Mine will be 16 months, 3 and 4.9 at Xmas. Struggling for ideas but just seen a 'my first scaletrix' which I thought might be good for the older two.

for ds last year when he was 14mths we got the little people garage and the musical thomas the tank..both still a big hit a year on.

Gobbledispook · 16/10/2005 10:41

I'm really struggling because with 2 older boys we have nearly all the things that might be suitable for ds3. There seems little point getting him much but obviously I won't get him nothing!!

Ds (will be 3 by then), is having Postman pat train, Thomas aqua draw, Bob vehicles, Wooden elc garage, Big tractor and trailer, Thomas train set.

Thats not all of us though, the garage and tractor are off my brother and dad.

Gobbledispook · 16/10/2005 10:42

Oh the aquadraw is meant to be good isn't it?

Nemo666 · 16/10/2005 10:43

aqua draw is good..ds loves his.

Ds will be 2.2this xmas and we have got him a wooden pirate ship and a keyboard from elc.

Gobbledispook · 16/10/2005 10:47

Ds1 has asked for a pirate ship but I don't know if it's just cos he saw it on the TV and he'll ask for something different next week!

Nemo666 · 16/10/2005 10:51

i picked up the pirate ship on ebay for £20 including postage and its brand new.

nutcackle · 16/10/2005 10:54

Wow thats good Nemo, bargain.

I have the prob that you have with my girls Gobble, dd2 always asks for stuff that dd1 has already got.

soapbox · 16/10/2005 10:56

GDG - my DS had the first scaletrix a few years ago and it was never played with - that might just be him, but it may not!

Playmobil was always the favorite present - lego and knex a close second. Knex now do a bigger version suitable for slightly younger children.

Mine has played a lot with pirate ships of various sorts - the playmobile one haslasted well. In fact he still plays a lot with the pirates.

For the 16 month old Boots have a few nice new toys for younger ones that maybe weren't around when your others were littler.

spidermama · 16/10/2005 10:57

For the five year old ...
Remote control car.
Rugby strip and ball.
Will investigate aqua draw.

The 3 year old ds would love nothing more than princess outfits and high shoes, but I'm not sure I can oblige due to public pressure. Maybe a sneaky lip gloss would surfice.

For the 8 month old, very little. He won't care and there's plenty of stuff around from the other three.

soapbox · 16/10/2005 10:58

I think aqua draw is more suitable for younger children. I bought DS one last year when he was 4 and he only played with it once!

Went to the chariddee shop a couple of weeks ago!

Gobbledispook · 16/10/2005 11:19

Soapbox - I thought they might play with the scaletrix together since there are two of them they can actually race. I know what you mean though - my brothers had one and it never got played with either. Hmmmm.

Playmobil does sound very popular - it's quite expensive though isn't it?

M&S have some nice little meccano construction things - a little plane and a bike and I think they are only £5 so good stocking filler.

jambuttie · 16/10/2005 11:21

power ranger masks, drum kit, turtles castle, loads more

twins got tv/dvd combi, trikes, keyboards loads more.

we went to bigw yesterday got everthing on santas list and some and saved about £300 honestly pay it a visit

jambuttie · 16/10/2005 11:22

oh yeah we got scaletrix too, £60 from argos but you get 2 items free with it

Gobbledispook · 16/10/2005 11:24

I'm not gonig that mad! I bought way too much last year and I've learned my lesson!

Tbh I'd rather spend more money on a really good outdoor toy (big climbing frame or trampoline) in the summer.

soapbox · 16/10/2005 11:31

I'm with you GDG - also by the time they get showered with pressies from Grannies aunty's etc mine have way too much anyway. I'm sticking to 3 or 4 well chosen pressies which will get played with well

Gobbledispook · 16/10/2005 11:37

Me too.

My ds (who will be 8 in Jan) will be getting bionicle playset, dragonz playset, game cube games, and lots of other bits and pieces

colditz · 16/10/2005 12:51

1 de, age 2.6 now, will be 2.8 at Christmas, will be getting bits and bobs, and re-receiving the Thomas The Tank Engine train set he got last year and stamped on for 3 days, before we took it away. Not that he noticed.

colditz · 16/10/2005 12:52

I think the Thomas aquadraw looks brilliant

frannykenstein · 16/10/2005 13:05

Ds, 2.5 is getting the Playmobil dustcart (eBay), various Neurosmith music toys (eBay), a bongo style drum that he has coveted for ages, and lots of books and tapes from eBay. I am so glad he is too young to know or care if things are second hand. Makes me feel a lot less guilty about buying loads of stuff for him.

Spidermama, mine wants a hairdryer and girls world type styling head thing! I am wavering between embarrassment and indulgence. I'm surprised at you bowing to public pressure - get him a princess outfit, g'wan.

Tortington · 16/10/2005 13:32

a bike for one and bike bits for another - hes into modifying his bike at the mo

mrsflowerpot · 16/10/2005 13:38

DS (4.5) is getting Geomag and the batmobile, both of which he is desperate for and then books and a stocking. Am not going over the top this year. He's also desperate for the lego pirate ship, but I have had enough of 'special' lego that has to be kept separate from the normal stuff so I am being a mean mummy with that one. The M&S building kits sound good, will have a look for those I think.

Had also considered scalextrix but I just don't think he'd play with it enough. (I think it is secretly more for dads tbh.)

BTW, ds still uses his aquadraw quite a bit - we're finding it good for practising letters etc as it's such a big expanse (and the mistakes fade away!).

gigglinggoblin · 16/10/2005 13:54

we got the scalextric deal from argos last year jambuttie, the hot wheels thing and the scalextric are both a big hit. havent got round to playing with the remote control car yet tho (but they dont know about it). problem with scalextric is having space to leave it out or time to put it together when they want to play with it. it does last a long time tho, the grandchildren might like it

JoolsToo · 16/10/2005 14:41

I'll be buying everyone a Post Office Set
