just wondering how you are all getting on.

dd2 has had another growth spurt. is now wearing clothes for 6/7year olds, and size 10.5G shoe size. I cant pass down any of dd1 clothes as they are no almost exactly the same height. dd2 is 3.5years old now. just wondering if she wil lever stop growing. lol. dd1 is 6years old. i imagine that when dd2 starts school she will be taller than her older sister.

Misdee - pumpkin patch trousers have adjustable waists. Their clothes are available online too!

magnolia1 · 12/03/2006 15:29

dd4 is 2 and in 3-4 and some age 4 next clothes. It's weirde coz she was 7 weeks early and weight 4lb 7oz Grin

Didn't stay small for long but with a dad who is 6'6" I am not suprised!!

childern · 12/03/2006 15:58

I have two ds 1 who is 31/2 and the other will be 2 very soon my 2 year old is nearly as tall as his brother, but he is only in 2/3 year old clothes but he is as tall as his class mates sometimes it all depends on where you buy the clothes from, found that next runs very big.

JoPG · 12/03/2006 16:42

WigWamBam - I know exactly what you mean about clothes not being suitable for a child / toddler who is wearing clothes in sizes much larger than his/her age. DS1 is 4 and in size 6 clothes. A few weeks ago in M&S I saw a top with a massive skull and cross bones on it with the slogan 'Rotten to the Core' - Charming! Needless to say I didn't buy it!

Troutpout · 12/03/2006 16:52

dd has just had her 3rd birthday...and is in mainly aged 5 tops and aged 4 bottoms. Her feet are size 10.
She is quite tall...(much bigger than ds was at this age, who remains one of the smallest in his year). Last July (when she was 2)one of the dinner ladies asked if she was starting school in September . I was gobsmacked!
There is a big age gap between my boy and my girl though...so i don't think she will ever overtake her brother (thankfully for him)
There was only about 3 oz between them at birth though...it's amazing how their growth is so different

My 8 year old Ds1 is wearing 10/11 year old trousers, thankfully most places are adding adjustable waists to tehir childrens clothes, because although the length is fine, the waists are amssive. My Ds1 is really skinny though. I had a shouting match with a woman once at a soft play area, as he was only 3 and he was wanting to play with the other kids. She called hima freak, because he was wearing 5 year old clothes. He is head and shoulders above all his friends. The thing is, I'm tall, and it has always been commented on and I have always been teased and even now at 35, people still comment on it. I can see this happening with my son as well, he told me the other day that someone at school called hima giraffe. Unfortunately its not just children who make comments.
One woman who said the usual
"ooh isn't he big" was greeted with
"no your child is abnormally small"
Soon shut her up

misdee · 12/03/2006 17:54

someone called your child a freak?!!! Shock

Yes! I still scowl at the woman when i see her. Believe me though i have been called a lot worse for being 5ft 11ins.

spursmum · 12/03/2006 17:58

You've seen my ds Misdee. He's well into another growth spurt. He's 4 tomorrow and he's been in 5-6 year olds clothes for 3 months and already the arm length is becoming a problem. He has the same problem as me, the sleeve stops above the wrist. And he's just so damn skinny, he needs a belt to hold his trousers up!
Oh and he's just gone up a shoe size again!!
But I am 6ft and his father was 6ft 5ins!

Jasnem · 12/03/2006 18:09

I've had all the problems listed, too.
DD1 is 6 1/2 and wearing 8-9 yr clothes for the length. I have to take in the waists, as adjustable ones seem to bunch up alot, and aren't comfortable. I got the first "why isn't she at school?" comments when she was 2. She is one of the youngest in her class, and it's only now that a couple of the boys are getting close to her height.

Luckily I have DD2 who is also tall, so all those clothes that are grown out of in no time at all get a bit of use from her.Smile

mrspitt · 12/03/2006 18:10

ds is 4.5 and wears 6-7 on top but skinny like his dad so age 5 for trousers so they stay up but always look a little shortBlush.

dd1 is 2.2 and wears age 3-4 on top but again skinny hips so only age 2 for trousers but they also look slightly shortBlushBlush
Plus her feet are 7.5E.

dd2 now 8 weeks and wearing 3-6 months for the legth but doesn't fill them out the way!

