If I am putting make up on e.c.t I let her joinso why is she doing this? She got a bollocking tonight I have had to put her in the bath while I tidy up.The little moo then while in the bath has tipped all the bubble bath, shower gel and shampoo in the bath.

Mogwai - because my children are not simians! Grin

Twiglett · 10/06/2006 07:02

What are you trying to say Caligula?

I'm mortally offended by that

I know you have seen \link{http://www.mumsnet.com/Talk?topicid=1700&threadid=128845#2751266\the photo of my kid}

Caligula · 10/06/2006 07:24

Ha ha, missed that thread. But that's what comes to mind whenever friend calls DS or DD monkey!

Enid · 10/06/2006 08:01

4 year olds do touch things

accept it and move on

overdraft · 11/06/2006 23:18

Thanks yes I am o.k now.
Tonight we put her to bed and caught her going back into her room with a tube of toothpaste.Guess I am going to have to go with it and hope it is a thing she is going through at the moment.

Feeling alot more together today and will never post again when I feel that low..Because I called my daughter a little cow I was judged as a bad mother, vile and told to grow up Sad
I have done parenting courses, have 3 children and am a loving mother and I support and work hard for my children.I don't think I am a better mother than anyone else and we all do the best we can for our children.I hope the way I was treated hasn't put anyone else off posting when they truly need support.
Thank you for all of you who really cared enough to share your stories and give me some advise. It made me feel like I am not the only one going through it at the moment and this will pass.

oh dear, well I'll stand here and be ready for a roasting as I call dd2 'monkey monster' all the time, it's her little pet name and makes her giggle

but it seems that there is something wr]ong with that Sad

FillyjonktheFluffy · 12/06/2006 08:20

hey od, don't think you can't post when you're low, thats why MN is here!

MN has certain conventions like any other social group, you need to abide by them if you want an easy life. I think you have prob learnt a bit about how to phrase questions, yes?Wink. It is important, else you will have a thread of meta-discusiion.

fwiw i do feel "cow" is a very disrespectful way to refer to a little girl and i can't pretend otherwise...but really, so what if thats what I believe! I'm not with your family 24/7! Take the good advice and move on. Please don't stop posting or feel you can't post when low...

Oooh, I think you might have been savaged by the Cod somewhere though? If so, thats great, it means you are now an Established Poster (pace Franny). Cods never savaged me Sad though I have tried to provoke her on the matter of handbagsWink

Caligula · 12/06/2006 08:43

trinityrhino there's nothing wrong with that. I just don't like it - but who cares what I think? If you're happy with the expression it doesn't matter what other people think. I was just making the point that different people express themselves differently and there's no moral superiority to using one expression over another. I don't particularly like the expression cow (anymore than I like monkey Wink) but I didn't think it deserved the slightly hysterical response it got, that's all.

i am sorry - but i will say to you what i always have said to my husband - "if you dont want them to touch it - them fucking move it stupid"

hope that helps

BudaBabe · 12/06/2006 09:10

4 yr old boys also like to tip stuff in the bath! I am usually on MN when he is in the bath (he goes quiet for a second and I call him so he is safe!) and after him using up 3 bottles of shower stuff in 2 nights I now leave him empty bottles to play with. Or even bottles that are almost empty so he can make bubbles.

If he went for my make-up though that would be another matter!!

Maybe if you let your DD "do homework" too while you are helping your DSs, she might feel involved. You could get her some workbooks/activitybooks/stickerbooks from WH Smiths and she can join in. It may also help your DSs to "help" her.

trinityrhino · 12/06/2006 09:21

sorry caligula, I should have put a Grin or three in that post, I wasn't being serious, I agree with you that although I despise the use of 'cow' when refering to people, I had no urge to jump down the op's throat and thought it was a bit OTT.

Caligula · 12/06/2006 09:26

I've just realised I shouldn't have put a Grin in my post on the other thread if I'd wanted 100 outraged responses in 10 minutes Wink

trinityrhino · 12/06/2006 09:45

lol yeah I saw that, very funny Grin

mustrunmore · 12/06/2006 10:00

Personally, I dont like the use of the 'cow'. But I'm amazed that there have been so many objections when there are so many people that do use terms like that as the norm. Maybe its just that not many of them join things like mumsnet!

Re touching things, ds1 is 2.5, but virtually ever since he was born, I've put everything I value out of reach. I'm very picky about my personal bits and bobs, (dont even let dh touch my stuff Grin) so thought it was better to start how I meant to go on, and avoid problems later. He does fiddle with bathroom stuff, but at the end of the day, does it really matter? He knows not to drink things, there's nothing like bleach etc left in reach. He sits on his own in the bath for short periods, but I'm never more than a metre away and always in sight, eg seeing to ds2. I'm a bit horrified that you got a slating on here for leaving a 4 yr old in the bath, as this obviously means I must be a bad mother for ds1's bathtimes. Blush

arfy · 12/06/2006 10:03

oh I was trying not to post on here because I wanted it to die....

anyhow OD, hope you are feeling better and you did get some useful advice here. sorry for my part in any roasting, just really hated seeing that expression in active convos.

do post when you're down, is obv much better than getting het up in RL. and this will all blow over soon anyhow, very few (if any) people hold grudges on here.

lazycow · 12/06/2006 11:02

Am astonished at the reaction to the word 'cow' but then my name would tell you that Grin. I really don't see a problem with it especially since it wasn't said to the child directly but only as a way of letting off steam and out of earshot.

As for monkey - I am PML that people actually object to this term - but hey the web is an eye-opener if nothing else.

I can only sympathise with the touching everything as ds does this all the time but as he is younger I was hoping it would get better with age- Seems from all the comments I may have a long time to wait Sad

glassofwine · 12/06/2006 11:05

Glad to see the roasting has calmed down, I'd just like to say that bad mothers don't bother posting about these issues because they just don't care.

My DS age 3 1/2 and DD age 4 1/2 would both squirt and empty my stuff if they thought they'd get away with it. I do leave shampoo etc on open shelves, within reach, but luckily they have never touched it. Perfume and household cleaners etc are well out of reach. I do save all plastic bottles for them to play with in the bath so they have a collection of pouring and squirting things even large ones like old fabric conditioner bottles. It keeps them happy for ages and also DD age 6 too.

By the way I do leave them in the bath unattended while I put clothes away in bedrooms - all on same floor and I talk to them while I do it. I do think they are safe as there are usually all three or two in together and it's not as if it even goes quiet in there.

We all flip at times, you should have seen me on Sat morning.
