What's the worst thing your DC has handed you/ eaten?

I ask because DD (18m) handed me something flobbery yesterday ... the entrails of something the cat had brought in earlier. And from the way she was licking her lips, I think it had gone straight into the mouth.

Please reassure me that social services won't be round immediately and this kind of thing happens a lot!

(Cat doesn't leave bowels around very often and it must have been very fresh, I hasten to add).

My ds1 was once found to be sucking on a dead shrew that the cat had killed. He was about 13 mnths.
He lived. Grin

RhinestoneCowgirl · 20/06/2012 21:07

When potty training DS (2.5) rushed into the room in some distress, scrubbing at his mouth with a flannel.

With tears in his eyes he said to me 'Mummy, not eat poo!'...

MuckingFuddle · 20/06/2012 21:09

My dt's have eaten woodlice, snails and each others poo - no rodents yet but it is only a matter of time Wink

LeoTheLateBloomer · 20/06/2012 21:16

I was in my bedroom on the phone and DD (2.2) was in her room looking at books. She happily pottered into my room and shoved her hand in my face. Yep, moments earlier it had been inside her really revolting nappy. Fortunately it was only my sister on the phone who had the pleasure of hearing my reaction Blush

daytoday · 20/06/2012 22:03

A worm. Then a ladybird. Then a spider. Thank got flies are quick or he'd had a few of them.

dangerousliaison · 20/06/2012 22:11

dd had chicken pox when she was abot 2 1/2 ish, dd begining to recover and we where visiting my dsis, dd had been naughty and was sat on the stairs and my nephew came and told me dd was eating her scabs, as I approached the hall I could hear her singing, "picking my scabs and eating them, eating them, eating them, picking my scabs and eating them all day long" Grin

wideratthehips · 21/06/2012 13:19

My pfb supped the rain water from a snail shell when he was crawling around the garden and I was sure that he was done for. Can't think of anything really disgusting, probably a peperami that ds now eight has taken a liking to ( I try to tell him its made from pigs bums (?!) but he doesn't care,

jeee · 21/06/2012 13:21

When DS was about 18 months old he became fascinated with his older sister's potty. In my naivity, I thought it was because he was getting ready to ditch the nappies.

I found him, on his hands and knees, lapping up his sister's wee.

onelittlemonkey · 21/06/2012 15:05

DS 13mo did a wee on the carpet this morning and immediately bent down to lick it up...
...other than that, nothing too bad - the worst has been cat food and a wood louse.

mosschops30 · 21/06/2012 15:15

Ds2 came downstairs with something brown in his hand and handed it to me like it was the best present ever.
I looked at dh, he looked at me, i smelt it, and yes as i suspected it was a poo that ds1 had not flushed.

Lovely!

oreocrumbs · 21/06/2012 15:20

Worst thing she has eaten apart from MIL's cooking is a slug. Worst thing she has handed me was dog poo when out for a walk. Thankfully she didn't eat that.

She reguarly eats/licks/touches all manor of unsavoury things . She looks like an angel and acts like a little monster Grin.

We were round my SIL and sitting in her garden with lots of family around when my DS who was 2 at the time toddled up to me very proudly with something cradled in his two hands.
I asked him what it was he had to show me and he opened his hands to show me a handful of baby mice.
My SIL screamed, many of the other guests also screamed, my DS was very proud of his discovery!

cabbi · 23/06/2012 17:25

This thread is just what I need today. On way to park, my 2.5yr, stuck her toy flute into dried dog mess on the pavement and then put flute back in her mouth!Shock There didn't appear to be anything in her mouth, but trip to GP on Monday. Still upset.

hev3sofar · 23/06/2012 20:14

My dd ate a frozen mouse (out defrosting for the snake) when she was about 18 months our doc was concerned about salmonella so sent us to a+e where the doc wasnt sure what to do and the nurses kept coming in and asking if it was true! She is still proud of this 7 years on lol

lola88 · 23/06/2012 20:23

DN ate half a tub of of sudocream at 18 months was found sitting in the livingroom with the tub between her legs saying nummy nummy :)

SuzySheepSmellsNice · 23/06/2012 20:29

Bless baby hoodoo for finding the mice, how cute! My nephew was crawling round the garden and found a snail, popped it in his mouth chewed it then spat out the crunchy bit... Ewww! DS hasn't eaten anything too disgusting yet (he ate a buttercup in the garden which he spat out) but the does have a fascination with the loo, and if I leave the bathroom door open he is in there like a shot! I found him with some of those Duck Fresh Discs on his hands...)

And to the poo threads... Yuck yuck yuck! :)

mummyhat · 26/08/2012 21:42

I bloody love MN! Been googling/youtubing 'licking snails' (don't recommend and if needs must, only on an empty stomach) for 2 hours due to today's antics by resident kamikaze goat 15 month old, which has rendered me less than reassured...once again one look on here and my neurosis is allayed, sense of humour restored Smile thankyou all!

ThatGhastlyWoman · 26/08/2012 21:51

All I am going to say is, we were visited some weeks ago by The Dread Pirate Poobeard. They say that in the dark watches of the night, the agonised screaming can still be heard...

GinFilth · 26/08/2012 21:51

My DS once sadly told DP & I "you shouldn't eat poo" after we discovered him in his bedroom having just taken his nappy off.
"Have you eaten poo?!" was our shocked chorus.
He looked like a rabbit caught in the headlights - lie or own up? He kept very, very quiet instead.

Nowadays, he'd deny. I love how honest 2 yr olds are.

sarlbear · 27/08/2012 22:39

My DS has eaten, among other delightful things, a dead slug, and a liquitab for the washing machine. The liquitab made him very sick - he had eaten strawberries earlier that day and the liquitab was removing the colour from the strawberries! The doctor at a&e did wave us off with, 'I expect we'll see you again soon.'

I have also seen him drink puddles and I often catch him licking rain off cars, metal gate posts, etc, etc. He licks shop till faces (he's 3 so they are right in front of him) and chews on the rubbery strips they line supermarket tills with to stop trolleys damaging them. (I do suspect he has some sensory issues!)

In addition to his lovely dietary preferences, he has taught his younger brother to wash his hands IN the toilet!! Obviously, I have since 'untaught' him! ... Never a dull moment with my DS around!

Funnily, of my 3 DCs, he is by far the least likely to fall ill!

brightonbleach · 28/08/2012 08:35

I remember seeing a pal's DS lick a snail.... I was pregnant at the time and thought I'd never seen anything so disgusting HA :) now I have a toddler who will still eat public sandpit sand very happily and likes to lick sink edges (!) and stick his hand in public bins to see whats in there so of course nothing shocks any more. He doesnt get ill much funnily enough.

suburbandweller · 28/08/2012 11:11

Funnily enough, my 20mo DS' best yet was this morning - I was beginning to get worried as all had gone quiet, when in he toddled from his bedroom clutching a tube of metanium. Upon closer inspection it was clear that the lid from said tube was missing and there was telltale yellow cream all around his mouth (with DS licking his lips). He seemed happy enough about it though and was not at all impressed with me forcefully washing his mouth out!

Marrow · 28/08/2012 11:18

Found DS (20 months) happily chomping on a slug last week. There was a chunk of it missing. The whereabouts of the missing bit of slug is something which I really don't want to think about!!

ZuleikaD · 28/08/2012 12:28

DD used to eat whole live snails. I don't know why, you'd have thought one would be disgusting enough to put her off.

superdragonmama · 28/08/2012 12:36

Another slug chomper here......aaargh! (I have slug hatred, vile slimy things)

But (now adult) ds1 almost never gets ill.....coincidence? Hmm
