What age did your child stop using the buggy?

My daughter is 3 years 3 months old and she still likes to sit in her buggy?

I saw someone mention on a thread some time ago, that this is not the done thing at her age? Blush

So am I indulging her and letting her be a lazy madam, or is there nothing wrong with it!

sorry ignore the 'dog' at the bottom, I was trying, and failing Blush to get my cross out words thing working

wedgeiit I think you need to get yr almost 4yo to a stage where he can walk for 15 mins.

That's less than a mile. What's going on if we think that an NT 4yo can't walk a mile?

Maybe he won't walk well holding yr hand atm - but if you don't get him to do it, when will he? That's what I always wonder.

DS1 switched from buggy to buggy board at 2.8, still uses the board at 3.10 as he is not a great long-distance walker and I haven't managed to get him using a scooter yet.

DS2 is 20m and would happily never get in the buggy again, if he was my only DC I'm sure we'd have ditched it by now, however it's chaos trying to walk far with the two of them (never mind trying to carry bags etc as well) so I do force put him in the buggy when we have to cross roads or get anywhere on time!

I'm hoping that in September, when DS1 will be starting school and DS2 starting playschool (in the same place), I'll be able to get them both using scooters and ditch the buggy altogether (hallelujah) - they'll be 4.7 and 2.6.

I meant by September not in September - plan to get them both microscooters at the beginning of the summer hols and lose the buggy then.

Clary - my DD CAN walk a mile or 15 mins. However, circumstances are such that she struggles to walk 1.25 miles (on hilly terrain), do 6.5hrs of preschool (with no nap) and then walk home again

I know your comment wasn't to me, but i really think comments like that judge everyone using buggies for 4+. Everyone at DD's preschool is amazed we walk (due to terrain and distance) but I can only do it with the buggy, so DD1 can hop in and out. We cannot use a bike or scooter so have really limited options

Crispy - if buggies suit you and your DCs then use them. You will meet people who have opinions about everything that other parents do, and it's best just to let them pull their cats bum mouths and get on with life.

dd2 is 4 and a bit and if it was expedient I's pop her in the buggy, dd1 would still be in one now if she could and she's nearly 7! I think it's a bit competitive parenting tbh and a bit of the obsession of making small children behave like adults (sit for ages in restaurants etc). Let them be, I'm sure you are sensible enough to make sure your children are getting enough exercise!

Plonker · 02/01/2011 12:11

Dd1 was 3yrs 3months (when dd2 was born).

Dd2 was around 2, but to be fair was a very lively child with lots of energy to burn off.

Dd3 was 2yrs 5 months - she got a balance bike (best thing since sliced bread!)

Stopped with my first child at 3.5 yrs old, mainly because I was expecting a second baby and really didn't want to have to get a double buggy. I used it loads while pregnant, though, as was handy for keeping my unruly DS in one place and hanging my shopping off in my tired, preggo state Grin. DS was (is) an enormous child, though, and looked about 5 at that age. I used ot get lots of funny looks, but have never really given a shit about what random judgy pants think of me, so not a problem Wink

DD is 2 yrs 2 mths and has pretty much stopped using hers, now. She just won't get into it and cries her eyes out if I try. It's not a big deal for me, because she is in nursery five days a week, we have a car, and she isn't called on to walk long distances during the week. If I had her every day and had to take her shopping with me etc, then I would be a lot more reluctant to give the buggy up.
