Names for "Pig" in other languages for a girl?

Are there any affectionate or classy names for a girl which mean 'Pig' that people can think of?

I have a thread here which is my boy's name thread, so it might be nice to stick with my muppet theme. Miss Piggy could always just be a nickname.

I'm not totally decided on this for a girl's name, but I think it's worth investigating. Miss Piggy did not have the same character qualities that I admire in Kermit.

The latin is Porcus, apparently. Which is a bit likme Dorcas, which is getting more popular, so it could work- but would Porcusina be prettier? There must be other languages which might yield some gems though, if anyone has heard of any?

controlfreakery · 15/06/2010 23:27

i've always liked oinky for a girl.... and swinella is cute (nn ella).

copperjar · 15/06/2010 23:28

Pancetta is very pretty- great idea. And Salami is a bit like Salome, so that could work. Salome is good actually- that could be a useful nod to the whole idea, thanks!

If you tire of Kermit you could always try Hamilton.

Wordsonascreen · 15/06/2010 23:34

Or Hamlet

treacletart · 15/06/2010 23:44

Havalina (quite pretty in fact, but please God this is a joke right?)

copperjar · 15/06/2010 23:45

Well, I'm off to bed now- but thankyou all so much, some great ideas for me to ponder on, cheers

Either you are trolling, or you need your head read! Kermit? A girl called pig? In any language that's pretty awful! Think of the stick the poor little kids will get when they get to school. If you call your kid kermit, people are going to be sniggering behind his back for his entire life!
Yes kermit and miss piggy are lovely. But they are MUPPETS FFS!

Chandra · 16/06/2010 01:03

I think you need to get a proper name or a proper pig.

Ninive · 16/06/2010 02:26

Well, as gris is pig in Norwegian, you could go with Griselda...

Jamiki · 16/06/2010 02:39

Hocki

TanteRose · 16/06/2010 02:51

well, pig in Japanese is "buta" (boo-ta)

so she could be "Boota-ful"!

or the word "ton" is used for pig/pork (as in the pork dish, ton-katsu), so I guess "Toni" would work...

piggy

ProfessorLaytonIsMyLoveSlave · 16/06/2010 02:57

Banza
Mukota
Moura
Kele

are all breeds of domestic pig...

thumbwitch · 16/06/2010 03:06

Sow-Ellen
Parma
Svinya (pig in Russian) - or Svinyushka for little pig
Sooee (common call for pigs in fields)
Piglina

It's an interesting concept - but if you have a 3rd DC please don't go for Gonzo.

mathanxiety · 16/06/2010 04:20

Portia! Very classy.

Irish for pig is 'muc', pronounced 'muck'. Don't know if that's useful...

mumofeightplusfour · 16/06/2010 10:00

peppa

SJisontheway · 16/06/2010 10:34

Muc is beautiful, but i'm not sure if you could pull it off unless you have some Irish heritage
