Weird things your DC's were scared of as babies?

Discovered at the weekend that my 7.5 month old DS is petrified of plants! We were sat in my mums living room, where she has a potted Lily on the hearth, DS was crawling about as normal and his arm brushed the leaves and he physically cringed! I have never seen him crawl so fast away from something! Thought it had just made him jump but he kept going back and touching it then cringing away! Weird!!! Kinda funny though..... [bad mummy laughing at poor baby emoticon!] Grin

ds2 used to burst into tears every time Grandpa on Grandpa In My Pocket shrank, and also at the 'I am a shape!' shapes with legs on Mr Maker.

thornrose · 17/05/2011 20:49

I find these things funny too. I discovered my dd was scared of bubbles when she was a baby! Lovely innocent, pretty, floating bubbles Grin
She did the Shock face if one floated near her and then shivered.

Theyremybiscuits · 17/05/2011 20:50

My son was petrified of grass!

mysticsmeg · 17/05/2011 20:54

bottles! I only had to get her bottle out of the cupboard and she would start to cry. needless to say she never bloody drank from one.

Mummyloveskisses · 17/05/2011 20:57

My DS2 (14 months) doesn't like grass either.... really handy when having a picnic I take off his socks and shoes and he stays on the blanket Wink

He also hates the hoover...

SybilBeddows · 17/05/2011 21:12

LOL, that reminds me dd was scared of sand. She didn't like the way it ran through her fingers. That made our first trip to the seaside a bit of a flop I can tell you.

Rosemallow · 17/05/2011 21:15

DD is scared of TV characters going to sleep. She actually sobs.
She's also scared of ants.

Any other animal/creepy crawly - fine but she screamed when she saw ants!

SpawnChorus · 17/05/2011 21:17

DS2 absolutely freaked out when he first saw a party-bag toy. It "jittered" when you pulled its string and had rubbery tentacles.

Oh, and DS1 became terrified of the clock in our sitting room when he was about two, as I used to say "OMG look at the time! Come on we've got to GO!"

It took while for the penny to drop that he thought the clock I was pointing at was something that required fleeing from...fast!

MovingAndScared · 17/05/2011 21:19

DS2 -15 mo doesn't like cats - loves dogs - bursts into tears if our neighbour's cat gets too close

Bluebell99 · 17/05/2011 21:19

My ds kept saying there was a "scarey mouse" in his bedroom when he was about 2. We kept reassuring him that there was no scarey mouse. It was ages later that we realised he meant a Womble Orinocho soft toy on a high shelf in his room!

thornrose · 17/05/2011 21:21

Oh bless, to "scary mouse", imagine not being able to get that across to anyone.

RockThePots · 17/05/2011 21:21

Thornrose my dd is scared of bubbles too Grin

QOD · 17/05/2011 21:22

One of the health visitors.... she was very nice, but she had vitiligo and BIG hair. DD was a baby and obviously I couldn't reason with her...... the silly baby failed 2 hearing tests and got referred to a consultant as she was just NOT going to look in the direction of the HV.

She was actually very nice, but a bit scary personality wise too.... I felt awful. DD would just go rigid and not look her way.

Just to make her sound even more bonkers, she was also scared of dark haired women with glasses.

bamboobutton · 17/05/2011 21:23

dd is scared of anything being pushed: the hoover, broom, ds pushing his potty across the floor etc.

she screams bloody murder, crawls like the wind and climbs up my leg. ds has noticed this and now takes great delight in teasing her with the broom.

Annunziata · 17/05/2011 21:26

DS2 was terrified of hats.
DD1 hated trees because she loved Snow White and thought they were coming to get her.
DD2 thought the Christmas tree was a dinosaur.

Confused
prolificwillybreeder · 17/05/2011 21:26

Ah yes the evil Hoover! DS hates the hoover and the food processor and this VTech musical shape sorter rocket. He will hide behind me whenever it's turned on.
He is not frightened by any other musical toy though!

muminthecity · 17/05/2011 21:26

DD was terrified of Noo-Noo, the hoover on the Teletubbies. She used to freak out every time it came on the tv.

When she started pre-school they sent home a list of questions for me to ask DD and fill in on her behalf, kind of a get to know you thing. When I asked DD the question "What worries/frightens you?" She answered "Marshmallows!" Apparently they are disgusting, scary, squishy things Grin. She still hates them now, but can bare to be in the same room as them.

OldLadyKnowsNothing · 17/05/2011 21:32

DS2 was another one who didn't much care for sand, which was inconvenient as I lived very close to a beach. Interestingly, his DS1 doesn't like it either!

aStarInStrangeways · 17/05/2011 21:33

DS cries with fear every time Mr Pontipine's moustache flies off in a high breeze on ITNG. He also used to cry at the first sign of ponking, but seems to be getting over this now.

KatieMiddleton · 17/05/2011 21:38

DS was scared of grass for about 4 months when he was a year old. He hates stickers. And very briefly, and mortifyingly, Asian men. Which was particularly awkward because some very dear friends are Indian/Sri Lankan.

He did have an irrational love of (non-Asian) men with beards and once followed one round the V&A.

Spacey01 · 17/05/2011 21:45

My little one used to scream and cry as a baby when I changed the bin bag. I had to wait till she was asleep before I could put a new bin bag in the bin. Thankfully she has grown out of it now!!

piginmuck · 17/05/2011 21:56

ds1 used to cry hysterically at the end of Toy Story where the out-takes showed Mr.Potato Head.

Rosemallow · 17/05/2011 22:47

Astarinstrangeways - DD also cried at the mr pontipine moustache episode. Everytime it flew off she wailed!

AngelDog · 17/05/2011 23:44

Tape being torn off a parcel.

Light coming around the edge of the blackout blinds on our Velux windows. Confused At 12 months he simply couldn't go to sleep if I'd left the window on the catch and would go mental if I left him in the room with the blinds half closed, even in the daytime. (He was happy enough going to sleep with the curtains open on the other window though.)

MumblingRagDoll · 17/05/2011 23:47

Ah DD2 is afrid of seaweed. DD1 chases her with it, Sad Grin
