Did you child "miss" the rolling over stage?

My DD is almost 21 weeks old. She is trying to sit up at the moment, and when gently pulled she'll sit up and then pushes herself to a standing position (obviously supported by somebody).
She seems most happy sitting up or on her feet. She is showing no sign of wanting or trying to roll over. My DH and I have been rolling her on a blanket, and we put her on her tummy a lot, but should be we concerned that she is trying to sit up and not roll?

I wouldn't worry - ds is 10mo and has only been rolling properly (as opposed to half hearted attempts) for a few weeks. He sat up early though.

lahdeedah · 01/03/2006 18:21

My DD was never bothered about rolling over either. She was sitting unsupported at 24 weeks, and only started rolling just before she started crawling, at around 8/9 months. It's nothing to worry about.

Flibbertygibbet · 01/03/2006 18:22

No, no reason to be concerned. Both my boys hardly rolled at all - crawled at 9 months, walked at 12.

Aw, cant believe she doesn't like the bumbo!

Evie is most fascinated with her baby door bouncer. Anything that keeps her upright, preferably on her feet. Even when she's being held, she doesn't like being held "like a baby" up upways, preferably staring out at people. She's a little nosy!

I was just getting worked up at the not rolling bit as she just does not seem interested, as I said she's trying to sit not roll.

Neither of my dd's rolled until after they were crawling!

GeorgieVickyLou · 01/03/2006 22:13

DD got on to her side but that was about it for rolling (if you can call it that) but she was walking at 10 months (wish she had waited a bit longer)

rarrie · 02/03/2006 12:13

Like others, mine did not roll until way after she could sit or crawl. She sat at 5 1/2 months, and crawled at 7 1/2 but didn't roll until 8 months! Nowt to worry about, I'd say!

mcmudda · 02/03/2006 12:38

nO rolling here at 8.5 months, but sitting up unsupported since 5months. My HV says some skip it and go straight to crawling or cruising.

blondie82 · 02/03/2006 12:52

my dd only rolls over now and then. think shes only done it about twice. shes 7 months old. still cant sit up on her own either. was thinking about getting her that bumbo....
is it any good then?

chocolateshoes · 02/03/2006 13:00

My DS is 8mths 1 week, has been sitting unsupported since 5mths & is now crawling. He has never rolled & doesn't seem interested in the slightest. If lying on his back he tries to get up using his stomach muscles - he's going to have the best 6-pack ever!!

mummygow · 02/03/2006 13:01

Elf, my ds (18 weeks) not interested either but like your dd loves his door bouncer and being upright, he would let me pull him up onto his feet all day (he's not even tying to get up himself) but hates being on his front.

Nightynight · 02/03/2006 13:27

Im fairly sure that at least one of mine never rolled over.

HenniPenni · 02/03/2006 13:42

None of my 3dds rolled over, I remember my health visitor saying how unusual it was for one not to roll nevermind all three.

minniemooch · 02/03/2006 14:56

Hi, my two dd's (now 2 and 4 ) completely bypassed rolling - dd1 tried couldn't do it and gave up, dd2 didn't even tried. They are both fine.

fennel · 02/03/2006 14:58

none of my 3 ever rolled more than about once or twice. they did everything else more or less on time though. clearly some children are just not rollers.

mommie · 02/03/2006 14:59

my dd (16 months) never rolled. Gp said 'some babies never do'. She is a late walker, which may be connected, but fine in all other respects.

Hulababy · 02/03/2006 15:20

I can't remember DD (now nearly 4yo) ever rolling at all. She sat early (17 weeks) and was on her feet very early too. She hated being laid down once she could sit.

Dottydot · 02/03/2006 19:22

ds2 who's nearly 2 didn't roll at all - I think because (a) he was too fat and (b) too unco-ordinated! Having said that he sat and walked early - with many falls of course...

jambot · 03/03/2006 12:43

My DD, nearly 1, only rolled at 9 months. Since then, things have moved on very fast and think she'll probably take her first steps near to her birthday. She only sat at 7 and a half months.

busywizzy · 03/03/2006 14:58

My DS rolled at about 5 months but only for 2 weeks and then forgot how to do it Shock Now just coming up to his first birthday, he can sit up and started crawling only a few weeks ago but if he falls backward from sitting, he just lies there waiting to be picked up, rather than rolling onto his tummy and crawling off.

He's a really lazy boy ................ and I love him for it Smile

Pagan · 03/03/2006 15:01

My DS is 14 months and will not roll - hates being on his tum. Bumshuffles or walks round the furniture but put him on his back and he's stuck like a beetle!

schneebly · 03/03/2006 15:09

DS1 never really rolled but walked fairly early etc - DS2, however, used rolling as a means of transport! lol

biglips · 03/03/2006 15:32

my DD (17m) never rolled either

maretta · 03/03/2006 15:51

Wow. Nearly posted about this myself. My ds is 23 weeks and has never rolled. I couldn't understand it because he seems strong. It seems there's a whole army of non rollers out there.
