Tuesday for a DD?

CocoKev · 16/06/2010 22:44

I'm 19w with DC1 and possibly starting to feel some of the hormonal wobbles that I've avoided so far.
We don't know the sex yet- but my DH and I think that if we have a DD we would love to call her Tuesday Elizabeth. If we dare!
I keep picturing this little girl and think of her as being happy, fun and outgoing. I have an unusual name myself, and have always loved it.
I've asked a few friends and they've been positive about it, but they're probably just being kind. So I've steeled myself for your honest opinions- is this totally crazy?

Does Tuesday 'mean' fun adn outgoing or something? If to, Beware that you may end up giving the child an ironic name - especially if not born on a Tuesday. I know a Joy who was the furthest thing from joyful I have EVER met.

KERALA1 · 17/06/2010 19:43

I dont want to sound patronising but think you might be having one of those 20 week hormonal moments . I genuinely had all sorts of shockers on the table at this stage with DC1

SixtyFootDoll · 17/06/2010 19:50

Tuesday is a rubbish day anyway.
Call her Friday for fun, then whenever she walks into the room everyone can say 'Thank f**k its Friday!!'

RockinSockBunnies · 17/06/2010 19:54

Whilst Tuesday is quite pretty, I fear that she'll get a lot of crude comments along the lines of 'C U Next Tuesday' - which is pretty offensive!

charley24 · 17/06/2010 20:09

Love it ! Think it sounds fabulous ! And I also love January as a name too x

pranma · 17/06/2010 20:45

Isnt there a film star called Tuesday Weld?

pranma · 17/06/2010 20:45

Isn,t there a film star called Tuesday Weld?

AbFabT · 17/06/2010 20:46

LOL @ SixtyFootDoll re TFIF.

Shaz10 · 17/06/2010 20:48

Fat Tuesday - Mardi Gras!

dizzydixies · 17/06/2010 22:15

you know what, go for it! I wanted to use Ever for one of our DD's and DH said no. I still have a hankering for it

muminthemiddle · 17/06/2010 22:54

I really like it-go for it.

mathanxiety · 17/06/2010 23:01

Aren't the days of the week named after gods or something anyway? Tyr (Tuesday) Woden (Wednesday), Thor (Thursday), Frigga - sp? (Friday) and then Monday, Sunday and Saturday were Roman perhaps?

I think I would avoid all the same. There are plenty of other unusual names out there.

And I think Fat Tuesday would be very tempting for some playground wag. @Shaz10

LadyThompson · 17/06/2010 23:11

Aw, don't listen to the stick-in-the-muds! It's cool. And there WAS an actress called Tuesday Weld, and very glam she was too.

LaserWidow · 19/06/2010 21:04

Freja was Friday, mathanxiety. (Knew a horse called that)

Freya I mean, not mathanxiety

I remember in the Bunty comic years ago there was a story about a girl called Tuesday who became keen on gymnastics. I thought at the time it was very unusual, even more than my fluffin' awful one.

whiteflame · 20/06/2010 05:23

I used to work with a girl called Friday, and when she answered the phone to a customer, the conversation would go something like this:

"Hello, Friday speaking"

"Oh" "I thought it was Thursday/I know it's Friday"

Perhaps days of the week are more commonly used as names now and this wouldn't be such an issue, but it was EVERY time, the poor girl!!

mathanxiety · 20/06/2010 06:27

LaserWidow

dinopiratesruleok · 20/06/2010 11:25

I quite like it but I would only dare if she was born on a tuesday myself. Nicole Kidman managed to get away with Sunday who was born on another day (monday I think) the 'what day was she born thing would wear off after a few months (?!)

Cortina · 21/06/2010 11:56

Whiteflame I wonder if we know the same person? Friday that answered the phone etc can't be too many!

That was the thing about poor Friday everyone remembered her name and always remembered her because of it, it can be a bad thing to be too unique.

MmeLindt · 21/06/2010 12:03

LOL at "Friday speaking". and TGIF.

I don't like Tuesday as a name. Elisabeth is lovely, and I like Thalia.

Cortina · 21/06/2010 12:05

Poor Friday also got 'thank crunchie it's Friday' 'Freaky Friday' etc and always, always, inevitably a conversation about why she was called that when meeting new people.

I quite like Tuesday having said all that. .

Honeywitch · 21/06/2010 13:39

I know a Friday and a September, and they both like their names as adults.

However, Nicole Kidman's daughter, Sunday Rose, I thought was a lovely name until I told my partner about it and he said: "Sunday Roast?!!"

LifeOfKate · 21/06/2010 19:41

Mathanxiety - Monday, Saturday and Sunday are roman and after the moon, saturn and the sun respectively Also agree with Laserwidow that Friday is for Freja (Thor's wife apparently!)

Back to the topic, I like Tuesday! However, it is also on my love but couldn't use list, I'm just not sure I'd ever be that brave. DH is desperate to call a child Wednesday, but DC was a boy, so we didn't have that dilemma in the end I say go for it, but I do like to lead people astray, so don't listen to me

FranSanDisco · 21/06/2010 19:48

My dd was born on a Tuesay in October, an Autumn month Guess what we called her? Sophie

cory · 22/06/2010 07:32

I would always be wary of those names that depend on the child developing a certain type of personality. What if she doesn't want to? I know it is difficult to imagine it at this stage of the pregnancy, but there is a real person coming out of there one day, and the way she is or thinks or behaves will have very little to do with your dreams and everything to do with her.

anonymousbird · 22/06/2010 07:47

She would have to live with that ridiculous name for the rest of her life, she is not a novelty, nor should her name be for your own amusement.

Get real, sorry.
