DD2 is 2.9mths and 81cm tall. This puts her quite a bit below the 0.4th centile in her red book (she was just below at her 2yr check). I'm on the small side, as are my other 2 children, but based on this she's really little. I know it's not the worst thing in the world, but I also know it's not much fun being the smallest in your class. She's a pretty rubbish eater at the moment - grounds for hope when she improves, do you think?

Smallness of body isn't a problem; smallness of mind is.

You can quote me on that if need arises.

good line Grimma; perhaps we could add 'small body, big heart'?

I was really tiny as a child, probably until I was about 14. I loved it, and really played up to it Blush. I had everyone running round after me in the playground, and suspect that I got away with all sorts because I was so petite and looked a good few years younger than I was. I always did well at school though, including sports, so it didn't hold me back. And I'm not a teeny tiny adult (almost 5ft 2, so by no means tall but not stand-out dinky) - I just grew a bit later. I quite miss my noteably tiny status!

Can I join this thread too?

DS2 is 3.1 years and only 85 cm tall. He weighs around 11kg, so is really, really tiny. He does have a dairy allergy, which doesn't help and has had reflux from being around 6 months or so. He rarely eats voluntarily and now that schools in our area have moved to single point entry for each school year - he will be due to start school in september 2012!!! He's smaller than many 18 month olds!

Glad to hear about others with tiny dc's though. Sometimes it is really hard to not let it get you down. (OTOH ds1 has been on the 75th centile since birth and he has problems with being treated older than he is).

I was always the tallest and hated it. My dd is now 13months and people always think she's older and therefore think she's behind. Doesn't help that she's only just started crawling and not walking, so she looks a bit like an immobile, dumb two 1/2 year old. Never mind she's cute as a button!!

Aww my daughter is 4 next month and still wears 18-24 month clothes! She like a little dolly, everyone comments on how petite she is, I just smile!

She has tiny 7e feet, but she is fine! No one ever comments or says anything to her at nursery. I have struggled to find school uniform ready for September, but got it eventually!

Try not to worry, she will be fine!

DD has always hovered by the bottom shaded area on the centile chart and its certainly done her no harm. I think shes probably the smallest in her class.

She may be small but shes physically strong -she can out do anyone on the monkey bars and at a recent outdoor activities day with her Yr6 classmates she was by far the best at the activities that required upper body strength and flexibility.

A 10yr old friend of hers is much, much smaller than DD, is outstanding at ballet and is likely to get a scholarship (or whatever you call it) for a ballet school next year.
