What did your 1 year old do today?

Recently there was a thread on 'what your 2 year old said today' and it was lovely to read. I was a bit jealous I couldn't join in so I thought I'd do one for 1 year olds. They are so fun at this age and learning so much.
Today my DD (13 months) discovered the wonders of the toilet bowl as a place to throw stuff (hmm). She also found another baby at Playgroup who likes to open mouth kiss and I found them gumming each other like a bunch of lovestruck teenagers. Oh dear.
So tell me, what did your 1 year old do today?

It was the start of my first full (4 day) week back at work so DS (13 months) was at nursery Sad

However I got gorgeous smiles and snuggles when I picked him up. He was rather attached to a wooden spoon which I managed to distract him from with my shiny necklace Grin

He's not nearly as advanced as most of the babies on here but when we got home he opened the kitchen cupboards and removed ramekins whilst I made him so cereal, which he ate all of. He also drank water out of a cup with a straw for the first time. We played for a bit, he handed me Peepo and Dear Zoo to read to him but got distracted after the first two pages. He then stood at the bottom of the stairs rattling the stair gate as he was knackered and ready for bed!

My DD was one last Wednesday. She has a few words, kisses beautifully but only bum shuffles. Can't even pull herself up to standing yet. So again, not as advanced as many on here - but she doesn't need to be because her big brother and sister fuss over her constantly and she wants for nothing Grin

Today she tried marmite for the first time. It was a great success. She also discovered that if you drop a ball in your brother's cup of milk, it makes a lovely splashy mess on the carpet!

(Don't worry val, mine makes most of the ones on here sound like they should be in MENSA!)

ATourchOfInsanity · 09/10/2012 23:03

Randall Just reading THUD! by Pratchett and he says hippos make a 'hruuugh!' noise, apparently.
I have decided that elephants go 'Pawooo" now, which has made things slightly easier. I struggle with grumpy camel and thinking of how to make tiger different from either lion (roar) or dinosaur (grrr!)

Ds is 17mo.

He was a bit ill last week and is still recovering. We normally go for walks with him on foot, but took the buggy today.

So, today DS:
Went for a 1.5 hour walk in the buggy
Saw 2 diggers (gigger)
went to the train station to see trains (coo coo!)
Watched an episode of Thomas the Tank Engine (he now sings the words at the end of some of.the lines in the theme tune)
Napped for THREE HOURS
Ran from the stair gate in the hall to the fish tank in the kitchen and back about 20 times
Put megablocks inside one of his cars
Fell over trying to put both his feet in one of my shoes
Headbutted me in the nose
Had two very poopy nappies
Learned to say the word 'willy' and pointed to his willy saying 'pee' (lol)
Gave me a big hug when I was pretending to be sleepy
Ate half a tin of beans

What's not to love about having a toddler? :)

Oh, camels spit. We do spitting for the dear zoo camel.

JollyJack · 09/10/2012 23:12

Oh, and removed pans from the cupboard, turned them upside down and shouted 'spoon' at me until I got a spoon so he could bang them.

LST · 09/10/2012 23:14

My 11mo (sorry not quite one) made me blubber like a child when he appeared at the end of the hospital ward in stuck on for god know how long Sad

I havent seen him since I tucked him up in bed Sunday night. Kissed him and cuddled him and he normally doesn't cuddle back but he didn't move for an hour

oopsiforgot · 09/10/2012 23:19

Squeezed his pear, climbed all the furniture all the while saying ah-ah! Dug some soil and tried to blow the lights on and off Smile

RandallPinkFloyd · 10/10/2012 00:35

'hruuugh!'. got it Grin

DraggleTailedWench · 10/10/2012 21:49

LST - sorry you're not well, your post was lovely. Hope you get lots more hugs from DS soon!

Today my 11mo emptied out her box of books, climbed in. Waved.

Completely didn't get the new pop up toy I bought for her and just took all the pegs out and chewed them.

She clocked up one more step and looked at me in surprise.

I wondered what she was up to bobbing up and down in her cot and then realised she was playing peek a boo. That was a fun 15 mins of us both ducking and saying boo at each other. DD laughing hysterically. Grin

Love the thread!

Mine turned 1 yesterday Smile....

She is very proud that she can walk around holding my hand & claps frantically after she has done it (in a very wobbly style!).

Kissed me lots & given me a big cuddle, saying "argh" at the same time - she is super cuddly & it makes me melt.

Got excited when she saw daddy, shouting "dadada".

Fed me her soggy breadstick.

Tried to steal her sisters breakfast.

Ignored most of her new birthday presents & still trying to get hold of any pictures/remote controls/ other "illegal" items!

Karoleann · 23/10/2012 20:37

My 18month old actually took her first steps today (about time - she's DC3 and brothers walked at 12 months), she also shouted look look look through the headmistresses speech at an open day we went - as there was a very interesting digger outside. She ate a few things that weren't food and I extracted them from her mouth and she was very well behaved when we wwent for a nice breakfast this morning.

Wallace · 23/10/2012 20:47

My 1 year old is 23 months so just squeezing in here...

He:

woke up too early

took big brother to school on his balance bike then had a tantrum because he didn't want to go home and I had to carry toddler and bike

went for an early nap

went to the dirt jumps on his balance bike and had a great time

biggest brother took him out for a bike ride on his big boys bike - no stabilisers!

shouted "POO FACE" at the supper table (he has very few words so I was quite pleased...)

yum, cat sticks!

ElleOhElle · 23/10/2012 21:02

18month old slid down the last two stairs (luckily onto her hands and knees). Looked at me knowing she'd been naughty for climbing the stairs, crawled away at top speed and then sulked! I didn't say a word just went over to check she was ok. Cheeky monkey!

ordinaryprincess · 23/10/2012 22:04

My thirteen month old DS has taken to feeding Willow (our golden retriever) scraps from her highchair. I'm trying to nip it in the bud, especially as she does it when she's hungry but can't be bothered to chew. Today I caught her red-handed. Having just fed one soldier of toast to Willow, she was getting ready to drop a second one off the side.

Me: Imogen, no!

DS freezes, looking furtive.
Me: Not at the moment, Willow. (She can't bear to be scolded!)
Dog withdraws her paw.
Me: No, please, Imogen!
Slowly, DS pulls back the soldier, looking at me with round eyes.
Me: Oh, good girl Imogen! Well done!
DS puts the soldier into her mouth and clamps her teeth down with one inch inside and the rest hanging out. Her eyes are still fixed on me.
Me: What a great girl again, Imogen!
DS starts listing to one side.
Me: Imogen?
DS tilts further, still with the toast hanging out of her mouth. I watch like a buffoon. At the last moment, she turns her head and opens her mouth. I barely see the toast dropping into Willow's open jaws. DS turns to look at me with raucous laughter.

hayesgirl · 23/10/2012 22:07

My DS is 1.2
Today he learnt the baby sign language for food and milk, he made clicking noises to call some birdies (grandad taught him that!), he ate beans and sausages by eating it bean by bean then the sausages and then rubbed his toast in the remaining bean juice before eating it! He had a lovely snuggle with me before he went to bed and then all the way up stairs to his bedroom said 'ninigh munny' :)
Everyday he learns something new, I love it!
