Bra for a 12 year old with NO boobs

My gorgeous skinny totally flat chested daughter has asked for a bra. Reckons shes the only one in her year not wearing one and is embarrased getting changed in pe. I asked her if all of the other girls had boobs and she said most but not all of them, but apparantly they're all wearing bras anyway! At her request we got her some 'cropped' top type vests last year but this is now not enough, so what do i do? She;s my eldest and i'm ashamed to say i've not looked at any bras as I reckoned she had ages before she;d need one! I dont feel a bit stupid and a really bad parent for not having researched this already!!

take her to marks and spencers and buy the smallest one you can find?

SkippyjonJones · 29/09/2010 20:45

Gap crop tops you can get them online they are very comfortable my oldest two both wear them.

SkippyjonJones · 29/09/2010 20:46

Oh sorry you said that was not enough I agree with thisisyesterday then.

Having said that a bra is going to look a bit odd if you really don't need one as they are shaped. Couldn't you go for a more bra shaped crop top. There are tons of styles around.

You can get triple AAA starter Tshirt type bras-my Mum got me them when I was 12-still have no boobs at 36! M&S did them and bra shops.

Hulababy · 29/09/2010 20:50

M&S do cotton crop tops, some of which have quite a low cut to them, making them look more bra like than crop vest.

Or go to M&S and but their trainer type bra.

When I was 10 in my last year at primary school we had the same thing. I was completely flat chested but all the other girls had bras - most of them were flatchested too but one of the girls had boobs so...!

I asked my mum if I could have a bra (I still remember the embarrassment!) She took me to the shop and we bought a 28AA - it was completely flat with little stretchy cups in case they grew! Makes me smile thinking about it!

I would say just go with it, it won't do any harm and i'm sure marks and sparks will do 'starter bras' as yesterday suggested. you could make it into a bit of a special mum and daughter day and go for a coffee/lunch afterwards?

scary how fast they grow! (children i mean, not... oh never mind Blush)

Goodness thanks, so many replies so quickly! Yes I thought it would look a bit strange to be wearing a bra with absolutely no boobs! M & S sounds like a good bet, or maybe some copped tops with a bit of a shape.
Sounds like we need a trip to the shops!

Thanks herbie and skippy but she's wanting more of a bra (bless her). Have had a look at the M & S website and they have a couple of soft ones with lots of good reviews so thats prob where we'll head. Thank you so much everyone! x

M&S are very good. You can get matching pants for some as well - feels v grown up for them Grin

ihearthuckabees · 29/09/2010 21:25

I remember having what donteatthat had - a bra structure but with no actual cups, just stretchy bits of fabric. My mum bought me it when i was about 13 (still had NO boobs) and I was so embarassed!

Quenelle · 30/09/2010 16:37

I remember my mum buying me a batwing sleeve top (it was the 80s!) that was see-through enough to see I wasn't wearing a bra IYSWIM. I was too flat-chested for a bra, but didn't want my friends to see I was wearing a vest. I wish she'd have taken me out to buy a AAA bra but she couldn't understand why I said I needed one. So I never wore the top.

Early/pre-teens are tough aren't they? :(

FoJo · 30/09/2010 21:07

ahh, thats so sad quenelle. Yes it can be pretty tough. I remember seeing some of my daughters friends developing little boobs way back in year three and feeling a bit sorry for them, you dont necessarily want to be first but you dont want to be last either!
