I like it

coffeefestival · 04/07/2010 12:09

I think Felicity is a really nice name. Much prefer it to Matilda or Arabella.

Having said that, you might want to think about potential nicknames for a Felicity. I don't like Flick or Fliss, but Liss is OK.

Maisiethemorningsidecat · 04/07/2010 12:13

I love Felicity - actually think it sounds stronger than Arabella.

LetThereBeRock · 04/07/2010 12:15

Felicity is lovely. I agree that it's a stronger name than Arabella.

aJumpedUpPantryBoy · 04/07/2010 12:26

Felicity is beautiful - I think it is a strong name.
I know an adult Felicity and it doesn't seem too flowery for her at all

Also, how lovely to have a name that means happiness

almostinvisiblewoman · 04/07/2010 12:30

pantryboy the name certainly suits her she 's a very happy girl just worried its not adult enough but obviously my fears appear to be unfounded .everyone else in rl has loved it.

Sorry, but I disagree with you .

There are some names that I think are great on children, but struggle to see as a serious 'grown up name (like Poppy).

There are some names I see as great grown up names, but struggle to see them on little children (like William - just seems too grown up for a baby).

Felicity is one of those names that I think sounds great on a grown up, but seems a bit too adult on a baby.

So I really wouldn't worry that she'll grow out of it!

5DollarShake · 04/07/2010 13:10

Matilda, but especially Arabella - stronger than Felicity??

Sorry - no way!

Felicity is a very strong name to me - and agree with Helokitty - it's definitely much more an adult's name than a child's. I'm so surprised you think it's a flowery name - it really, really isn't in my head.

ValiumSingleton · 04/07/2010 14:37

I don't like it because it's hard to shorten. I don't like Fel, Liss, or Flick. Felicity in its entirety is better than Arabella, but not Bella.

I'd rank them like this

Bella
Felicity
Arabella
Flick
Fliss
Fel

ValiumSingleton · 04/07/2010 14:37

I meant to put Liss in between Felicity and Arabella

Igglybuff · 04/07/2010 14:39

What about Felicia? You pronounce the Felici the same as you do in Felicity - just end in an "ah" instead of t.

coffeefestival · 04/07/2010 14:43

Other names which sound a bit similar.... Alicia, Alyssa, Alice, Lucy, Melissa.

almostinvisiblewoman · 05/07/2010 22:03

valium one of my issues with it has been the lack of nn i like and i also prefer bella but the fact that it seems very popular and is a nn for so many names really put me off.
coffee loved alice but dh had a cat by that name so we couldnt use it
hellokitty i really worried it was like poppy or honey a little girls name but obviously i'm very wrong
think we may stick with felicity nn tilly and/or bella .
although dd2 13 has decided that she's farty felicity which hasn't helped my uncertainty on the subject

Almost - Felicity was actually on our shortlist, It is a name I love btw, but we eventually rejected it because I couldn't find a shortened version I liked. I do however like Tilly as a nn.

Personally, I think you should stick with Felicity. Its a fab name

CristinaTheAstonishing · 06/07/2010 16:12

Lovely name. I only know one Felicity (adult).

diddl · 07/07/2010 08:46

I think it´s a lovely name.
Why are people on here so obsessed with shortenings?

We have given names we like & do not shorten-they´ll probably get a nn at school completely unrelated to their given name anyway!

Chasney · 07/07/2010 14:02

i love the name Felicity. it's really pretty and Fliss is nice to shorten it too

Helokitty · 07/07/2010 15:59

"Why are people on here so obsessed with shortenings? We have given names we like & do not shorten-they´ll probably get a nn at school completely unrelated to their given name anyway!"

Diddl - the reason for us, is that whilst you control the child's name for the first 5 years of their lives (if you are lucky), but once they gat past 5 or so, the child will decide their nicknames for the other 95 years of their life.

So, if you really like Charlotte say, but hate the nickname Charlie - then it is a bit naive to choose the name Charlotte, as you may end up having to call your child Charlie through gritted teeth for the rest of your life (as my mother does for me ).

Now, I know people can use school nicknames, but these tend to be names that are used just by their friends - most shortenings that people expect everyone to use (like Becky, Liz etc) tend to come from the real name - so imho, its a bit silly to choose a name like Rebecca, if you really hate Becky - because there is quite a strong statistical likelihood that you might have to end up using it!

diddl · 07/07/2010 17:43

Well we intend always to call our children by the names we gave them unless they specifically ask otherwise.

SE13Mummy · 07/07/2010 19:58

We nearly called DD1 Felicity (would probably have encouraged Fizzy as a nn if anything) but DH thought she looked more like a Harriet. I think it's a great name.

migola · 07/07/2010 20:24

I only know one and she goes by Licy (pronounced Lissie) which I think is nice

Kathleen123 · 08/07/2010 14:50

Its a beautiful name. I like it shortened to Fifi.

Kathleen123 · 08/07/2010 14:51

What about Verity

dexifehatz · 04/08/2010 00:09

My 16mnth is called Felicity Faith. We call her Fliss or Flissy and it really suits her.My dad calls her Filly which is a generation thing I think?! I hate the nn Flick...sounds odd.

mathanxiety · 04/08/2010 04:56

I know one who goes by Tee.
