7 month old doing weird eye squeezing - really worried

For the past few weeks I've noticed my ds has been squinting - squeezing his eyes closed for a few seconds and then opening them again. I don't know if this is what's known as 'squinting' but that's what we call it. Sometimes it's a fluttery kind of blink, sometimes a tight one. He'll do it a few times for a while then stop. He's just been doing it again now and it's got me and DH quite concerned that there's something wrong with his sight, or maybe that he's developing a nervous reaction of some kind. Also, we've taken a fair few photos of him in the past with flash and I've noticed him squeezing his eyes closed then (can't blame him there) so we're also thinking perhaps it's a result of using too much flash...?

Please has anyone any experience of this or suggestions of why he might be doing it? Is it just a developmental thing? I'm thinking of taking him to see the health visitor tomorrow cos I'm really quite concerned.

Hi Everyone! This thread is providing me with a little comfort as this week my 7mth old has started doing the same face. Scrunching eyes and opening mouth oddly. It’s cute but very worrying as like a lot of you have mentioned it seems neurological.

I’m new to mums net so unsure how it works but would really appreciate it if any of you with videos would mind sending over so I can compare? @DadofLeo @fisil @GeoPau

I have sent my video to a Paediatrician who agrees it looks odd which has filled me with more worry.

Hi im having the same issue and my daughter is 7 month its like a delayed blinking she squints and closes her eyes longer, slower than normal and i’m so worried took her to the ER and they said its nothing but its not normal to me worried

Im new to this but was your issue resolved with your baby my daughter just turned 7 months and seemed to be doing something similar eveyone is saying its ok including ER doc but im concerned squinting started friday after flu shot and keeping her eyes clased longer than usual started yesterday

Good Morning does not have the video anymore I apologize she has stopped doing it apparently according to doc it was her testing her reflexes as well has i gave her a bath that day with aveeno soap in it and I believe it got into her eyes. Her pediatrician said and if it she blinks quicker than usual and does not follow you or anything in front of her with her eyes then its a concern

I'm so sorry I've just seen all these replies

There was another lady who posted on here but I can't see her post and her son was doing the same, she basically says it's a phase

What happened with me is that I had a video of it and I did a lot of digging (Too much ... it got a lot seeing all those poor babies) then I went to the doctor and he said it's fine and if it continues then we could send for a scan but as it's covid they weren't doing them so we have to just wait.

I started to keeping a diary of when he was doing it and for me it was a moment of him releasing oh I can do this and when he wants my attention.

He still does but when he wants it and it's not as scary as before.

After I did some investigating n I compared his actions to other videos online as well as the response I received on here , I realised it must be a his way of communicating, now he's realised I just laugh so he doesn't do it anymore.

I would say Google it and compare it good luck to all

Hey, I’ve read quite a few similar posts but I’m starting to worry a little bit. My 7 month baby girl has today started making these very odd faces screwing her face up and closing her eyes when she’s laughing or excited: just wondering if anyone else has experienced the same thing? And if it’s just gone or if I should be worried.

My 10 month old starting doing the same. Shutting both eyes for a few seconds and making a face like she is about to sneeze. Was getting scared as she kept doing it. This makes me feel a little better
