My five month old keeps weeing in the bath. Had to change the water three times today for a five minute bath....any ideas? Am I alone?

No chance you've got twins!

GrinGrinGrin at "practically homeopathy"

TheEternalOptimist · 17/08/2012 22:06

Sorry, Keely. We are not laughing at you, or just a bit.

We have all done the PFB thing - come on, you lot. Admit to your PFBisms to make the OP feel better.

I wrote a 2 page instruction sheet for my mum when she looked after my DD for the first time, complete with phone number of doctor, local hospital and the poison hotline.

She managed not to laugh at me until I was out of earshot

Commutinghell · 17/08/2012 22:07

I think you're all being a bit harsh with the OP, although I do agree a bit of wee won't matter. Just a thought, my DD always fills her nappy first thing in the morning (poo because I hear it but probably wee too). Maybe he just pees first thing in the morning as part of his routine, perhaps if you just gave him a wipe with a babywipe first thing with his morning nappy change, then bathed him later in the morning he might be less likely to pee on the bath? Only a thought Wink

IwishIwasinLondon · 17/08/2012 22:08

Welcome to mumsnet Keely!

openerofjars · 17/08/2012 22:09

Wait til he poos in it. That is fairly horrible! Look, urine is sterile as it comes out of the body and he's a tiny baby, not a massive welder who's been out on the Newky Brown last night, so his wee will have nothing really nasty in it. A bit of wee won't hurt. Seriously.

If you're mega bothered, undress him, lie him down on his changing mat for a few minutes, wait for him to wee, wipe everything down and then bathe him. It's probably the fresh air and water on his skin that makes him wee when you wash him (you know, like going out into the cold makes you want to wee).

That and I think that babies do a lot of things for fun. Right now, for instance, my baby DD is staying awake so I can't have wine...

LetsKateWin · 17/08/2012 22:09

I liked the homeopathy gag too. Might steal it for myself Grin

TodaysAGoodDay · 17/08/2012 22:11

He'll be fine keely they all do it. I was like that with DS's bath for a while, you give up eventually when you realise it won't do him any harm.

Herrena · 17/08/2012 22:11

Have you ever been to a public swimming pool? Then the prospect of swimming in a bit of wee shouldn't alarm you...

Seriously though, it is not a problem at all (apart from a small amount of 'ick' factor for you clearly).

BlackSwan · 17/08/2012 22:16

Keely027 - it's just a little baby wee wee. It's not the foot long poo my 2.5 DS did recently. Even he didn't want to sit in it after that happened! I threw out the entire bath and made him have showers for a couple of nights until we replaced it. Are you sufficiently revolted? Sorry.

5madthings · 17/08/2012 22:16

err i wouldnt bother, it will be fine, mega diluted and baby wee is generally very dilute anyway. seriously its not worth worrying about :)

TheEternalOptimist · 17/08/2012 22:17

I am waiting for your PFB stories, you lot.

Which MNetter was it who squirted Johnson & Johnson shampoo into her own eyes, to check if it was truly 'no tears'

Tee2072 · 17/08/2012 22:28

I honestly, hand on heart, have no PFB stories.

Artex
I remember hanging up the first load of washing before DD was born and ironing everything. Was so chuffed with myself. SIL came in and mocked me saying that will be the last time you iron her clothes.

she was right.

Herrena · 17/08/2012 22:56

I was accused of treating my first born like he was third or fourth because I was so lax with him ('he won't die of crying for a few minutes while I have a wee' - sample quote).

DS2 is lucky if we remember to feed him.

Sorry OP Blush

veeeee · 17/08/2012 23:04

My pfb dd wees in the bath. And I use the water to clean her toothbrush!

keely027 · 18/08/2012 00:47

Yes, I suppose I could be accused of my son being a PFB as you call him. I guess that's because my husband is sterile, I had to use a donor sperm to conceive , I went thought six years of iui and Ivf hell. I had to deal with the thought I might never have children and only my last try before my funding ran out I fell pregnant. Today I went for councelling at the hospital where it was revealed to me in minute technicolour detail that I nearly died and so did my son when my placenta abbrupted during labour and if they hadn't got him out in three minutes he would have died. So forgive me for being a bit PFB around my son and his bath water.

Keely, you be as PFB as you like but promise yourself that you won't beat yourself up when you make different decisions about situations as you go along.

Your DC is lucky to have you but he's not designed to be sterile. At 5 months he's soon going to access all sorts of things which will give you kittens when he starts to get about for himself. Wipes are your friend, and in 6 months time I'll bet you'll happily accept a damp, cleanish dishcloth in their place Grin

MrsRhettButler · 18/08/2012 01:12

I would change the water if my baby peed in it! I can't believe everyone is happy cleaning their kids in piss!

I have two so not pfb here, just clean :)

How old is he op? I started showering mine once they were sitting.

MrsRhettButler · 18/08/2012 01:14

Veeee! That's a step too far! Would you clean your toothbrush in dirty peed in bath water?

Come on people!

HolyOlympicNamechangeBatman · 18/08/2012 01:14

keeley everyone means well, honestly. It's just a bit of gentle joking. Have a look for some of the pfb threads and see what crazy things everyone else did. Don't be upset, hurt and put off MN, take it as intended and in a year or so you'll look back and think 'wtf was I doing?!'.

You don't need to change the bath water, a little bit of wee in it is fine I promise!

MrsRhettButler · 18/08/2012 01:24

Sorry, just saw that he's 5mo, can he sit up yet? If so then sit him on a mat in the bath and shower him :)
