I prefer to screech. Yelling is for wimps.

auntymandy · 16/10/2005 08:40

I know i say awful things too. Mine are teenagers so they often give as good as they get!!When I hear them shout at each other i do wonder if its my fault!!

I don't usually shout at dd, but I did on Friday night. I was shocked at myself, and half expected dd to be so startled that she might burst into tears. She barely blinked.....

misdee · 16/10/2005 08:42

'ITS NOT FAIR' [shrug] what can u say to a 5yr old who says that? (i dont yell at her then ,but she is 5, its gonna get worse isnt it?)

auntymandy · 16/10/2005 08:47

On the subject of shouting: When dd shouts at me, and stamps her foot, I sometimes have an almost uncontrollable desire to burst out laughing. Of course, I don't hide it very well and it makes dd even angrier! Anyone else have that impulse?

misdee · 16/10/2005 08:56

well i've got 8years to prepare then.

auntymandy · 16/10/2005 09:03

OP posts:

Boy do I shout.

Have to say it's ineffective though - when I'm being rational and I address them in a calm but firm voice that is not raised, it actually works better.

Sometimes, you just lose it though and all you can do is shout! Perfectly normal!

auntymandy · 16/10/2005 09:10

Yes explaining in a calm way has more affect or ignoring them, but yes we shout!

eidsvold · 16/10/2005 10:33

misdee - my 2 dd's get at each other now - and they are only 3 and 11 months - can't wait till they are stroppy teenage girls arguing over clothes, CD's makeup, boys, the phone etc!!!!

eidsvold · 16/10/2005 10:34

Oh and yes I do shout.. I sometimes mimic dd1 when she is going off and it makes her laugh which can defuse the situation.

coppertop · 16/10/2005 10:43

When I'm tired I mutate into the screaming harridan from hell.

nutcackle · 16/10/2005 10:44

I have just yelled 'STOP SHOUTING', up the stairs to mine

Weatherwax · 16/10/2005 11:59

I do that all the time nutcackle!

I have however developed this maniacal smile where I swallow all the screaming. I have pointed out to dd1 that when she sees this she is to treat me like an unexploded bomb. Armed and dangerous. And she needs to tread very carefully. Its a while since the bomb went off but dd2 seems to be working on it.
