Thought this would be a fun celebratory thread. Plus was so amazed I had to share what my son did today! We were doing some drawing (rainy day activity) and my husband said can you draw four (actually no idea why he said this I must ask him). Anyway, he went right ahead and drew a curved line, then a straight one crossing it. Not really recognisable but the right idea and done woth real intention. Then he did 1. No idea where he learnt what 4 looks like, he is 22months today. I love being a parent at moments like that, development is such a joy to see. :)

Yesterday Ds gave me a nappy and pack if wipes, said 'pooed' and laid down. He's 17 months. I was ShockGrin. He's also started saying 'three, four, five'. We're still working on one and two Confused

CitrusyOne · 24/08/2013 18:05

Dd (10 months) followed me and dp out of one room and into another with her belly shuffling commando type crawling. It's the first time she hasn't just stayed there and screamed for us!

yellowsnownoteatwillyou · 24/08/2013 18:12

My 3 week old baby did a big gummy smile at me, I thought this was just my imagination, as surely they dont smile yet, but he has now done it 5 more times. All at daddy may I add Hmm

shockers · 24/08/2013 18:31

I came downstairs the morning of the day before we were going on holiday to find that DS2 had ironed all of his holiday clothes, plus half of his sister's... after he had unloaded the dishwasher and put all the pots away, made the two of them breakfast and wiped the sides down in the kitchen.

He is 13, DD is 14 with LD.

This was last week, but I was pretty touched.

BeenieBaby · 24/08/2013 18:42

Dd (10m) is starting to take her first steps, and DS (2.5) started having a conversation with the family sat next to us at lunch- asking them their names, and reeling off all of our names, and asked for edamame for dinner! He didn't speak at all till his second birthday and I was going to ask for a salt referral as he didn't even say mama or daddy. He was also very phobic of social situations and would scream if a stranger looked at him or spoke to him and has only started to come out of his shell in the past few months. I'm so proud of him. I was starting to worry that he wasn't developing normally.

Ruprekt · 24/08/2013 18:46

Ds (11y) was desperate for a certain book and was going to share the cost of it with dh.

However, after flicking thru it in the shop he decided it was inappropriate for him (naked women & demons!!!!!!!Grin) and chose something else.

Dh was well impressed. SmileSmile

DD1 who is 4 had a really shaky time at swimming last week. She had a bit of trouble with kicking and had said in the week that she didn't want to go back.

We went today and she was kicking perfectly, and was used as the example for the rest of the class which has really boosted her confidence. She also tripped in the pool and went right under, and where previously she would have cried and went to the teacher, today she just got up and carried on!

She's so scared of failure and was terrified of putting her face in the water 6 weeks ago. So proud of her!

These are all great. Can't wait for all the new milestones to come. Babies first smile is such a lovely one, laugh even better. I feel like I should remember them all clearly, but the exact incidences have faded Sad. Apart from the first roll, I remember being so excited and ringing everyone! Do others remember where you were etc for the first smile, walk etc? The swimming example is lovely, positive praise from teachers/other external adults gives such a boost I think.

I remember the first time DS said, "Mama". I cried a bit.

On another recent holiday, a lady approached me at dinner to ask if I was Ds's mum. She said she wanted to compliment me on his character, she'd been playing tennis with him and thought he was a joy Smile.

LadyLech · 25/08/2013 01:43

My 9 year old daughter was doing some tumbling at gymnastics, when she over rotated and ended up in a crumpled heap on the floor. She got up, realised her arm was at a very funny angle and so popped her dislocated elbow back into its socket. They got her ice for her arm and phoned me. Dd sat quietly, just watching until I arrived. I took her to the hospital, she had it x rayed, and sure enough it was fractured. I'm so proud of how brave she has been. She didn't cry, scream or make a fuss. In fact, she keeps saying she doesn't get why everyone else is fussing about it! She has a fantastic bruise, which is most of the length of her arm, but she's not complained about it at all (except why can't she ride her bike / go on the trampoline / climb things in the play park). I've been so proud of her bravery this week.

