My lovely little 3 year old daughter goes mad when we get dressed everyday. It is making me very stressed. She just wants to wear pink clothes and read pink books, and use pink things. I don't know what to do. Mainly try o ignore it, but every morning results in a massive crying and screaming much when I try to get her dressed. Help?!

OP posts:

Just let her wear pink. She'll move on from it soon enough

blackoutthesun · 29/02/2012 12:43

so let her wear pink

MateyMooo · 29/02/2012 12:46

pick your battles, so long as she is dressed in warm/ cool enough clothes.

it falls under the heading of 'small stuff' as in 'dont sweat the small stuff'

Kellamity · 29/02/2012 12:48

Let her wear it/play with it. She'll move on, she's only 3. DD1 was a very pink girl when she was little - she's 9 now and hates it! DD2 loves it at the moment, she's 3 and has inherited all DD1's clothes/toys etc - phew!!

MateyMooo · 29/02/2012 12:50

so long as she isnt in stripper heels!

biglips · 29/02/2012 12:52

same as my friend's 3 yrs old as she only wear and have things that are pink

ReallyTired · 29/02/2012 12:55

I think that a lot of girls go through a pink phase. Thankfully we have escaped up to do date.

Don't worry.

MrsCarriePooter · 29/02/2012 12:59

DD was going this way (despite not having lots of pink stuff at home) but then she watched Disney's Cinderella and instantly switched to a blue obsession.

ApocalypseCheeseToastie · 29/02/2012 13:03

Who cares ? It's only a colour.

If she liked yellow or red it wouldn't matter either.....she'll have grown out of it and be sporting head to toe black before you know it.

BeautifulBlondePineapple · 29/02/2012 13:45

I had the same problem with my 3 year old DS. All his plates, cups, books, tshirts etc had to be pink for well over a year. We just went with the flow and he eventually grew out of it. I'm sure your DD will too...although she may move onto purple or lilac!

SarahStratton · 29/02/2012 13:49

WTF, why is this a problem? Hmm

PosiePumblechook · 29/02/2012 13:50

?Same with my dd, now at five she wears lots of colours and even trousers!!!

ponyprincess · 29/02/2012 13:59

Yes, I remember the pink phase! It then turned into the not liking anything pink phase, and now has settled into the pink-is-just-another-colour phase. just let her wear pink and know that she will eventually like other colours too!

TroublesomeEx · 29/02/2012 14:13

OP, if it's not pink (or purple), glittery, sparkly or Disney Princess my DD isn't interested. I could ! Grin

I have it on good authority that as long as I go along with it now, she will grow out of it.

I don't buy the pink version of toys and she is most unimpressed that I got her a 'boys' trike a few years ago.

She refuses to wear jeans or anything that isn't going to make her "look beautiful". Although that doesn't mean she never wears other stuff, but she makes her feelings known.

Just grit your teeth and keep your head down, you'll come through the pink phase unscathed!

TroublesomeEx · 29/02/2012 14:14

Oh I hope we enter a "not liking anything pink phase", pony.

I really do!

Merrylegs · 29/02/2012 14:18

Ah, mine was the same. We even had a pink party for the third birthday - it was fab - pink presents, pink food, pink clothes.

He is 14 years old now and mostly wears blue. Or chinos.

TroublesomeEx · 29/02/2012 14:25

Oh Merrylegs I hope that's true!! Grin

chipmonkey · 29/02/2012 14:42

Don't worry, in a few years it'll be black, piercings and "I didn't ask to be born"

TroublesomeEx · 29/02/2012 15:17

Now black and piercings I can do!

chipmonkey · 29/02/2012 16:01

Oh, those genes will kick in sooner or later, wait and see!Grin

ImproperlyAcquainted · 29/02/2012 16:09

All my dcs have been obsessed with a colour at that age. They grow out of it in a couple of years. Unfortunately she has picked the colour that she/you will be slated for as its a 'girls colour' which automatically makes it shit.

TheFoosa · 29/02/2012 16:14

she'll grow out of it

do remember to tell friends and relatives when she does though, otherwise you will be receiving all many of pink items for years

Merrylegs · 29/02/2012 16:20

Mind you, DS1 spent the whole of his 3rd and 4th year dressed as a super hero - I mean ALL THE TIME. He had Batman, Spiderman and Superman and he would rotate the outfits - day and night. Was lovely - so easy. DS2 had literally no clothes as hand me downs - hence perhaps why he went down the pink path. (And it was a lovely path.)

chipmonkey · 29/02/2012 17:13

Merrylegs, my ds4 does that! He is usually a devil ( which he calls a superhero, hopefully Satanism not kicking in!) or a dragon. I like the dragon costume, at least it's warm!

BsshBossh · 29/02/2012 21:40

It's a phase. Just go with it. There are bigger battles to focus on. My DD became obsessed with pink when she turned 3 and became more aware of her peers and that she had choices. I've bought a variety of clothing in a variety of quite lovely shades of pink or with pink embroidery. She looks lovely, though pink isn't really "my thing". She'll grow out of it. Her once-pink-obsessed cousin is now a pre-teen goth!
