just wondering how you are all getting on.

dd2 has had another growth spurt. is now wearing clothes for 6/7year olds, and size 10.5G shoe size. I cant pass down any of dd1 clothes as they are no almost exactly the same height. dd2 is 3.5years old now. just wondering if she wil lever stop growing. lol. dd1 is 6years old. i imagine that when dd2 starts school she will be taller than her older sister.

My dd will be 5 in May and wears age 8 tops and size 12 - 13 shoes. Her legs aren't quite so long as the rest of her though; she's in age 6 trousers (although not for long, as I noticed when I got her dressed this morning - I can feel another growth spurt coming on!). It doesn't concern me too much, particularly as I've noticed that there are several children in Reception with her who are almost as tall. It caused a couple of problems when she first started school, when older children thought she was their age and tried to play a bit rougher with her than she was used to, but that soon settled down.

The only time it irritates me is when her clothes are more expensive than the same item in a smaller size would be. Plus it's getting hard to get clothes that don't look as if they're intended for young teenagers - the hooker look isn't a good one on a child who's not 5 yet!

jessicaandrebeccasmummy · 11/03/2006 12:25

Jess is 19 months and wear age 2-3 tops that are starting to get too small... yet she has short little legs and the 18-24 month trousers need rolled up twice!

Never can win with kids clothes!

I know a just 3yr old in 6-7yr olf clothes.

misdee · 11/03/2006 12:26

i remember being asked if dd2 was joing the reception children in meeting the teacher, i just replied 'she is 2' the teacher looked a bit shocked to say the least. Grin

DD is tall too, she is 4 and wears up to age 8 tops but only size 6 for trousers.
She has a long body. I think she has had a bit of a growth spurt lately, her trousers look a bit hoisty!
Mind you her feet are still only a size 10.

My DS is tall but has a skinny frame and doesn't seem to need large sizes. He will be 2 soon and is still waiting to get into some 18-24mths!

WigWamBam · 11/03/2006 12:28

Do you find that getting well-fitting clothes is hard? Although dd's very tall she's very slim as well, and finding trousers and skirts that are long enough but fit well around a skinny waist is really hard (thank heavens for Pumpkin Patch and their adjustable waists!).

misdee · 11/03/2006 12:31

it can be hard finding clothes that fit. tescos have started doing adjustable waists and so have next. dd2 also have alarger than average head, so sometimes getting tops on can be a problem.

what i find hard top deal with is that people expect her to act older than she is. somedays i end up snarling 'she is only 3years old' when someone has a go about hjer behaving like a 3yr old, because she does look so much older.

tbh we are v.hard up at the moment and the kids have to live in 2nd hand or hand me downs - Nothing really fits properly anyway.

Posey · 11/03/2006 12:34

Adjustable waists have been a real help for us, or else we just have to use belts. Dd is tall and slim, age 8 but wearing age 10-11 clothes for leg length.

WigWamBam · 11/03/2006 12:34

I know what you mean about the larger head ... dd loves polo necks at the mmoment, and I've struggled to find them to fit her. She has some Gap ones, but they're hopeless. H&M's tops seem to have pretty wide necks. They do adjustable waisted trousers too, but they're too short in the waist for dd, she gets builder's bum in them.

notasheep · 11/03/2006 12:40

Poor ds cant get any of his jumpers over his head.

Bit concerned how big he will be when he gets to school as he is only 18months! and nearly as tall as boys in reception!

Posey · 11/03/2006 12:42

I always find Vertbaudet headholes really small.

misdee · 11/03/2006 12:42

at least with gairks you can put them in cardigans. asda polo j8umpers are ok to fit over her head but at stupidly short in the body!

My larger toddler has turned into a very average sized 3.5 year old.

His feet have grown half a size in over 18 months and he has been wearing the same clothes for a year.

Now we even have to get adjustable waist trousers as to get the length he needs in the leg, the waist is too big.

Reckon he is around 35lbs - which is only 3lbs heavier than he was on his second birthday.....

popsycalindisguise · 11/03/2006 12:49

actuallyt only 2lbs heaveir
feet are 8.5G

alexsmum · 11/03/2006 13:39

i have a 'just' 6 year old who is wearing age 8 clothes..i bought him a top the other week that was 9-10. he has size 2 and a half feet.
He's really skinny though so we use belts a lot!
agree about people expecting more of them-really annoys me.

all4girlz · 11/03/2006 13:52

hi this caught my eye as I have a dd3 aged 3 who wears all her sisters clothes dd2 aged 5

I too get a bit upset as people assume that she is older because she is tall and is actually really good with her vocabulary but her behaviour is stillthat of a normal 3 y r old.

had to laugh at wig wam bam totally agree about the hooker look!! not for my girls yet either.

coppertop · 11/03/2006 13:55

Ds1 has always looked older than he actually is. The "Why isn't he in school today?" comments (including from a truancy patrol in town Shock) started before his 3rd birthday. When he went to his future school's Open Day several staff members asked which school he was transferring from. He wasn't even 4.

The big problems were the ones that others have already mentioned. Trousers were a nightmare because the waists were so baggy and he was too young to be able to manage a belt. He also had/has a large head so finding T-shirts and jumpers that he could get into was also difficult. Shoes were a problem as the ones in his size were obviously designed for much older boys and so were very heavy with chunky soles.

At 5.5yrs old his growth has slowed down. He is still tall but as he is also one of the youngest in his class he no longer stands out quite so much. His clothes are usually an 8-9yrs size and he has size 12 feet.

kate100 · 11/03/2006 14:41

I thought that my toddler was big at 2.7 but his 7 month old 'little' brother is enormous. He's just moved into 12-18 month clothes and they're just a bit too big. DS1 has real trouble with trousers, now that he's potty trained nothing will stay up, thank goodness for Gap adjustable waists. Roll on the summer, it doesn't matter about the length of shorts. I get people asking if DS is starting at school soon, as not only is he big, he's also a little chatterbox and has no trouble making himslef understood. Listening to you ladies it sounds like life with bigger than average kids gets more interesting Grin

misdee · 11/03/2006 14:43

oh its gets very interesting. at the age of 3 i still took dd1 to toddler world for soft play as dd2 (then a baby) could also play. dd2, on the other hand is too big for toddler world, and we get some awful looks from parents of small similar ages children as they think she is so much older, so poor old dd3 gets carted off to teh big activity world as dd2 can play there, but the baby section is pants. does that make sense?

OP posts:
kate100 · 11/03/2006 14:59

People keep asking me if DS2 can walk yet, er no, he's 7 months old! Sounds like soft play in the future will be fun.

misdee · 11/03/2006 15:01

oh dd2 was walking at 10months. that caused more problems, a baby who looked older than most 2year old walking about.

ruty · 12/03/2006 10:48

18 month ds wearing age 2-3 clothes. He was born a pound short of ten pounds. I'm hoping he will continue to be big - i mean tall, not wide!

ruty · 12/03/2006 15:12

i've killed three threads in one afternoon. Hat trick!

staceym11 · 12/03/2006 15:20

now i know im not in the same boat but would like to give my experience. dd is tiny, she wasnt really small at birth but doesnt seem to grow at a great rate. she is 16 month old and only just gone into most 9-12 mth clothes, iv found it very hard as they aren't always suitable for her as are designed for younger children, they make her look very babylike and odd i think.

i do realise its probably harder the other way as they then grow up even faster as people expect them to behave in a certain way, but i find that with dd too.

i timed her out at a bday party yest as she was showing off (tantruming really i suppose) and the looks people gave me because although she can walk (just) she only looks about 6/7 month old and they thought i was being cruel!!!!
