OK I have a 4 year old boy and have recently had a girl. My boy is asking questions about her lady-bits and I'm not sure what to refer to them as....
'Fanny' seems a bit crass, 'vaj' a bit cheap, etc etc you get my drift. Any suggestions on names for this body part gratefully recieved!

my friend (mother of 4 girls) calls lady bits 'mary'! not sure if thats one you'd consider!!?

pantaloons · 23/01/2011 21:01

They are fairies around here, but we tend to just say bottom to cover the whole lot.

4boyzmum · 23/01/2011 21:09

what about 'foo' - think ive heard it referred to as that as well. got me thinking that that is something we've never really given a special name to in our house! it was just known as 'mummys winky'!!

janx · 23/01/2011 21:09

dd likes to call them lady bits - have heard tinkle which sounded quite sweet

janx · 23/01/2011 21:09

But isn't there a book called foo foo about a very naughty rabbit?

medoitmama · 23/01/2011 21:10

My DDs have minis.
Foo foos seem popular too!
Think it's important to have a name for it as gives a bad message if it is "unspeakable" imo.

beanlet · 23/01/2011 21:12

Front bottom in our household (three sisters), but I do like lady-bits. Quite elegant.

When we were a bit older we used proper names cos dad was a biologist.

mylifewithstrangers · 23/01/2011 21:12

Girls have minkies and boys have winkies here

BarbieLovesKen · 23/01/2011 21:12

We just say private area.

LadyOfTheFlowers · 23/01/2011 21:13

Twinks and tidgers in this house. :o

shinyshoes · 23/01/2011 21:13

foof
foo foo
chuff

moo
vajayjay

MoChan · 23/01/2011 21:14

We say 'vulva'. Because that's what it is...

LadyInPink · 23/01/2011 21:15

DD has always called hers her "lulu" Grin

hpsaucy · 23/01/2011 21:16

Mine use 'min-min', which I think is quite sweet. It was fanny when I was a kid, which now seems v dated and seventies :o

DD1 knows all the proper terms, but still prefers to use min-min.

Anything but 'front bottom' which conjures up a very disturbing image!

PlentyOfParsnips · 23/01/2011 21:22

We've always said fanny in our house. I don't think it's crass ... fanny and willy ... I think they're friendly, widely understood terms. They were taught the 'proper' names too, but I think they sound a bit medical for everyday use. It's a bit like the difference between abdomen and tummy.

Catsmamma · 23/01/2011 21:23

i like bajingo!

...stolen from Scrubs

if dd has a short skirt on i tell her her fairy is on show.

ShowOfHands · 23/01/2011 21:26

Fear of the name only increases fear of the thing itself.

It's a vulva.

Do you call arms reachygrabgrabs or lips kissymceaties?

onimolap · 23/01/2011 21:28

Do your children wee and poo, or urinate and defecate?

I've taught proper names, but it's willy and bits for day to day.

MoChan · 23/01/2011 21:29

Grin at ShowOfHands.

MrsNoggin · 23/01/2011 21:33

Noonie (sp?!).

As in a shortened version of the somewhat crass punnani (once again sp?!). It's a lovely cute gentle word, but everyone sees to get the drift when DD says it.

libelulle · 23/01/2011 21:36

We asked a friend who is a local primary school teacher what term the kids use and went with that - mini round here apparently. Decided that no point in using a word that no-one else understands. Luckily mini for me strays just on right side of twee.

4boyzmum · 23/01/2011 21:37

cant imagine using the 'grown up' names for them with little ones tho!! ive 4 boys and wouldnt have ever thought to call their winkys a penis.....not cos of any sense of fear - my lads are all extremely comfortable, confident and educated about their bodies. but simply cos winky sounds nicer!!

PlentyOfParsnips · 23/01/2011 21:47

Do you call arms reachygrabgrabs or lips kissymceaties?

No, but I don't call them brachial limbs and facial labia either Grin
