To bumbo or not bumbo?

Cnni ask for your positives and negatives? My DS is 13 weeks, has good head control and loves his baby bjorn chair.

Is a bumbo a good addition or expensive BCC (brightly coloured crap!)
Does it give him something the baby bjorn chair doesn't?
Have I missed something about it?

Piece of crap- neither of mine liked it and its easy to tip out of.

Fisher price jumperoo or rainforest bouncing chair better use of money .

There must be a reason why there are always LOADS for sale on eBay!

I've only used one for a little one once (I'm a childminder). Said child was a little on the chunky side and almost got wedged in it, even though he was only 5 months. His mum brought it with him that morning then took it back home and it never came back.

Totally didn't work for my DS. He is very tall and was looking very uncomfortable and unnatural when in it and I don't think it's a natural position for that age anyway. But friends of mine had it for their (compact) DD and had her sit on the table with them which seemed to work quite well - as long as you watch them.
I wouldn't use it again but how about you borrow one or buy it second hand.

Ds1 only fitted in it for a short while, he was a skinny baby, but with a massive bum (entirely due to reuseable nappies). Ds2 liked it, but by about 7 months he would tip himself out the side. I think they're a good idea, they're just not that great in practice.

A cushi tush is a far better buy. Have both and the cushi wins hands down! X

Bumbo £30 jumperoo £99?!

We had bimbo and worked fine

Bumbo was great for us, especially with the tray it was great for doing baby led weaning. Used it daily for months and months and then passed it onto a friend who also used it daily.

My eldest absolutely loved it & sat happily however my other 2 hated it & constantly tried to flip themselves out of it, so needless to say they were rarely in it!!

Think it depends on the child really!

Hardly used ours for dc1 but did use it a lot more for the next 2, they liked sitting up so thye could see their siblings playing properly.

Never bothered. We wedged DD into the middle of a beanbag. She went from that to sitting unaided. Bypassed the whole Bumbo thing entirely without even noticing.

It changed our life with DC1. She was a very grumpy baby - angst ridden about laying down on her back. Always wanted to be sat up but obviously that meant holding her on your lap which doesn't allow for getting much done. In the bumbo she could sit unaided and watch us, play with toys etc I genuinely think she just felt more part of things. Once she could sit entirely unaided we no longer used it but for about 3 months it was wonderful.

Used ours with the tray when we went camping as it was the smallest thing we could fit in the car for 6 month DD to sit & eat in.

Have one for DC3 (who isn't due until april) again for camping trips due to it being massively smaller than a highchair to fit in the car. Although I am hoping that I'll be able to sling this one much more.

DD (2) and DS(4) are currently using the bumbo to sit in a watch TV!!!

We loved ours, I think they work well for babies who have good head control and start getting nosy, but obv can't sit up yet, and I hate the "slumped in a high chair" thing when baby is too small. Agree with others who have said the tray is great. We got a similar-to-Bumbo product called a Bebepod, and the tray had various toys you could clip into it for baby to play with.

Ps I think Jumperoos are the most ugly and grim items ever! Have you seen how huge they are?

Both mine worked out how to get out of the Bumbo in a few minutes. Jumperoo on the other hand was brilliant for all of us. Much more expensive, but much more worthwhile.

We had one and found it really good for feeding before DS was happy in a high chair

My DS liked it for about 10 minutes then tried to do bend-backs out of it screaming his head off..... I persevered for about 5 more tried before I put it in the loft.

I got one with a tray for my DS, he hated it, he sat in it maybe three times; third time he managed to pull tray off and pulled himself out of it.

I firstly tried to sell it, then tried to give it away......its now in pur attic gathering dust, lol xx

Dd was tiny and a bumbo worked really well for her. Ds is big and looks wedged into it even at only 4 months old! See if you can borrow one to try before spending out for one.

We found it useful for about 8 weeks - would never buy one new, we had one from BIL. However, for that 8 weeks they are marvelous so don't reject them. Get one off ebay for next-to-nothing (you can order the search results by distance and find one close enough to collect in person there are that many of them), use it for a bit then get rid of it again.

The little plastic table is quite useful so go for one that has it if poss (they are an optional extra and not all 2nd hand ones will come with it)

Wonderful for about 8 weeks when too small to sit up. And then handy to restrain briefly once they are crawling and thighs slim down again.
And then resell.
Always loads of outgrown baby kit on Ebay etc.

Dd spent about 5 mins in her (thankfully secondhand) bumbo before it was consigned to the loft. She kept trying to escape, always leaning out to reach something. She loved her bright pink activity station that she could stand up and spin around in. 12 quid from ebay - a very wise buy!

I used mine for weeks, I wouldn't buy it again if that helps.
