Rebbecca My oldest, now 3. Her first Word was Biccy. Being an avid baker, i made a lot of Biccy's so it was no suprise when she made grabby notions with her hands and demanded a Biccy. Slightly disapointed as i had hoped her first word would be mum. I came to be thankful that with my cooking obsession she ate at all!
What was your childs first word?

When he was 4 months old he said "Cla!" Never since. I maintain to all who take the piss that this was his first word. He's only 7 months old now, mind, so plenty of time for that all crucial second word to appear. Smile

When reading your response. I'm instantly reminded of GLEEBA from friends :P

My Ds said 'More' and Tractor about 2 years of age.

GKlimt · 19/04/2011 15:46

''Go, go''. At 9 months, if buggy was deemed to be stationary for too long

dribbleface · 19/04/2011 15:52

flower was DS's first word, very odd

noko · 19/04/2011 15:55

my ds said mumy mumy around 2

BristolJim · 19/04/2011 15:55

DD's was 'dada' round about 12 months. I had been practicing with her for about two months though!

theghostofposhlymanor · 19/04/2011 15:56

hiya

TurtlesAreRetroRight · 19/04/2011 15:57

'Dada', appropriately and in context at 7 months or so. She was talking pretty fluently a few months later and hasn't shut up since.

My first word was 'helicopter' apparently. I was a precocious tit it would seem.

CokeFan · 19/04/2011 16:09

DD said "bye bye" and "wiggle wiggle wiggle" pretty early on. She also said "apple" really clearly, which is odd because she doesn't like apples.

She didn't say mummy for ages - more something like "mimi". On my birthday, when she was about 21 months old, she said "mama". Ahh, I thought, she's finally got it, but then I realised she was pointing behind me... at the cinema.

Ormirian · 19/04/2011 16:09

DS1 - 'Dada'
DD - 'burger' (oh the shame!)
DS2 'dog'

SpotsMumSally · 19/04/2011 17:54

DS - Mama
DD - Dada

Did you have a certain toy caterpillar CokeFan?
Lol @ burger!

albania · 19/04/2011 17:58

I can't remember Blush

bruffin · 19/04/2011 18:07

DS- hot!
DD - shoes!

CokeFan · 19/04/2011 18:21

SpotsMumSally - no, no caterpillar toy. No idea where "wiggle wiggle wiggle" came from. She's just weird. Smile

smokinaces · 19/04/2011 18:28

DS1 said Mama/Dada - both the same day so as to not offend either of us Wink was about 8m I think?
DS2 said TA. I was busy chatting in the kitchen to a friend whilst holding his lunch and he obviously got very impatient and reached out for it saying "Ta". Was about 11months old.

smokinaces · 19/04/2011 18:29

CokeFan, I am still Mimi to DS2 at 37 months. He can say Mummy, but prefers to call me Mimi.

sancerrre · 19/04/2011 18:41

"Google" at about 3 months. I think its a sign I spend too much time on the internet.

The3Bears · 19/04/2011 18:44

Dada I was so annoyed as I was the one who was with him 24/7 drumming mama into him Grin

prolificwillybreeder · 21/04/2011 10:49

Dada at about 8 months I think.
Will say Mama at 10 months if I have food he wants

Chundle · 21/04/2011 11:02

Dd1 dada
Dd2 shoes!

Rugbylovingmum · 21/04/2011 11:53

DDs first word was 'wazzat', used regularly while pointing at random objects. She did sign where, duck and monkey before that. I hoped mama might be next but she managed dada, hiya and peppa weeks before even attempting mummy!

EllenJane1 · 21/04/2011 12:55

DS 1 said 'uh' for up at 20 months. He had very delayed speech.

DS 2 said 'square' followed closely by 'circle' at 2. He has ASD. Smile

DS 3 could count to 10 before he could say much else. Also a bit geeky!

CharlotteBronteSaurus · 21/04/2011 13:03

dd1, 9mo : "cat". shortly followed by "dad". I had to wait another 5months for "mummy". and that tells you all you need to know about the pecking order in this house.

abeautifulbutterfly · 21/04/2011 13:08

DD1 tata (= dada in Polish)
DD2 ra-ra meaning round and round (she was absolutely captivated by anything that went round and round, e.g. washing machine, wheels, a mobile she had, hands on a toy clock)