I'm tall and dh is over 6ft so obviously our kids are going to be tall but sometimes i feel sorry for the kids cos people expect so much from them but i do love saying " Well he's only 4!!!" Then see the reaction on their faceGrin

pashmina · 13/03/2006 13:33

both my dd's are tall, esp dd2 (she was 59cms long when she was born, and 10lbs 14oz). she doesn't even get a look in an her big sisters hand me downs!

she is now 4.6yrs, and I struggle with good clothes, gap and boden seenm the best, but if anyone has some links to other good internet sites I would appreciate it??

Sparklemagic · 13/03/2006 13:56

Nice to hear others have the same struggles actually! My DS is 3 but the most recent T-shirts I bought him are age 6 - 7 and he wears size 12 shoes!

I really worry about him at school as he's going to be probably the youngest in the school but I know people will expect more of him because he's tall...

leggymamba · 13/03/2006 17:28

My ds is 10 months and wearing age 2 clothes (he fills them length and width). Last time I had him weighed he was 30 lb (having neurotic mother moments - not helped by another thread on here about obese children). I keep getting the isn't he walking yet looks and comments. The other thing that gets annoying for me is the 'gosh your husband must be tall' - he's not!

Was encouraged by a few people on this thread saying that big toddlers have slowed down to average children as was begining to worry about where he was heading!

I found next really small fitting, Sainsburys I don't even bother with. I think the best are tesco (as they tend to be quite wide) and mothercare as the arms are quite long. - Would also like links to other websites with nice big (and not too expensive) clothes

williamsmummy · 13/03/2006 17:45

my dd7 has just got in to age 10-11 clothes, and although she is long legged and eats less than my underweight child (10) she is developing a tummy!
I cant get to grips with a child that keeps growing so fast upwards but still has enough of a calorie intake to lay a bit of fat!!!
She is a size 3 in shoes.

She towers above her friends, who happen to be the shortest in her class and is very aware that she is the tallest.
As she is only going to be 8 this summer I would still like to find some girly pretty summer dresses, but all the fashions are incredibly grown up. I hate spaghetti shoulder straps on little girls.

my first two sons are big lads and my 14 yr old has had feet the same size as his father, and is taller than him as well!! I am worried as we have a few more years left of hormone type growth!!
my 12yr old is wearing 15-16 yr old clothes and is in the middle of a big growth spurt.

my third son is 10 and as he is thin I find it difficult to get anything to fit around his middle. he needs age 10 t-shirts for arm length, but the material in the middle flaps around him like a tent!
I find boys clothes very uninspiring. and hate some of the negitive stuff on their t-shirts.

Sparklemagic · 13/03/2006 18:05

williamsmummy I absolutely agree about the slogans on boys clothes, I refuse to buy anything that has something negative written on it - I spend my life telling my DS how gorgeous and lovely he is, why would I then put him in something that says 'trouble' or something like that. I hate all the 'stereotypical' children's clothes - if I had a girl I would hate all the pink, pink and more pink!

WedgiesMum · 13/03/2006 18:41

I have a 6 year old who is currently in age 10/11 clothes and size 3 shoes. It is a VERY expensive business clothing him as he grows at an average of about 8 cm a year atm although between 2 and 4 he grew over 1cm per month. We get some very odd looks in the changing room at the swimming pool (boys over 7 not allowed) and pointed comments, so I always make sure I talk about his age VERY LOUDLY. At over 140 cm tall he is soon going to be too tall to play in lots of the soft play areas (maximum is often 145cm)and I am dreading party invitations for those places because he won't be able to go! And don't get me started on trousers! He is quite skinny for his height and even with a belt he always has a 'baggy bum' or his underpants showing. I've decided the best way to deal with that is to buy really long jumpers so it covers a multitude of sins!!!

tysmaw · 13/03/2006 19:53

My ds has just turned 10 months and he has always been big, he was 9lb 7oz when he was born and now weighs 24lbs. He has always been in the 99th percentile for his length, and is just under the 98th for his weight.

My sils ds is nearly 13 months old and she is quite petite. My ds is 3lbs heavier and about the same length, so at every family gathering people would observe what my niece would be doing and then turn to me and say 'is your son not doing that yet?'

I'm sick of shouting 'NO' because he's 3 months younger and that's a long time in baby terms. It really annoys me, even though I know it shouldn't. Sorry for the rant Smile