Growlithe · 25/08/2013 01:56

DD1 (9) is very confident on stuff like rollercoasters but DD2 (5) is very timid. The two of them have had a couple of horseriding lessons whilst we are on holiday.

DD2 has been the one who has done all the balancing/confidence building exercises to perfection without finching, where DD1 is a bit nervous.

Don't want to undermine DD1, but I was a proud of DD2 to be able to show us her 'thing'.

JollyHappyGiant · 25/08/2013 03:30

My 2 day old DD is wonderful at breastfeeding. She seems to have sussed it out immediately. I'm so proud.

2.4yo DS has been an absolute star since his sister was born. He seems really impressed with her.

Very proud of my wee family :)

GailTheGoldfish · 25/08/2013 20:33

DD is 13 months and had her one year check this week. Was very proud when the HV recorded on her notes that she has 10 recognisable words which is what they would expect of a 2 year old Smile

TheOneAndOnlyAlpha · 25/08/2013 20:38

I like this thread! So lovely.

My 23 mo surprises me everyday. But today he tucked into a corn on the cob, all sat there at the table concentrating away, and I suddenly realised I now have a boy, not a baby. Then he said, 'thank you mummy for my tea'. My heart melted.

HugAndRoll · 25/08/2013 20:41

My 16 month ds2 with severe hypermobility stood for the first time this week putting weight through his legs with a lot of support. This is such a massive step in the right direction and has meant a referral to orthotics from his Physio.

I'm so proud of him.

Wishfulmakeupping · 25/08/2013 20:43

Lovely thread :)
My 7 month dd started saying mama this week I thought I'd. Imagined it at first but then she said it another few times :) made my heart melt.

gourd · 25/08/2013 21:10

Nearly 3 YO rode the balance bike she's had for a year for first time today. She's had it ages but not shown any interest till today. She asked to ride it then she spent 2 hours riding at one park, and, after a nap, another hour in another park. Loved seeing the look on her face when she realised she can really do it and seeing her having so much fun splashing through the same puddle over and over again, picking her feet up and coasting along. Made up for my partner missing his own bike ride today. It would have been my day for a ride, but we swapped. I wouldnt have minded either though, as it was just so good to see her doing it and enjoying it so much.

Silverfox - snap. How weird. DC and a friend said they were bored so I told them to cook tea and left the house. When I came back, dinner for six of us was ready. Very impressed. (They're 11.)

froken · 26/08/2013 14:28

My 8 month old has learnt to give cuddles when asked, he launched himself at me. It is much appreciated as my grandpa died this week and poor ds has had a virus so we have been mostly having cuddles on the sofa.

lola88 · 27/08/2013 20:38

DS got on his trike today and said 'I want a push mum' he's 18 months and usually only does 2 words at a time I nearly fell off my seat it was clear as day and the first real totally connected sentence he's ever said and push is not one of his words!

RNJ3007 · 27/08/2013 20:46

My DD (4) asked me if I needed any help with baby (12 days old), so she sat on bathroom floor and cuddled him so I could shower.

This weekend, she dragged her washbin downstairs, put it in machine, added washing liquid (pump bottle for easy measures!), put it on the 'A' cycle, adjusted temperature and put it on. My jaw hit the floor. She is AMAZING!

And DS (12 days) was discharged from midwife care as he is over 6lbs now. The cluster feeds and constant hunger have been so worth it!

MissStrawberry · 27/08/2013 20:50

DD woke DS1 when a wasp went in her sleeping bag. Good because she thought of him as he is allergic and even better because he killed it.

DS1 was lovely to DD last night when she was stung twice by another wasp. He held her hand and comforted her. They fight a lot so this was massive Grin.

DS1 cuddled me earlier and said "I love you Mummy." That really was lovely.

Wishfulmakeupping · 27/08/2013 21:11

So sweet :)

beatofthedrum · 28/08/2013 06:51

My 5-year old started school last week. My shy wee girl who cried at starting nursery and used to worry about busy social situations ran off into school with her pals without a care in the world and is loving school, chatting about it constantly. The relief!!
