...

I don't know I never did it but wish I had!!

My DS stopped napping at his usual time around this age and would be falling asleep by 5 I used to keep him awake at all costs otherwise he would be up and at em until 11pm. He soon got used to being awake all day! The only time he naps now is if he is ill

HappyNap · 21/10/2014 14:36

Fifi, thanks, so what time was his bedtime when he'd dropped all naps?

OP posts:
Fifibluebell · 21/10/2014 14:53

The first week or so was probably 7 no earlier because the earlier he falls asleep the earlier he wakes but that time wasn't for very long I just moved his bath time a bit later each day a bath would usually wake him up a bit anyway and now I try to aim for story finished and leaving him in his room by 7.20 so he's asleep by half past

FoulsomeAndMaggotwise · 21/10/2014 15:58

Oh. My. God.

DS will be 18 months when the second one arrives, I've been thinking "at least he'll still be napping". Will definitely start quiet time if not.

Xmasbaby11 · 21/10/2014 16:01

Dd stopped napping around 15mo, although she sometimes napped in the car. She just didn't need it any more.

dollybird · 21/10/2014 16:02

My two both stopped napping at 21 months. You soon get used to it and the freedom to go out without having to work round naps. Worked well for me as my two are 15 mo apart so never napped at the same time anyway. They would still fall asleep in the car or maybe while watching tv, but didn't have a set nap routine after that. Although DD is now 11 and had a 2 hour nap on Sunday afternoon due to a very late sleepover the night before Grin

netguru2 · 21/10/2014 16:05

I have a six month old who genuinely does not nap. Driving me nuts.

NotMrsTumble · 21/10/2014 16:08

Just Thanksand Cake. dc1 dropped all naps at 12mos in desperation I would sometimes drive her around in the car for 30 mins to get her to go to sleep thankfully dc3 (18mos) is still a fairly reliable napper - unless he is at the childminders.

fishfingerSarnies · 21/10/2014 16:08

I'd still put to bed, give a book and toy to play quietly with say that he/she doesn't have to sleep but needs some quiet time.
my dd is two and doesn't always sleep but knows she has to have quiet time in her bed so just sings (not that quiet but doesn't involve me) plays with teddies or reads. I leave a little light on for her but it's still quite dark.

MrsAtticus · 21/10/2014 16:09

Mine dropped them by 2 years, I was a bit gutted but he made up for it by sleeping 7-7, no interruptions!

CPtart · 21/10/2014 16:15

DS1 dropped all naps around 12 months. DS2 was still going strong at 3!

Andcake · 21/10/2014 16:43

I wish my 2 year old would drop his nap - I know odd!
With a nap he is asleep by 8 but with a nap 9.30 ish and needs attention.
Problem is a few days without a nap he is frantic by 5 pm and on day 3 will wake for hours in the night!
