Could your 3.9 yr old read this?

Have put a photo on my profile of an excerpt from a book (a crap book thanks to FIL but that's a whole other story Grin).

I'm genuinely curious to know if your DC could read/have read this independently at around this age?

It's impressive, but doesn't actually mean anything, does it?

I mean, I couldn't read at that age and did, ahem, more-than-ok, at school and academically.

It just means that the kids who can't read at that age haven't been taught to do it. They will catch up when they start school. The schools seem far more bothered by a child's ability to dress itself or use the toilet unaided.

BTW Bunny your DD is gorgeous!

I agree with poppy. As I said, my 4yo could read that. He cannot, however, dress himself. I know which one will be more of an issue when he starts school.

I agree with Worry and Poppy - my 4 year old can read quite well for his age but he has suspected Asperger Syndrome (quite mild). He struggles with dressing himself although not too bad on the bottom half. I am much more worried about PE lessons, potential toilet accidents, lunchtimes, and so on when he starts school in September... There's always something to worry about, eh?!
