tis very sweet. cold is "brrr", sleep is "ish". Move out of the way is "mummy beep beep" . She understands everything and is stringing her words together in 3-4 word sentences.I'm just a bit concerened that she just does not speak the words she hears.

I think those words are incredibly cute. Cherish them while she uses them - they soon disappear for the 'real' words. x

Nagoo · 11/01/2011 10:13

Mine did that. He's a very verbose 3 year old. She is very young still. You'll be sad when she stops getting words 'wrong'.

I lost comput-E-ur last week and now I've only got radi-gator left Sad

mascarpone · 11/01/2011 10:15

Mine did this! She is now 4 and too chatty very eloquent. I didn't correct her, just kept saying the right words back. So if she said 'mummy brr', I would say 'Oh it is cold isn't it, you're right' etc etc

Actually I miss some of those words now she doesn't say them - aggersmeen (magazine) and sertree (conservatory) and goggies (I had no idea what this meant but she said it alot!)

maktaitai · 11/01/2011 10:17

NOOO it's not a problem, it's magic! That's what humans do, it's amazing and creative! If she just said what she heard back again, she'd be a tape machine. Anyway, she IS saying what she hears, she's heard all those sounds from you guys, she's just mixing it up and making her own words and sentences, it's the magic of language development, there is NOTHING like it!

FooffyShmoofer · 11/01/2011 10:22

It's fine they are so funny and cute and one day you will look back and think about when DD said such and such and it will make you smile.

When DS was behaving a bit nuts he would say he was being Wonkers.

The wrinkles on DHs forehead when he pulled a certain face were Daddy's Glunkies. Not a clue where that came from.

witchwithallthetrimmings · 11/01/2011 10:25

thanks everybody, my favourite is actually when she asks for "a bit more E" (meaning bm) like some late eighties throwback!

ds did that.
don't worry he is 18 now and uses "real" words

Plumm · 11/01/2011 10:36

She'll drop them soon and you'll miss them. We had:

Gucky = bird
Wat ca ca = watering can
Mimi = dummy
Ook ook = Iggle Piggle

Nagoo · 11/01/2011 10:40

Plumm, gucky was breakfast in my house.

smashingtime · 11/01/2011 11:21

I love the words they make up - write them down tis lovely to look back on them when they are older Smile

wonderstuff · 11/01/2011 11:24

I think sometimes dd's words are better - trampoline is a bouncyline - much better description Smile

CatIsSleepy · 11/01/2011 11:27

aaaaaah
for some reason dd2 calls her cardigan a carky, and when she's finished her milk she says 'minished'-she's got us all saying that now
for ages dd1 couldn't say conditioner but would say dishinka....we still say that sometimes too.
it's nice, enjoy it while it lasts!

Chandon · 11/01/2011 11:27

my DC did this, and I have forgotten them all...

Wish I'd written them down, doesn't last long and so cute!

My DD won't say tiger or lion, she calls them 'roars'.

My favourite is elshump.

DD: Look elshump.
Me: Elshump?
DD: No, elshump!
Me: Whats an elshump - can you show me?
DD: ELSHUMP!
Me (pretending to understand): Oh an elshump!
DD (increasingly irate): NO NOT ELSHUMP. ELSHUMP!!!!
Me (penny eventually drops): Oh an elephant!
DD (exasperated at stupid mother): Yes, elshump!!

jacquiel · 11/01/2011 11:36

love it!
my dd couldnt say her own name! katy was taty (and that was in nursery too...)

Elk · 11/01/2011 11:43

It is lovely when they make up there own words, I miss them now. My favourite was dd1 saying alligator instead of escalator, that lead to a lot of funny looks in shops. She also called wheelbarrows wheelbadgers.

Grumpyoldhorsewoman · 11/01/2011 11:44

I love made up words and was loath to correct them. Hence DD1 went to school still calling plums 'Klums' and our friend David was ever known as 'Pear' (we were never really sure why, but think it may have been from the time he was identifying fruit trees with her)

EauRouge · 11/01/2011 11:46

My DD used to say 'hannet' for elephant, I can't figure that one out at all. Mimi used to be banana but she can say mana now or sometimes mamamamamana Grin

Wheelbadgers is brilliant!

boyscomingoutofmyears · 11/01/2011 11:47

Ooooh so cute! I agree, absolutely nothing wrong, just the wonders of languauge development.

Ds1 has language difficulties and is just reaching this stage at 8yo and i'm taking it as a positive sign that he's progressing. Hearing him saying fooroo (his brother's name)Dake (other brother's name) and mukky (monkey) is fantastic and makes me weep!

Ds2 used kiki for blanket and alf for the care lables on his blankets (he used to stroke them for comfort) who knows where they came from!

WishIWasRimaHorton · 11/01/2011 11:51

my DS used to call giraffes 'necks'. was a sad day indeed when he said giraffe for the first time.

Breakfast was 'beddus' for years to us all, only DD now calls it brufus, and DS has started saying that instead.

She can't say DS's name (Jacob) so calls him Daddoo, which is confusing to everyone else because they think she is saying Daddy.

Tis magical indeed.

WishIWasRimaHorton · 11/01/2011 11:52

but at least hippo is still hippomopotamous Grin

hels71 · 11/01/2011 13:27

Myy DD used to ask for mordit on her toast rather than marmalade!!

Katz · 11/01/2011 13:32

trampolines in our house will be forever know a bounceolines, i loved this stage

twirlymum · 11/01/2011 13:46

Gherkins are known as berkins in our house, thanks to DS. And they always will be now Grin
Ambulance was amsibence, but he can say it properly now Sad
