Hi There

Just wondering what people think of the name Cherry?

Its likely that the little one with be a lil ginger so wanted something to reflect that (liked Rosie but been put off)

Me and my DP like it but whats your first thoughts?

How about Cherie? You could use Cherry as a nn.

Cherry not awful, but not to my personal taste.

my primary school PE teacher was called Cherry. she smoked 40-a-day and sounded like it, and looked like (perhaps was) a bizarre 1970's transvestite. And for that reason, i'm not a fan! But were that not the case, i think i'd quite like it.

At the risk of sounding mean, I think that hormones have addled your brain. Name for a pet, yes. Child, not so much.

MisSalLaneous · 22/06/2010 19:21

No, I really don't think you should. Lovely for a nn though!

CuppaTeaJanice · 22/06/2010 19:21

I used to love this name in the 1980s. It seemed really glamorous, along with the similar names - Cheryl, Shereen, Cherie etc.

However, speaking as a person with red hair, I'd have hated to have a 'red' name.

Ha ha. A few days before I was due I became convinced about Cherry as a middle name. Was absolutely sure it was to be the name. It isn't. But it's a lovely word.

lilllysa · 22/06/2010 19:34

LOL Thought this might be the case! Damn my silly brain! Was so easy with DD1 had a name picked out forever!!

This is a name for a hamster not a baby.....

missingpieces · 22/06/2010 20:02

We have a Cherith, we do sometimes call her Cherry, which I think is nice within the family. When she goes to school etc she will be introduced as Cherith. Might end up as Cherry anyway!

AbFabT · 22/06/2010 20:06

I have a friend called Cherry. I think it's lovely, and she carries it off beautifully.

I used to work with a Cherry. Boy was she a pisshead

I remember her buying coloured candles once & being very, very pissed off when they all burned with the same colour flame

She wasn't the sharpest knife in the drawer.

EricNorthmansmistress · 22/06/2010 20:22

Pregnancy has addled your brain. You don't know she'll be ginger and if she is she may not thank you for a red themed name. and Cherry sounds like a stripper name.

I've got a very posh and proper aunt called Cherry. I've always quite liked the name

boodleboot · 22/06/2010 20:39

i like it.

Pfishofplight · 22/06/2010 20:48

Urgh no. Where I'm from people use cherry as a word for virginity.

LovelyDear · 22/06/2010 21:52

VERY good point pfish.

AnnaBafana · 22/06/2010 21:54

PMSL at 'regional accents' comment

Cherry isn't good.

ILoveDolly · 22/06/2010 21:55

I love Cherry. I would have considered it for my dd if my surname were not what it is.

seashore · 22/06/2010 21:56

It's just horrible. Sorry.
