Kids are so sweet when learning to talk

Think it's about time for a new thread about funny/lovely/cute things the DCs say when they are learning to talk Smile.

This is prompted by DS (18m) who has been on single words up to now, but has suddenly decided to start stringing words together. This morning after his waking breastfeed he pulled off and said "All gone" there was a slight pause, then a rather hopeful "Puddin?" Grin

Then we heard DPs car starting outside and DS said his first 3 word sentence "Daddy gone work". Bless.

Then at breakfast he asked for "more water"

He's never going to shut up now is he? Grin

I remember my daughter saying

Mine cot. Baby out when she was 22 months old Grin. She started talking really young and hasn't stopped .

nickelbaalamb · 19/04/2011 15:02

tis sweet. Grin

especially when they surprise you by sounding sooo grown up when they construct sentences!

ceebeegeebies · 19/04/2011 15:05

My DS2 (who is 2 1/2) so may not qualify for this thread as he is not really learning to talk Wink kept asking me 'to put the lid on' whilst he was washing his hands at the sink yesterday. I had no idea what he was talking about until he pointed at the plug and he wanted me to put the plug in Grin I thought that was quite cute!

Also, he refers to DS1 as his 'budder' (brother) which is kind of cute too Smile

Just went for a spin on the bike with 22 month old son in a child seat on the back. He called out "I'm on my scooter, neh, neh, neh, neh, neh" and "hello everybody" with a jolly wave all the way.

'Twas cute Grin.

PaganOfBologna · 19/04/2011 20:37

Ahh bless Rosebud, what a cheery soul!

ongakgak · 19/04/2011 20:40

My DS (he is 2.3m) and I went to the shops to get some things for dinner, and he says-

"And me, mummy, little treat?" I say
"Oh really?" he says
"yes, my little treat, little eggs. One...long pause, holds fingers up to mouth, Two eggs please?"

I never give him mini eggs, made me laugh a lot at his very specific request!

I gave my DD cheese on toast with sweetcorn the other week, when I put the plate down she said "peas mama... lellow peas". Sweetcorn will be 'lellow peas' in our house for a long time to come!f :)

cottonreels · 27/04/2011 16:40

my 18m dd says atchoo and presses your nose - shell even do it to the cat!
She also says shoes - which shes obsessed with... a lady in the making Grin

Tee2072 · 27/04/2011 16:42

While walking down the street my son goes 'whhhhheeeeeee'. He's obviously having fun! Which is great, since we don't have a car.

He's 22 months and doesn't talk much yet. I am sure he is going to wake up one day and say 'Good morning mother, may I have some milk please?' Grin

noblegiraffe · 27/04/2011 20:01

I heard a pitiful 'Bear, stuck!' coming from the cot of my 20 month old in the middle of the night. What he actually meant was 'Please rescue me, my bear has toppled over and is on my head and I can't get him off'. :)

TheOriginalFAB · 27/04/2011 20:03

That is adorable noblegiraffe Grin.

I have a nephew who at Christmas kept on repeating 'i saw Farmer Crispin at gravy boup' translated as I saw Father Christmas at Baby Group. Can't wait for my dd to start talking.

DamnItJanet · 27/04/2011 20:26

DD is almost 2 and talks quite well she say's "Daddy at work" and then pretends to cry.
Today she learnt a new one and said "Max in the garden" and then said it about 20 times looking really pleased that she has managed it. Grin

ginmakesitallok · 27/04/2011 20:30

DD2 (18m) just has a few key words now - she dashes round the house after her bath shouting for her "dirry dum, dirry dum?". Other key words are Mummy and Daddy (obviously Smile, juice, bath and sweetie Blush. When DD1 was learning to talk she had the most beautiful sweet voice - except when she was calling for me when she turned into a 70 year old, 80 a day, 16 stone old man with a shout of "MAAAWWWWW", her first sentence was "Datsanotaminamaw" Translated - "That's not my monster"

Flisspaps · 27/04/2011 20:32

DD is 13mo. This morning she was babbling away in her cot. Then I heard her say clearly - twice - "Oh bugger, Daddy!" [cshock] [cgrin]

CrystalQueen · 27/04/2011 20:37

My DD, 2.6 (a bit of a slow talker) says "bye bye up" when we go downstairs then "hi down" when we get to the bottom.

jbells · 27/04/2011 20:40

My dd has just turned 24 months snd has just recently started putting wods togetha the other day we bought her a microfone on a stand my mum step dad nan and grandad were round here the first time we got it out to show her she startwd making humming noises and then everyone clapped so she thoufht it was great and did it a few times showing iff with her mouth pressed against the mic... Then out of nowhere she sed twinkle twinkle star and clapped her hands and looked at everyone she had never sed this b4 i cud of cried :)

Also the otha day she sed juice gone more straight to the point lol. I cant wait till i can have conversations with her she only had about 5 words till.the age of 21 months

Preggersplayspop · 27/04/2011 20:42

My ds2 has a few words but some a bit indistinct at the moment. He does say Cog-cog though, which we figured out is chocolate Blush

itstheyearzero · 27/04/2011 20:42

Ah love these threads. DS who is 2.4 regularly asks for Daddy or Mummy duddles (cuddles), how can we refuse? Oh and he makes up what I call word salads, so because Tom in Fireman Sam flies a helicopter, it's a Tommycopter (said with much gusto!) and a muddy puddle is a 'muddle'. Grin

PorcelinaOfTheVastOceans · 27/04/2011 20:44

DD is one on friday (wedding day!)
she throws the balls for the dogs, and says 'teddy...BO!' instead of 'ready...GO!'
she also sings along with the first whoa-oh-oh part to Blush

bilblio · 27/04/2011 21:15

All these are so cute.
DD is 3.9 Huge vocabulary, but real issues with particular sounds. Ironic as I'm a speech therapy assistant. I'm not worried though as it's gradually improving and I had problems at her age too... I'll be quite sad when she speaks "properly", it makes her sound very cute and a lot younger than she is... even if she is slightly unintelligible at times. :o

The really obvious one is that she can't say c sounds, they're all t. So her friend Kobi sounds like Toby, that caused a huge argument when she was telling me something about him and I kept calling him Tobi. "No Mummy, Tobi!"

The other day my jaw hit the floor when I heard what she was saying.... until I realised she was singing "Five little ducks" but it really didn't sound like they were saying "Quack Quack Quack Quack" Shock :o

trixie123 · 27/04/2011 22:19

we get "cuggle" (cuddle) closely followed by requests for "cake" from DS (21 months). Milk is "ack" and all hot drinks are "TEEEAAA". All hot food is "tato" and he can say "peese" very sweetly when prompted. ridiculously cute. Smile
