I'm interested to hear good and bad reviews of the Bumbo. I'm thinking of buying one for my ds, 7 mos. Many thanks in advance!

someone please answer! I want to know too.

A friends has one and never uses it becuase although her dd (7 ths) sits well on the floor, she is quite a small baby and gets a bit lost in it. Her dd just bends double over the middle bit and gets stuck. I think they work well for bigger babies though. The foamy material they're made of does seem really comfy. They're not much use after about 10 months because most babies want to escape.

bobsmum · 16/09/2003 23:44

That's 7 months.

prufrock · 17/09/2003 08:19

DD loved hers - but it doesn't last long. We used it from about 4 months to 9 months and it was wonderful to allow her to sit up without slipping down into piles of cushions.

codswallop · 17/09/2003 08:24

i woulde reckon shes too old

Agree with prufrock. Ours was brilliant from about 3.5 months to about 8 months. She could sit well enough to do without it then. It was great for that 5 months though, I found it very useful for chucking in the car to take to friends houses and it meant the baby could sit 'on the floor' while dd1 and I did puzzles etc so she felt more included. I have since leant it to two very grateful friends, but I would say that buying one at 7 months wouldnt be worth it.

My friend told me to get one cos it had helped her to keep dd in one place after she'd learnt to crawl until about 11 months.

We still use ours a bit - mostly on Saturday and Sunday mornings for family breakfast in bed - I know you shouldn't, but we pop ds (8mnths) in it on the bed to cut down on weetabix coverage of our duvet.

So I agree, they're great, but shortlived. Borrow one if you can.

MumOfLeo · 17/09/2003 21:02

thanks, everyone, for the advice! I'm not going to get the Bumbo, as it wouldn't be used long enough to justify the price. Thanks for saving me the money!

you can buy us all a drink with the loot

jedy · 18/09/2003 14:20

how expensive is it? ds is 6 and crawls but can sit only for a while because isn't quiet enough to concentrate on balance- keeps jumpimg and reaching for things, lands on the floor again. i like the idea of bringing it to the toddler group but doesn't it slow down the learning to sit?

fisil · 18/09/2003 18:04

Are you desperate for him to learn to sit? Surely he will when he's ready anyway?

codswallop · 18/09/2003 18:43

20 odd quid. i wouldnt bother now. They have them on e bay sometimes.

jedy · 18/09/2003 20:41

well, i suppose he will. thanks cods

Verridian · 08/02/2007 22:46

Has anyone else found their 6m could throw themsevles over the side-landing on their face? This was an awful shock when this happened-i felt like worst mum ever but it happened in an instant and i didnt have a chance to catch him. so lots of crying and a fat lip for a day. Not so keen on it now as i can literally not take my eye off him for one sec..

Verridian · 08/02/2007 22:47

I guess i may be ebaying one soon......!

AitchTwoOh · 08/02/2007 22:50

yep, my dd could arch her back and tip it over. i think they're really dangerous, dd hated hers.

hana · 08/02/2007 22:58

i used one for dd2 - she couldn't sit up unsupported til about 10 months, so it was fab for that. (feedingher) never tipped it over that I remember, she was v diddy

chocolatelovehearts · 08/02/2007 22:59

No

mozhe · 08/02/2007 23:12

They are great for twins,( mine 9 months, and not sitting unaided yet ), and my nanny especially swears by them. Very useful when you aare trying to ' round up ' the three big brothers and get everyone into their coats etc. Also sits them in them on top of table,( vast table, seats 18....so safe if put in the middle imo...but probably not recommended by ' health n' safety' lot !), whilst brothers do art and craft/play games etc. hadn't discovered them with ' singletons ' but imagine they are useful too...

hana · 08/02/2007 23:17

no, don't put them on a table!!
not worht the risk unless you are rihgt beside them!

Twinklemegan · 08/02/2007 23:19

My 6 month old can get out of his (we borrowed one btw).

GillL · 09/02/2007 13:19

We borrowed one from a friend and it was really useful for a few months. Dd wouldn't let me go anywhere without her so I found it particularly useful when I went in to any room with a hard floor i.e. if I had just put her on the floor she could have fallen backwards and hurt her head.
