Irish Twins -any advice on coping?

Ok, well 14 months is what it's going to be. I posted something last week but only got a handful of replies. Either it's so horrendous that nobody wants me to know the truth or... well, what's it like? I'm due on the 15th Jan and have a very active 14mo boy who has started climbing onto high precarious objects, never sits still and thinks toys are for losers. He'd rather have a high voltage socket and wires to play with. So the idea of feeding quietly and going for long walks to help NB sleep is out of the question. Any counselling advice gratefully received. I have no family nearby and DH at work 0800-1900...

I've just realised I'm an Irish twin! I don't like the term though.

Best of luck though OP.

I don't know why anyone would get offended that years ago in ireland some people waited and registered their children born less than a year apart at the same time so were down on the registry as twins, although it wasn't done in other countries which is why they call it Irish twins.

I had a few (alot older) family members that were registered this way, nothing to do with being catholic, use of contraception etc

Realy there is no such thing as Irish twins any more as children are registered within 3 months of being born now

Just tested DH (Irish) on the Irish Twins phrase. He had never heard of it, but wasn't offended in any way.

OP, hope you are OK!

There is 13 months between my DC and although not planned I think it is a wonderful thing.

Routine is your key, but tbh whatever the age gap DC2 always has to fit into your established routine.

The thing I remember most about the early days is that DC1 got all the attention - I had been paranoid during my second pregnancy that DC1 would have her nose pushed out and I think everyone over compensated!

Life is fab now - they are so close in age that they have the same interests and whatever entertains one entertains the other.

Good luck. I have very fond memories of the baby stages and am a little bit Envy

My dp had never heard of the phrase either and he was born in Ireland, I wasn't my great great great grandparents were and it was their generation who had family members registered at the same time. So along time before contraception was available.
